Why does everybody keep saying Disney when they mean ESPN? Yeah I know Disney owns ESPN. Pepsi Cola owns Pizza Hut. Hey let's go to Pepsi and get a pizza. Or let's go to Pepsi and get a Taco. They own Taco Bell also. Sounds ridiculous.

Y'all try to make fun of ESPN. Think where you would be on Saturday's without them?

Fox, CBS, FS1, NBC, or a novel idea of attending the game. ESPN blows, but this merger is 99% to do with Star Wars and the 1% is to add to their movie library most notably bringing all the Marvel characters together.

We're talking about a corporate transaction, in which one of the parties involved is Disney. ESPN is an asset which they own.

I think Disney not wanting FS1 is telling.

I can understand them not seeking Fox News, they would want to change that and that
would cost them more money. So Fox News ain't going anywhere.

And the national sports stuff. They could gain a monopoly and they don't want anything
to do with it.

If I had to guess...I wouldn't be surprised to see in 6 to 12 months them selling ESPN.

ESPN cut their own throat changing their programming to highlight a Liberal view. They lost
half their customers. Disney is way liberal. Well, they can't go back and remove the liberal
view without it casting a bad light on them. Their only recourse would be to dump ESPN.

The big question would be...who do they dump it to?

FS1?
Since when does ESPN have a "liberal view"?

Not sure how, or if the Disney and Fox merger would affect either pro or collegiate sports. I believe that the merger has a very strong emphasis towards movie rights, specifically Fox’s holding rights for Marvel MCU characters. Thats where the BIG money lies with Disney making the move on Fox. Disney may be satisfied with the current landscape of how college football is currently, maybe if things goes south in collegiate sports, then they may consider making moves within the future, but now, there’s really no need to change the landscape.

Take off your tin foil hat. Disney doesn't want FS1 because it has bombed. ESPN is honestly in trouble because they pay way too much for college football, don't be shocked when the next round of tv contracts is up the money train isn't nearly as fat as it has been.

True, but ESPN does not blow.

Yeah that was my mistake. Should have done my homework.
No problem sir.

Just pointing out that in this case, it's not ESPN bashing. It's Disney that's buying the Fox assets. But if they have various different sports properties in their portfolio, then they will eventually combine them or have them work together in some way, out of financial logic.

No, I understand you. It was my error. I haven't been reading enough news lately.

Sorry, but this is mostly bullshit.

ESPN lost subscribers because people are cutting the cord. Basically all cable channels have a bloated number of "subscribers" because of bundled package deals. Your cable company has 3 or 4 packages you can buy with different numbers of channels. You don't pick and choose, people who never watched 10 minutes of ESPN in their life were paying for it.

All this political shit is nothing more than people wanting to assign their wishful thinking and agenda as the reason because it makes them feel better, not because it's based in reality.

1. They didn't go after FS1 & 2 because it's doubtful it would pass the anti-trust smell test and would delay the deal.
2. Disney most likely bundles ESPN with the Fox regional channels they just picked up and spins them off as a separate company and issues the stock to Disney shareholders.

At that point ESPN no longer has Disney's deep pockets and it gets interesting. Disney would keep ESPN but the main sticking point is ESPN has agreements in place where they are limited in streaming their content. Streaming is obliviously what this deal is ALL about.

Wrong you are forgetting about the stake in Hulu and Asian streaming services. This is about consolidating existing properties but the library and streaming is a huge piece. They paid 1 billion for Star Wars and they aren't going to pay 52 billion for additional distribution rights and the X-Men. That would be insane.

Examples?
Bruce Jenner winning a courage ESPY.
Their support of the NFL national anthem protest.
How they sensor any employee that has a public conservative view.
Their coverage of “hate speech”.

The list is endless really.

If they acquire Fox's regional sports networks or their interest in collegiate sports networks, that will change the landscape. It doesn't matter that films are the main strategic reason for the deal. They're not just going to leave things alone if there are opportunities to make various sports assets work together. Trust me on this.
