man, that is such an underwhelming return for the Pirates. Crick was a promising prospect, but he struggled to throw strikes and finally had success in 2017... as a reliever. He might have closer potential, but what good is a closer if you don't have many 9th inning leads to blow?
Crick hurts to lose, but he isn’t Earth-shaking. I have never been a fan of Reynolds.

I was really scared about the rumors of this trade, bu the actual deal is very paletable.

Well we can get a star off that international bonus money :P

Today was the last day of the 'special' signing period for the Braves prospects that got voided by the commish. Maybe we used that to grab one? Okay i'm grasping at straws.

This late market is weird, esp with 3 big spending teams trying to reset luxury tax, we might be able to scoop up some 1yr steals during ST, I guess time will tell.

I have no idea why we want major league ready talent in these deals, its kind of weird. It is kind of obvious we could have gotten more 'bang for the buck' if we didnt insist on poaching mlb ready players.

MLB.com 2017 Prospect Watch They have Reynolds as our new number 4, 1 spot ahead of Moran, but our top is weak after Meadows and Glasnow shit the bed last season.

I may take the over on an 85 OU bet.

Posey
Belt
Panik
Crawford
Longoria
McCutchen

Bumgarner
Cueto
Samardzija

Melancon
Smith
Dyson

Alll above average players in key spots, with a few stars sprinkled in. Not a powerhouse, and not a team that will last more than a year or so moving forward, but for 2018, I like what I see.
I think it's safe to say the Giants will be relevant this year. That's going to be a nutcutter of a division.

I see too many holes in that batting order. If Marte comes out like he did last year, they'd as well just ship him out.

Reynolds was considered our #5, but I struggled to include him in our top 10. Granted, I think I was bullest on him in the Giants webosphere.

Maybe that other former Pirate outfielder can show Cutch where to shop.

This, on top of getting killed by scouts and people that know, that they got a bad return on Cole

Not a brutal move for thank Giants. This is a "at least they're trying" move.

The move for longo was worse.

KATOH Projects Pittsburgh’s Return for Andrew McCutchen | FanGraphs Baseball

Reynolds is interesting, but so far I see a guy with meh power/mediocre K/BB rates and it remains to be seen how he does outside the Cal League (which is a hitter friendly league). Regardless, neither of them are top prospects. I don't see how you can justify that return for a guy like McCutchen.

Just something interesting to think about when looking at these trades:

How the Pirates Are Forced to Value Players | FanGraphs Baseball

also, the felipe rivero move has worked out fantastically for Pitt.

But it does seem they collected a few too many RPs.

I love adding money to the intnl signing bonus. You can pick your prospects. Which is always nice.

Maybe they'll turn some of this depth into a longer term asset like StL did wih Ozuna.

My big prob with Reynolds that he is a classic tweener. His bat should play well enough if he stays in center, but it is still not clear if he will stay there or shift to left (IIRC, he doesn’t have the arm for right). But as a left fielder, his bat absolutely does NOT play.

I see his ceiling as a dime-a-dozen MLB OFer.

But you have to remember the Cutch is a rental coming off two substandard seasons and playing himself out of center. As a corner OFer, he isn’t the same stud.

Who’s “he”?

And before you answer, put the drink down.
"He" is the dude I was responding to when you butted in. Go back and look at the post and you'll see who "he" is.

Do some research. Who was “he”?
Good lord; you don't even recognize your own posts?. You, you are the dumbass who left Pence off your list of above average players on the Giants. Maybe you should put down the drink.

Longoria and McCutchin ain't Stanton but they should be able to help some.
I'd expect 30 homers between them with about 130 RBI should they both stay healthy. The defense should improve a little as well.
