He is playing much better than expected and the players seem to like him.

Which is great but at some point they have to see what they have in Garoppolo.

It was good to get a win, and be done with any chance at an 0-fer......but again...that was a Giants team that flat out quit. Especially defensively. It's all about Jimmy G.

Can't agree with that. I'm hopeful but we have not seen nearly enough of him to know if he is any good. Every QB plays well in the Patriots system because they are so prepared for everything. Success with the Patriots does not necessarily equate to success with a team like the 49ers.
Even Beathard has started twice as many games as Garappolo has.

I agree with you. I like the kid...he got thrown into a pretty dire situation, got the shit kicked out of him but he hung in there. Made some obvious rookie mistake throws and some great veteran throws and then it all came together for him. That said, I do want to see what Garappolo has but I also wand CJ to continue to grow. I kind of get the feeling that they might us Garappolo in the draft to get more picks and then draft our needs with top picks...wish we had about 10 1st round picks hahaa. Got off topic a little there. I think you have to stick with CJ unless there is a major difference in practice the next few weeks that warrants a change.

Which is why I said 'it's all about Jimmy G.' The only way you're gonna 'see enough' of him is if he plays....and given that Shanahan wanted him originally a few years ago, and they traded for him.....it's time. I do like what I've seen from Beathard. His teammates obviously respect him for his toughness, and I have to admit I'd like to see him more against practically anybody else except for the Giants.

Success can come if JG is truly a good player coupled with an advanced playcaller/designer like Shanahan. Success for SF now would be to have an offense that can move the ball and put points on the board, regardless what the defense does or end results. All signs point to the fact that the powers in SF believe Garoppolo is the franchise QB, and that is the biggest hole to fill.

Given we still have a need at QB, perhaps the Garoppolo trade also indicates that nobody in this years draft excites Shanahan/Lynch. All things considered, I would much rather find out just what we have in JG than to dangle him for picks/unknowns.

Yea I get what you're saying and see it from both sides of the fence. My only thing is that I'd hate to stunt CJ's growth as he's shown some promise and keeps getting better. That kid is tough as hell boy he got smashed so many times in his starts. The other side of the coin is that if we do dangle Garoppolo we'll never know what could have been. Like I said before, we don't see them in practice so it's gotta come from what Lynch and Shanny see.

We won't get much for JG at that point. Since he is a free agent it will limit what teams will give up in exchange for him. He would have to sign an extension before a trade which I doubt he would do. I also think that would not sit well in NE and make the org look bad if we tried trading him for more picks.

Time will only tell brother. I still have PTSD from the Elvis Gerbac era we endured...yucky. I'd love to be completely wrong in my assumptions though.

Ya, Its a tough situation. Beathard is a frickin gamer. But they spent some capital to get Garappolo and I think they have to see what he has. He's a free agent at the end of the year and I don't think they spent a 2nd rounder just to see him walk.
Despite what Shanahn says, I think he plans to start Garappolo in the next game after the bye. Seattle would be a very tough first test so he might sit him one more but I bet he starts him.
Your theory about getting picks for him is interesting though.

Oh, I see what you meant. Ya, I agree, they have to play him to see if he is really the guy they want.

If we could get picks for him, new england could have gotten multiple picks but there were no takers. I am sure it is because of his

If Beathard never turns out to be anything special, I still respect how he went about it. Just as Shanahan's first comments about why he wanted him...'tough as shit.' That's pretty evident as he keeps his head up downfield even when the pass rush is on top of him (still holds the ball far, far too long) but he'll take an ass kicking and get back up. Everybody around him loves that.

Having said that...the one reason I'd like to see him more is that I'd like to see him do something similar again against another team. The Giants defensively - Janoris Jenkins obviously - flat out quit. Having Staley return is obviously a positive, but it can't make that much of a difference that the Giants pass rush gets 0 sacks vs the Cardinals pass rush that looked like the '85 Bears.

Another scenario is that maybe ShanaLynch 'know' enough about Garoppolo in that he's the guy they want long term, and they want to get as much Beathard exposure around the league to possibly offer him to another team.

In the end, just like everybody else, I'd like to see a long term solution at QB, and SF hasn't had one in nearly 2 decades.

I'm not sure they could know that with so little game film of him available. The dude has played two games in 3 or 4 years. they need more than that. I'll also say that what they have seen of him is from New England, the most prepared team in any sport. I think even I could be successful as their QB, so it does not surprise me that Garappolo was. I'm hopeful but far from convinced.

I think a big mistake people make is that people fall back on the 'New England' aspect. Matt Cassell had one good year for them...and had perhaps an even better year with KC, but the reality is that he's nothing. People love to point that out but the fact is, Cassell was a 7th rounder. Garoppolo was a 2nd rounder and highly regarded around the league when the Pats selected him. Again....it looks as if Shanahan was very high on him but Cleveland went with Manziel.

The Pats kept JG as long as they could as they felt he would be the successor...but they could hold him no longer...so they 'know' about him as well. We will only truly know in full when JG gets on the field and proves his worth. It was worth the 2nd rounder to find out, and it's why I want to see him ASAP.

I have a feeling we'll find out what we have pretty soon. I heard some ridiculous analysis from Dennis Brown on CSN Bay Area where he said the 49ers wanted to ease him in in Seattle in some situations where he can be successful, and then he goes on to say "like 3rd and long situations" and I'm thing, WTF? Third and long almost never succeeds so even the so called pundits don't know what to expect.

A post talked about the 49ers trading Garapolo for multiple picks. No team is going to give us multiple picks for a QB that is going to be a FA. If that was the case, NE would have received multiple picks for him but they didnt get that
