From the link:

"If you watch NASCAR frequently, you’re probably not fond of the fact that five of the 10 championship-deciding races are on 1.5-mile oval tracks. And if that’s the case, you were probably thrilled when Charlotte Motor Speedway announced it would run a road-oval layout for its championship race in 2018.

Say it together now: “Roval! Ro-val! Ro-val!”

The roval race will be NASCAR’s first road course in the now-named “playoffs” since they began about 14 years ago, meaning that it’s long overdue. With the current system, the two road courses NASCAR goes to each year don’t have much influence on the outcome of the championship due to their placement on the schedule—and to be a champion, you should have to prove yourself on every type of track the series has.

After more than a decade, NASCAR finally gave into that notion. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sept. 30, 2018 will be one with many turns—18, to be exact—using the speedway’s oval and interior road course.

It’s probably the best thing the sanctioning body has ever done, too, because the Goodyear tire test taking place at the track this week is mesmerizing to watch"

I have long been a proponent of more roads course racing in NASCAR's top series and more specifically at least two in the playoffs. This is a step in the right direction in my opinion.

What do you boys think?

I think it's a good move. To be the champion, you should be able to excel on all the types of tracks that they go to on the circuit.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. The infield at CMS is ridiculously narrow, especially for these cars. I expect it to be nothing but a slow, boring, follow the leader section. Having seen the layout, it looks like the only decent passing zone with be the chicane on the backstretch and drivers dive bombing coming off the oval going into turn one. They'd be much better off adding a true road course whether it be Road America, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta or VIR. The last two probably aren't likely due to the fact that they're too close to other NASCAR tracks (Atlanta and Martinsville). Hell, I'd just take a race away from Texas (a boring cookie cutter) and give it to Circuit of the Americas.

Yep, Kurt Busch was one of the drivers that tested for Goodyear last week and he said the track was really slow.

I agree that better road course venues would give us better racing, but hopefully this is a start.

I doubt they would ever pass up up going to Sonoma to race at Laguna Seca, but I would love to see that.

The Kansas race is such a complete waste of time, I just now decided to check-in and discover who actually won that awful race.

Cup cars going down The Corkscrew would be impossible and hilarious. We need to see it just once
