It appears to me that the only path that leads to us being competitive by 2020 involves both Ragans and Crouse developing into an ace and a true #2 pitcher. That path will also have to include us hitting on at least 3 position players in that time frame as well. Good luck with all of that.

That's 5 of a 25 man roster the odds are that maybe 1 or 2 at most.

No doubt a lot more would have to happen too, but that would be the difficult part.

We would have holdovers as well like LeClerc, Bush, Kela, Claudio, Gallo, Mazara and maybe Elvis. It would also require developing some other pitching to fill out the bottom of the rotation and pen. Lastly it would require signing a mediocre pitcher for a #3 starter and probably a free agent second baseman and DH.

Why would you want to jettison young players like Kela, Bush and Diekman in order to build for the future? That makes little to no sense.

But seriously, I heard some talking-head saying the other day he thought ownership of all our pro sports teams feel little to no pressure to put a true quality product on the field b/c we'll show up anyway.

If ticket sales drop, beer and peanuts go up.

We may also find our self stuck with Choo if we don't unload him soon and Beltre won't buy much with his age and heath issues. Not really certain what can happen or be expected.

Will we have Choo through 2020 for 62 million on a backloaded contract. It could be worse like Vernon Davis.
To me big issue is blocking guys who JD to develop. Like said earlier, let him play it out to th break and if on fire the we can unload unless of course we surprise every one on this board.

Define "win" Jon. If it is, be in contention for the second wild card slot sometime in July, then yes you can "win". That is, if nothing major goes wrong which it almost always does to most teams in baseball.
