The 11-2 Steelers got a little surprise Monday night...a Patriot loss.

NE has set such a standard, that a road loss in the DIV is a big deal. In any event...the 10-3 Patriots come into Heinz Field for a nationally televised contest. I'm sure CBS will send the "A" team of Nantz and Romo to work this one. NE is now one game behind the Steelers for the top seed in the AFC. By my count this will be the 5th consecutive national TV game for the Steelers.

I watched maybe half of the MIA game the other night. More than anything it shows that NE is human...maybe they were peaking ahead themselves. I know the record after a loss...2 losses in a row, etc. I definitely expect the Pats to score more than 20 pts.

Injuries...I'm sure everyone knows now that Shazier has been put in IR. Juju (suspension) is likely to get his roster spot. Matakevich (shoulder) listed as questionable at this point. Gilbert (supsension) has to sit one more game. Haden (leg) is practicing this week...if they like what they see I can see him getting some snaps in this game, but they might not start him.

Outlook...The Pats have dominated the Steelers in the Tomlin era. Last year in the AFCCG was probably the most disappointed I've been with a Steeler loss in a long time. The game plan just never had a winning vibe. Almost like they were playing to keep it close and they couldn't even do that.

New season, new team. Hopefully a different result. The DEF has been the in the spotlight and man vs zone has been a big topic, but only once in the last 5 meetings has the OFC scored more than 25 pts. I think Haley is finally grasping that BAL and NE are good at game planning for what they know you like to do. I fully expect them to do the same thing they did last year...bracket A.Brown, and man up on the other WRs.

I like the matchup this week...Steeler OFC vs Pats DEF...I expect Haley to keep going into the closet and keeping NE off balance with targets they're not expecting and eventually Brown/Bell will make an impact on the game. FWIW...The Pats have not faced This is the game I'd love to see Bell/Conner go for 200+ on the ground and Brady get only 4 or 5 possessions, but I have a feeling this going to be a back and forth game for a while, and PIT winning probably a one possession game.

28-24 Steelers...the road to the SuperBowl goes thru Pittsburgh!

What say you?

Fucking hell. My fucking Sister in Law just had a baby yesterday (on my oldest son's birthday too). And the only time we can get out to see her is Sunday.

And this is a 4:30 game, so I'm sure I'll be there for it.

Doubt she'll want to have the TV on at her house at all, let alone this game.

I might risk pissing off my wife with the old one earphone in trick.

SB... that's fucked up man. Patriots week? Serious implications on the post-season? Women have babies all the time. THIS... this is special. Tell your sister next week works better for you.

The game... honestly, I'm probably going to piss people off with this but until the Steelers show they actually want to beat the Patriots (I'm looking at you, coaches) I can't pick them.

What should be: Steelers 31 Patriots 23
What Tomlin will insist on: Steelers 24 Patriots 48

She even went and had her membrane stripped early. It's like she's trying to piss me off.

I can't pick them either. They have to prove they aren't gonna repeat the same decade of mistakes with the Patriots. For now, I'm going into this game expecting to see an ass beating.

For my sis...I would go, but she would understand I would have my earphones on during the game.

For my sis -n-law...I probably wouldn't even make the trip!

Obviously I don't care much for your prediction, but I ain't mad at 'cha. I don't blame you to be honest...I said this season I was not going to predict any loses so I won't start now. The way I'm looking this...The Steelers are going to have to beat this team twice to reach the SB...I find that fitting...for Tomlin to have a chance at #7, he probably has to take out his nemesis not once but twice...lol

I don't even like my SIL, at all. It's not about her, but my wife. But the only way I can think I get out of this, is if I start acting sick before this weekend, and have to stay home so I don't infect the baby.

That could be my play.

Offense... In the last 4 games we have seen Ben throwing for 40-45+ times. I don't see Haley backing off in this game either, but maybe now is the time? We know AB will get the bracket forcing Ben to check down. This will be a bad game to force throws to AB so I hope to see them get more people involved. The Pats D isn't a scary one, but its well-coached & capable of handling its business & shutting down your primary weapon. So expect them to focus on AB. Bell will probably get more touches because of that. But Haley needs to find a way to get JuJu, Martavis, etc involved. Overall I think this game will boil down to discipline & execution. Penalties can hurt them big. They need to bring their A game!

Defense... The secondary & the linebackers are going to have to step it up this week. I know they are banged up, but they need someone back there to rise to the occasion. If Butler rolls out that 2-high zone D then expect trouble. Gronkowski had a week of rest to prep for this game so I think NE will want a big impact from him. Davis & Mitchell haven't looked very good lately so its easy to worry about what Gronk will do to them. There are lots of matchups to exploit for NE's offense and I believe they'll take full advantage. Matakevich (if he plays), Spence, Fort, V-Will, & Gay aren't going to hold up in coverage. I sure hope Butler has some tricks up his sleeve or somehow the Pats continue their recent trend of poor play. Will this game be the one where Tomlin unleashes Harrison? This game is ripe for the occasion. Pats O-line is banged up and needs to be exposed. If Butler can play more man-coverage forcing Brady to hold the ball a few seconds longer then the D-line will do damage.

Expecting this game to go back & forth for a while with both offenses scoring fairly routinely. If the Steelers come out with a shitty plan & shitty execution then this could snowball fast. Patriots are the best team in the NFL at exploiting your weaknesses. They were just beat up by the Dolphins so I think we'll see a much more motivated group this week. Especially with all of the playoff implications at hand. This is the biggest game of the season, so expect fireworks. I hope to see the PIT coaching staff play very aggressive in this one.

