Which SEC AD is going to make a big play for Syracuse Head Coach Dino Babers by the end of the 2017 season.

1) Tennessee - Butch Jones is toast. Since becoming the HC, Jones is 14-19 in SEC play, 1-4 against Florida and 2-2 versus Georgia and Vanderbilt. Tennessee fell to Florida on the last play of the game , was dominated 41-0 by Georgia in Week 5. And could only muster 9 in a home loss to SC.

2) Missouri - Barry Odom. O - 4 in Conference play isn't going to cut it. Prior to taking over as the program’s head coach, Odom was considered for his work as a defensive coordinator at Missouri and at Memphis. However, the Tigers finished last season ranked 12th in the SEC in points allowed and rank last so far in 2017.

3) - Florida - Jim McElwain. 3 - 2 / 3 - 3 overall seems good enough. But Losing at home to LSU and A&M has folks talking. After GA puts a monster beatdown on the Gators this coming weekend, it will all come into focus. He's peaked and everyone see's McElwain isn't UF's future.

4) - Arkansas - Bret Bielima. 0 - 3 / 2 - 4 is as poor as it gets with the talent they have. Bielima should be ranked 3rd on this list but he has a $15.4 Million dollar buy out which may save him .... this year.

All sec coaches on a hot seat scare me because of the money they have to offer and how tight with the purse strings SU is.

But of that list above, only the UF job seems better to me than the SU job. UT, Miz and Arkansas are not great destinations. But UF is part of that Florida triangle from hell and the Gator fans would love em some Babers.

Honestly Tennessee is one of those jobs where one can win. It is in a division that is definitely down with the exception of Georgia. It is near a few recruiting hotbeds with Va, MD, NC, SC and such nearby. The alumni are annoyingly insane and will shell out to win. It's just that the ADs have made piss poor hires the past decade.

I see TN, UF and even Arkansas as teams capable of landing a solid coach. However if you go to Arkansas, prepare to lose with the SEC West being a tough division, year in and year out.

I will also say that I knew Dino was a decent coach who can produce a solid offense as their game against VT last year showed that. The thing holding him back are the penalties it seems and the things that would drive a coach like Saban insane. Everytime they are up on team like LSU or Clemson it almost seems like they try to shoot themselves in the foot.

Great points on UT.

For the reaosn you mentioned, I would be pretty surprised if Babers went to the Razorbacks.

I'm going with none of them for $1000, Alex

You also said SU wouldn't knock off a preseason top 20 this year. Now FSU, UM and UofL all look like potential wins. After SU wins two of those three, the OU job may be an option on the above list....except who wants a job out there?

Babers drew a lot of attention at Bowling Green. And he said when he took the job at SU that midway through the second season, everyone would see major improvements on the scoreboard and the W / L column.

The guy is making a name for himself.

And he hasn't had good defenses. I'm surprised at SU's D this year so I don't know if so far has been a fluke or has he figured out something there too.

For sure he has a working system for offense. Right now I'm blowing off the penalties as kids trying to do too much at this point in their evolution. SU has very little depth and Babers is using a bunch of smoke and mirrors to hide flaws. I'm hoping penalties will go away as Babers gets more years under his belt at one location.

I think Missouri and Tennessee make the most sense out of that list just based on the way Babers likes to coach. Florida and most definitely Arkansas would require some time to get players into that system. Similar to when Rich Rod went to Michigan. So I think he could find quicker success at Missouri and Tennessee because of that.

I just don't see what Miz offers students or a coach that all other SEC schools offer in spades.

His buyout actually may only be $5.9 million...according to this

Bielema buyout under $15 million

Bielema’s actual buyout is determined by a formula included within the language of his original deal, which was made effective Dec. 4, 2012, and signed the next August.

It uses the $15.4 million figure as a numerator and divides that by the total number of months (97) in the full term of his contract. That figure of $158,762.88, called the “monthly value of the total guaranty payment,” would then be multiplied by the remaining number of months on the contract, which runs through Dec. 31, 2020.

Based on that equation, Arkansas would owe Bielema about $5.874 million to terminate his contract after the season concludes Nov. 24, plus a prorated amount for any partial months of employment.

I would definitely agree here. Florida is definitely not set up to toss the ball around, and hasn't been since Urban left. Arkansas might be better there, as I don't think Bielema's guys would necessarily hindrances to transition, I just think the talent level might not be there.

I think Syracuse actually punched well above their weight class when they signed Babers. There were a lot of better jobs open at the time for which he could have been in the running.

I'd expect he gets poached soon. FL and TN make decent sense. Not sure if I'd even call Mizzou an upgrade over Cuse at this point.

It didn't take him long at all at Syracuse to get "system players."

An athletic QB and big WRs are his "system guys," and there are plenty of those in Florida.

Agreed, but going from smash mouth football like Beilema does, is a complete 180 to what Babers likes to do. Missouri and Tennessee already have some of those principles in place. Arkansas does not.

Also, he was pretty lucky that Dungey was in the program. Severely underrated coming out of high school. Can't believe the pac 12 schools let him out of the area.

Yeah I don't see Arkansas as his next home.

It would be an interesting fit. Much closer to what they had with Petrino, who had some success there. It would just take some time IMO.

This is why some of our fans want Jeff Brohm.

We don't really have an identity on offense right now but last year our QB led the SEC in passing. We haven't been as smash mouth as people seem to think. Our OL sucks too much for that lol. If the system requires an athletic QB though then yeah it would take a while to adjust.
