One can only take so much time seasoning posting in "Down on the Farm" threads with minor league vet Stokes
Well, we haven't signed that big free agent poster yet but tzill seems undecided about his retirement. Guys with options can get lost in the numbers' game . . .

While on the topic of options, the Giants were actually able to preserve Slaters' option from last year.

Looks like we need that information put in the Marco Polo inspired thread.

How did the Giants' preserve Slater's option?

So the Giants added Slater to the 40-man roster and 25-man roster on June 2nd, he got hurt and was on the major league DL on July 8th, went on a rehab assignment in early September, then was activated from the DL. Technically didn't spend any time in the minors after he was added to the active roster, preserving his option year.

He is allowed 20 days, regardless.

But good point on him still having the extra option.

I'm starting to think Roberto Gomez is Nick Lowery in disguise.

I wonder if he'll stick around this time and what the Giants are sending to the Pirates for him.
I actually doubt that it was a trade. The Giants had first dibs on him on waivers. The only way they would have had to trade for him would have been if another team was willing Tom trade for him. And if that were the case, I doubt they’re would have traded for him themselves seeing as they were on the verge of signing Jackson.

I just noticed that the Giants report it was a waiver claim again. I guess the Giants wanted to try the pass through waivers again in hopes of keeping him this time. There is an art to this kind of thing.
