MLB hasn't had a first-time World Series winner since the 2002 Angels. Longest streak without a 1st-time winner since 1936-1954 between the Tigers and Dodgers first wins. 2nd longest streak all time.

2002 Angels
2001 Diamondbacks
1997 Marlins
1992 Blue Jays
1985 Royals
1980 Phillies
1969 Mets
1966 Orioles
1955 Dodgers
1935 Tigers
1926 Cardinals
1924 Senators (Twins)
1923 Yankees
1920 Indians
1919 Reds
1914 Braves
1910 Athletics
1909 Pirates
1907 Cubs
1906 White Sox
1905 Giants
1903 Americans (Red Sox)

Mathematically this has to happen though as there are fewer and fewer potential first time winners...

Look at that list, they go from 1 yr gaps to 5-20 pretty fast

Yes, but currently there are 8 franchises that have not won the World Series (26.7% of teams) and that hasn't changed for 14 straight seasons. So still a statistical anomaly.

In the previous 34 seasons, that number hovered between 30-38% and the longest stretch was 6 seasons, occurred twice. And one of those occurrences came immediately after adding 4 teams in 1969.

The odds of a 73.3% chance occurring 14 straight times, is less than 1.5%

Yes I know. But overall I think it evens out enough over 14 seasons.

I'd agree with you to an extent, but still, putting a franchise like the Brewers up against perennial powerhouses/contenders is no where near like flipping a coin.

I think that 1.5% figure is WAY too low.

Maybe. But then you have to take into account a team like the Nationals would have a greater than 3.3% chance of winning the World Series going into any given season. If you got +1500 odds that one of those two teams would win it all, I'd say that was a good bet to make.

The team with homefield advantage hasn't lost back to back World Series since 1978/1979.

I'm cool with both teams winning, but I'll be pulling for the Dodgers. I just want to see Kershaw and Seager get rings, though Houston winning their first WS would be great.

I'm rooting for Rich Hill and Dave Roberts.

I'm happy i get to just enjoy this series.

whoever wins it's a great story.

But Houston....they could really use this. IT would be very 2013 Red Sox-esque

I posted it in the other thread. I'm leaning Dodgers in 6.
Ok

If you or other Dodger fans have access to the LA Times, there is a 29 page WS Preview pullout with several full page pics in today's paper. I've never seen anything like it.

The Astros have to find a way to win either game one or two...