Mind the juju... :hope:

I agree with everything except the score prediction.

Then again, that prediction could come true, if Butler tries to beat the Pats with zone coverage.

The last time we beat them was about 8 yrs ago, before I came to the Hoop...I was still on the Fox Sports site, along with @MISKO, @Psych-Ward, @Cali Steel, @whyoh, @netsteeler, and other faithful fans of the Black-n-Gold. There was a really annoying Pats fan named Joanee who used to troll our page, and I remember rubbing her nose in it when we finally beat them.........

...with man coverage! I still remember that game. Our boys kept Brady's receivers from running their routes as quickly as they could against zone coverage. And this made it possible to get to Brady...that was the key.

I only hope that Butler and Tomlin remember what they did to our secondary last year.

Hey...any word on whether Haden will play?

It's all about that juju North! Been going strong with it almost all season!

Haden... They are still being very cautious with him. Limited in practice yesterday & today. Today was his first day in pads, but read that he looked good. Wasn't favoring his leg at all. Butler was quoted today saying "how Haden feels tomorrow (Friday) will determine if he plays against the Patriots". Looks like they are waiting to see how his leg responds to increased activity. He worked with strength/rehab trainers before practice & likely will again afterwards tonight.

Let me give you the skinny here......

This will be a game of well coaches players, with discipline and results. Against a half assed coached team who look from within themselves to get results.
In order for us to pull this game out, the coaching needs to be stellar from Tomlin, Butler, and Haley. The most pressure is on Butler for his comments last year saying he's figured out how to beat them, and I believe he has.....first quarter of last year's AFC championship game. But if he allows Tomlin to take over his D, and they go zone, we'll be fucked again. As for Haley, he just needs to fuck off. This offence can run itself. Tomlin really needs to put a stop to unnecessary celebrations and the taunting Shit, we know from the past, Piss of Brady, he'll make you pay.

Or just scrap this game and wait till we meet them in the playoffs, because you know whatever we do against them this weekend, they will have an answer for it the next time we meet. Pressure is on Steelers coaches.

Does anyone know where belicheat was this week??? Someone said he was at home depot looking for a running back....every year he finds some nobody to walk all over us.....I figure since this year was the year these no name running backs have killed us, that's BB's game plan.

No doubt. Pressure looms large on the coaching staff. We said it after last AFCCG, and I still believe it to be somewhat true until proven otherwise... But this coaching staff simply doesn't possess the prowess to defeat the Patriots. As you essentially stated, the New England coaches have the ability to turn street bums into stars. Whereas Tomlin & Co need all stars, and even then they struggle to live up to expectations. However we've seen flashes of brilliance from all the coaches, most of the time at separate points in time, but at least we know they are CAPABLE of it.

But its time to nut up or shut up.

Tomlin... The Pats will forever be the "monkey on Tomlin's back" so long as he continues to fail to rise to the occasion. If he can defeat the Pats this week, and in the postseason I think he will have taken a gigantic step towards closing the book on that cliffnote to his résumé.

Butler... Much to do was made over the defensive failure last AFCCG, and for good reason. The defense was nonexistent in the most crucial game of the season. Tomlin made very specific comments about "nobody's jobs are secure/safe" in regards to his coaching staff. And I believe with all the heat on Butler that he was more speaking about him than Haley. But still...

Haley... Haley failed miserably to adjust/adapt his gameplan once Le'Veon went down in the 1st/2nd series of the game last season. We can talk shmantics about WRs dropping balls, which indeed was true, but in reality Haley failed to get his offense in a rhythm. Matt Patricia had Haley's nuts in a vise grip and it was obvious.

All 3 coaches have something to prove this week. Win or lose, they need to prove they are capable of competing with the class of the AFC or else this team will never amount to anything under them. Part of me wouldn't mind a loss so long as they can beat them in the postseason, but I need to see them compete in a close game for me to ever believe they can do it.

Bottom line is Butler needs to do what he can and has done this far.

Haley needs to stop being so predictable and put the hammer down early and often.

Tomlin needs to be a Fuckin head coach for once. Keep his Fuckin nose out of Butler's business and quit being a cheerleader. Man up and own your Fuckin team.

This all hinges on Tomlin, if he plays buddy we're fucked. If he plays head coach, we have a shot.

In all honesty guys.......the team that makes the least mistakes wins.

This will be the first time in three years that Ben, LeVon and Antonio are all healthy to face the Patriots. The Pats can't concentrate on one aspect of the offense or they could pay the price of ignoring the other two. My guess is that the patriots will put as much pressure on Big Ben as early possible and try to keep him from getting comfortable and getting off long passes to AB. Brady rarely, if ever has two bad games in arow so I expect him to be a bit better than he was against the Dolphins.

I think the Steelers biggest advantage is that they don't have to deal with Julian Edelman. Without his security blanket, Brady has had to be more diverse in his passing. There is the on eunknown for both the Steelers and the Patriots ........................... Kenny Britt. Will he be a star or an Ochocinco????

No doubt. You see who they put as the officiating crew? Corrente. They chose the crew with the highest penalty numbers in the league. So yes, penalties are going to play a factor.

Both offenses will be able to move the ball. Brady will likely play his best game of the season. He always rises to the occasion in big games like these. Steelers D will need to play aggressive and expose that O-line or else Brady will have just enough time to do damage. Obviously the biggest question is whether we'll see Man or Zone coverage. Steelers have been playing more zone lately which scares me. If Joe Haden plays then I expect more man coverage. If its Coty Sensabaugh again then I expect some zone, but I pray that its not all the time.
