Really awful. More than just a suspected suicide. They apparently found a shotgun or rifle next to him and a suicide note. Cause of death was gun wound to the head. :(

Ain't that the truth. We had a player on my high school team off himself during my sophomore year. He was a great player, was very popular with both teachers and fellow students, got good grades and came from a pretty well off family.

But the worst suffering you can go through is from shit rattling around in your own head.

I myself went through some shit when I came back from deployment. Went two years before I reached out. At any point in there I could have seen myself eating the business end of a gun.

Seriously, to anyone out there thinking about hurting themselves, it is a passing feeling. It feels like it will be like this forever, but it won't. Don't do something stupid. There is help out there.

Well said.

Was very sad to read about it this morning. Today we are all Cougars. Prayers to his family.

I agree with @Beaker - one of my best friends killed himself a couple of years ago. Instead of facing some of his personal demons that he lived with, he just shot himself on the side of the road with his own mom present as she was taking him to get help. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him and his family. Please get help if you face similar issues and before you do anything, think of the pain you will cause others from selfishly ending your own life.

Well said. Depression is real and torture for those that have it. Peace to this young man, his family, team and friends.

I had a close friend die from suicide last summer. She was hanging out with friends at a festival on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday night she went home and connected a tube to a helium tank and used it to kill herself. (Similar to running a tube from a car's exhaust pipe to the interior and dying of carbon monoxide poisoning.)

Battling demons in your own head sucks.

Makes you want to check in with your own kids even if you believe their lives are the most perfect world you try to create for them.....
The first time I can remember my dad telling me he loved me was when I was 25 and right after he heard about Tony Dungy’s son committing suicide. It felt weird because we don’t show emotions in our family. Every time I talked to him after that we said it to each other.

Had similar thing happen with a childhood friend. he was married to a beautiful woman two daughters (6 and 10 yr) and they were supposed to go up north to visit her family and last min he said he had some work to do and would drive up the next day. He hung himself that night. Tragic.
One of my godsons goes to Upland HS where Tyler went. It must be a sad day there today.

My dad and I were just like you and your dad, but with my boys (just now teens) I make damn sure I tell them I love them and proud of them.

He was only 21, right? I never understood the cowardly act of suicide. So sad.
yeah, but they say signs of CTE can show up very early on in someone's playing career.

My son just turned 21. He's lived with me since he was 13. From that day to this, I "check in with him" periodically just to see how he's doing.

He's about as smart and well adjusted a kid as a parent could ever want. But you just never know. So, I check in with him, (especially when I read something like this) and he is good enough to tolerate it. lol

Depression is no joke. Just goes to show that everybody has skeletons/demons of some shape or size. You never know what inner hell someone my be fighting thru.

well, yeah...most people who don't commit suicide (pretty much the majority of humanity) aren't going to understand it, by its very nature.
