I like the hire, thought Norton should have gotten the DC when Quinn left for Atlanta.

What's old is new again.

Knows the system, Pete knows what he's getting, pretty safe IMO. Still think it's weird that Richard is getting the axe though....
I heard somewhere that Richard is being considered as a candidate for a head coach position in the NFL.

The thing with Richard was that I felt that the players didnt really respond/respect him because it was really his first time being in charge like that and being pretty young, I think the players viewed him more of another player than an actual coach. Ken Norton is an older that was there when these guys were drafted and really mentored them especially bobby wagner which looks like he will soon be the face of the defense. I really do think there will be less sideline pushing and shoving with teammates with him there in charge of the defense.

Something that I hadn't factored into all of this is the sideline stuff. Could one of the reasons why both Bevell and Richard were let go be the lack of control that the coordinators were able to keep on the players in their respective units? I mean, besides all the injuries the team has had, one of the things that has stood out for, really, the past couple of years now has been the sniping between the players among themselves and with the coaches. We've already established that Carroll lets his players be themselves, but what we haven't seen much of until recently is the coaches' inability to keep a lot of that sniping in-house. How many times had we seen players yelling at each other and/or the coaches on the sidelines or taking shots at each other through the media before 2016?

Any ire the players had shown up to that point was typically aimed at the media, not each other or the coaches. That hasn't been the case as much in the past two years. For lack of a better term, the team has seen a decrease in "institutional control" and I can't help but wonder if the players had started losing respect for the coordinators, leading to those coaches being unable to confine any issue the players had with each other or them to the locker room.

If it was just Bevell looking for a new job, it could rightfully be attributed to a lack of production on that side of the ball, but with Richard being let go without the same track record of poor performance on his side of the ball it's hard to believe that that would be the reason for his dismissal, especially when you take into account the number of injuries that his unit had to compensate for. It leads me to believe that there had to be another, less obvious reason for it.

Don't love it, but like many have said, it's Pete's defense. If this means Pete will be more hands on that's probbaly a good thing for the defense.

Though likely a bad thing for Seattle's game management. Carroll's already shaky there, putting more on his plate won't make him better.
