The best part of Maximum Overdrive was the soundtrack! Nice AC/DC going on.

I really hated Dreamcatcher most out of all of the King movies. My description (as discussed on these boards previously) is to take every Stephen King plot and character ever done, blend them together into an incomprehensible mess, and serve raw. Horrible movie based on one of King's laziest efforts, probably written at the height of his cocaine addiction.

I'm down with the soundtrack comment, and agree with the mess that the movie rendition of Dreamcatcher was. Can't agree with your view on the book, however; I thought it was pretty well-written.

Then again, I absolutely loved both the book and movie versions of Needful Things, so what do I know? :pound::pound::pound:

Don't Kill It (2016) - Dolph Lundgren I'm a demon killer that's going to walk in here like a cowboy and tell you something vaguely with no context and know you'll try and lock me up mr. law enforcement man, and i'll let you do it. but you'll be back... terrible. that being said, his accent was pretty good (I mean better than what he was working with). Still amazes me he's an actual genius

This is just a brilliant and funny commentary. Well done, sir! :thumb::thumb::pound::pound::thumb::thumb:

The Collector (The Butterfly Collector) 1965 - Was in a horror list I saw, so I watched it. Can't argue with it's inclusion, guy stalks a girl and kidnaps her hoping she'll fall for him. That's the first 10 minutes, so i don't think i'm giving the storyline away.

Loved both the book and the movie. Creepy stuff.

Hey, I thought Needful Things was a great book and under rated movie. But Dreamcatcher, not so much.

Remember that Dreamcatcher was about a group of childhood friends (It, Stand By Me, several others) who get psychic powers from their retarded friend. When they grow up they get together in a frozen cabin where aliens start exploding out of their assholes. Then an elite military unit somehow has the assignment to nuke them and the alien spaceship in an airstrike. But one alien escapes and is going to infect the water supply with his larval ass explosions so the remaining friends rush to stop him led by their retarded friend who is somehow a different race of alien. All of this mess somehow incorporates Native American mythology into it.

They lost me at ass exploding alien larva and full on retard hero. The rest of the convoluted mess just made it worse.

that was one of the last ones i watched. you make me feel like i should watch a movie. give it a day and then get drunk to critique it. i usually go a bit hard, i guess i don't bring the funny enough for the others? i ran through like a dozen there? I really could have done a better review of the black room after the fact. that's the first one that comes to my mind. there's only so much of us horror folks, that being said, i hope i gave a siskel thumbs up or down for those that i saw. that being said, you eventually get to a point where there's no other horror movies to watch.

While I wasn't commenting on your comment on my review, I didn't know how to take such a positive review.

I totally agree about Needful Things on all counts; loved the book, loved the movie. We've discussed this before.

I was still full in with the Dreamcatcher ass-exploding alien; after all, we are talking Stephen King horror here. That said, yeah, he lost me with the retarded hero; I can't deny that.

And yes, I also agree that it was a retread...sigh.

Gotta stick to my guns and say it was better than Cell, tho. Both the book and the movie.

Funny thing, I also watched 1408 last night, or at least part of it. Both Cusack and Jackson in it. Worlds apart from Cell.

What made Maximum Overdrive great was it didn't try to be something it wasn't.

It was campy. It stayed campy from the ACDC soundtrack all the way to the villain truck with the Green Goblin face.

About 20 years ago, they took the short story Maximum Overdrive was based on and tried to make a serious movie from it called Trucks.

That. That was wormslime excrement.

That was horrible.

The Needful Things book was amazing!

The movie was okay. There was just a lot missing from the movie. But, there was way too much detail in the book to try and cover in a 2 hour movie.

Rupture (2016)

The Skinny:
Renee is a single mom with a shitty family; she is not fond of spiders; bad guys wanna find out why, and figure that torturing her is the best way to do it.

My Take: Jeezus, this was an incomprehensible mess that wastes a really good cast. In the sequel, she will be Earth's future Madonna; I pray there will never be a sequel.

Always the way with a King book....

One of the best film adaptations, if not the best, of a King book has got to be Misery.

Just a fantastic movie.

Contracted(2013)
273552_056.jpg

The Skinny: Nice girl gets drugged and raped by an asshole who also happens to be the carrier of a zombie-making STD.

My Take: Once I got past that first part, I must say that this was one grisly, disturbing, creepy-ass movie. This was a worthy addition to the zombie genre, and not just for the virus twist. I really enjoyed the ending, kind of a tribute to the Romero films with maybe a little 28 Days Later thrown in. I understand a sequel was released in 2015. Gonna have to check it out.

Watched it and I agree with your take. It is a pretty good movie that builds well. A good 7.5+ in my book. It would be a great companion piece to Bite which I reviewed awhile back (started very slow but finished very good.)

So I checked out the sequel: Contracted Phase 2.

Picks up right where the first one leaves off. Follows the now infected wannabe boyfriend from the first movie. A solid horror movie but a step below the first one. The character development that made the first one so good was a bit off and the plot wasn't as strong (Seriously, just like Bite and the first Contracted, why the f cant these people get to a hospital before everything goes completely to shit?!?). This was more of a straightforward zombie type movie so it didn't feel as fresh as the first.

I'll go 6-6.5 range.

There is a rumor of Contracted Phase 3. I guess that would be a full on z-pocalypse, but nothing firm on it yet.
