Great news.
Sam Taimani confirmed at the Poly bowl that he will be starting his Husky career at DT for sure. He also believes he won't be redshirting this fall, but will see what the coaches ultimately decide this summer.

We need another DT and he's a huge body with a lot of talent. When we signed him I wasn't sure if he was a DT or G because I think one rating agency had him at G and another at DT.

We're pretty thin inside, so that's good news. Hopefully he succeeds there. If he doesn't, they can always move him back to G.

Huskies have really produced some great interior defenders the past few years. Danny Shelton, Elijah Qualls, Vita Vea and Greg Gaines have all been amazing players for us.

I know we bitch and moan when these "kids" don't get it done on the field, but that QB from WSU really put things in prospective yesterday, "there just kids still"...

Man, absolutely tragic. I thought Hilinski had more talent than Falk (who I think should be a solid NFL player). I really hope it wasn't football that put him over the edge. My heart really does go out to his friends, family, teammates and school. He had an amazing future ahead of him, perhaps this may lead to schools offering more mental health counseling.

The older I get, the sadder it makes me to hear about kids doing stuff like this. I'm not even 30 yet and I feel like my life has hardly started. He had so much ahead of him. I can't imagine the pain that he was suffering to lead himself to an action like that. Really does break my heart.

I'm sure there will be with football. Something set him off to get to that point, it's a really bad situation all around.

Hard to make guesses with something like this.

Could be relationship issues. Girls have driven boys to doing pretty dumb things.

Legal or financial issues no one knows about that he worried would come out.

I would guess more with the pressures of school and grades on top of football, than the pressure of football and being a starting QB itself, but both could contribute.

So many variables we just don't know and likely won't ever get a full answer on. At some point I hope we get at least an overview of what his letter gave as a cause, but who knows if the family will disclose that or not.

Very Cool.
24/7 has unleashed its final 2018 recruit rankings before LOI.
Brandon Kaho has moved from 32 to 21 which has officially given him a 5-star rating and the #1 ILB in the nation. He is now the highest rated recruit of the Petersen era.
The other UW recruits part of the top 247 have also moved higher.
Spiker, Gordon, Yankoff, Lowe, da Sirmons, and Osbourne have all got a bump up. Yankoff saw the biggest jump going from 119th to 76th.

This class is a beast. And we could be adding up to 3 more by LOI if any of the last of the uncommitted we're still persuing say WOOF.

Does Eason's potential transfer impact that at all? I mean he's ineligible to play next year, but does he still tie up a scholarship in his first year? I can never find a straight answer to that question.

Pretty awesome.

This has to be the best recruiting class that we've had in decades. I have a strong feeling that many in this class will get early playing time.

I believe he would count against the 85 because he'll be receiving a full financial aid deal like any of the other scholarship players during 2018.

He wont count against the tSEC rule, aka the 25 max for recruits signed per class since hes a transfer (wouldnt matter since Huskies are way below that for the 2018 class), but he counts towards the 85 cause he'll still be receiving the scholarship financial deal for classes and books right out of the gate.

Highlights of interview -
Really wouldn't have came back to college for any other program.
Fired up to work with Browning, and plans to ask less of him in terms of protecting him and not asking too much.
Also means a focus on the run game. (bout fucking time).
Talked about Gaskin, but described what he thinks needs to be done for Ahmed and it sounds like his role will increase a LOT. 12-18 plays a game he said.
High opinions of the last 3 receiver classes and the overall depth/talent at that position.
Wants to be a head coach, ultimate goal.

Really excited. Gotta reserve my enthusiasm until I see him call a game though. Nick Holt was probably the most fired up coordinator I've ever seen in my life, but we all know how that worked out.

For sure, but it's encouraging to hear him talk about protecting Jake and getting that running game going. Never felt like we had balance most of the year. Gaskin got his yards, but the games we played our worst it seemed like they abandoned the run early and lacked creativity to give play makers the ball in space. Just to hear him talk about that gives hope he's a step up from Smith.

A lot is on the players as well. We know Jake's limitations and not sure what progress Hamdan can make with any of them. They will have a crew of receivers none of which have carried a major role before, albeit talented ones on paper. No big power backs for short yardage situations against bigger body defenses.

But Jake is a senior and we know if he gets on the same page as any solid receiver he can get a ball to them and the tandem of Gaskin and Ahmed is going to be really fun to watch.

Hamdan can recruit. We saw that. Not that they had any problems under Smith as many recruit to Petersen overall and the staff as a whole, but this guy fires up high school players like crazy. And now has NFL experience on his resume.

Featured Fanpost: A look at Skinny Eason

Saw this fan post on UW Dawg Pound about Jacob Eason. Really insightful article, highly recommend.

Let's see if the kid :

A) actually wants to come here and commits
B) learns from his mistakes down south and that "gunslinger" mentality takes a turn for the positive ( NO int's) and can grasp this playbook...

A few thoughts:

-Kind of surprised regarding Justin Herbert. He sees to have a lot of hype around him.

-Would not put Chico on first or second team at all. He had a good season with Pettis and Ross flanking him, but he's more of a slot guy. I don't expect him to put up the numbers that would warrant a place here. He really doesn't have the physicality to be anything more than a slot guy and his route running is still average at best.

-I'd put Hunter Bryant in at either first or second team. Before he went down, PFF had him rated as the best true freshman in the country. I think there's a strong chance he might be the Huskies leading receiver in 2018.

We got a 2019 class WOOF from Petersen a few minutes ago.
