Some things that bothered me.

Terrible performance.
It looked like nobody had worked on a game plan all week.
It looked like nobody did much practicing all week.
It seemed like everyone took the week off players and coaches both.

A couple of things.
Stop throwing the home run balls and going for the quick kill shots when your up on bad teams. It didn't particularly work with Tulane or Baylor.

Why do the onsides kick???? At the time, nobody knew it was going to be a close game. For me, it's a little classless against an opponent like Baylor when there wasn't any real need for it. Yeah, maybe it's sending a signal to teams down the road and all, but if you think you will grind your opponent into the ground it just seems kind of like a little bitch move to me. Maybe I'm in the minority.

Aren't we suppose to have one of the best O-lines in the country. Where did those guys go because they weren't playing in the first 3 quarters.

Lincolns first year as OC, he made some really dumb play calls along the way. Last year, he got a lot better. Quick learner.

Tulane and Baylor, learn quick my friend. You have the horsepower to run the ball. Do it more.

I gotta say that right before we hit that 99 yard touchdown run, the exact thought of that crossed my mind. Boom, it happened. Good job on that.

I think that Mayfield hasn't thrown an interception yet this year, which is absolutely astonishing.

Oh, and if Lincoln has any balls at all, he fires Mike Stoops today and gets on down the road and puts that past him. It's the perfect time. We all knew a game like Baylor was going to happen. Nobody would think badly or say a word if you did. JUST DO IT. Put on your Big Boy Pants and show him the door.

Scoring 49 points on a terrible Baylor team shouldn't mean you are in a dog fight the last minute of the game.

Good job pulling it out.

We were against good WR's in this game....don't think that Briles left the cupboard bare. Knowing that we're facing better than average WR's with size you have two options or a mixture of the two at times.

1. Lots of line of scrimmage bump on the WRs.
2. Unique pass rush/blitz packages.

We did neither. 90% of the time. The cover safety has to be involved at the top of the box against Baylor style defenses since the SS has to cover WR in 4 WR sets.

Their first touchdown was 4-wide and we're giving them 8-10 yards cushion. All WR's go downfield and the outside WR (Motley's cover) runs a simple post, running 80% speed off of the line telegraphing that there will be a rub on the topside. Motley simply gives up thinking the S is going to cover. Lazy. He should have covered scrimmage side of the receiver close, pushing away from LOS with an eye on the qb.

Second touchdown Thomas had 8 yards of cushion and still got beat by Mims. Obo was held on the pass rush with no call. Funny the kickoff after the TD we were called on a hold that was ticky-tack at best.

To put it short, again we see Mike taking a "bend don't break" approach...hoping for turnovers. It should only take one game of getting schooled for him to make the change though. All we can hope is that Lincoln and Ruffin can help mold it into what it needs to be. They only had 60 yards rushing, so knowing they were pass first and second we should have done much better in getting pressure on their QB.

other notes:
Bobby Evans looked lost at times...
Baker has sciatica, I can tell by the way he walks at times...
I wish Smallwood would see the field more...
S. Parker lost a lot of mobility after his injury...
Mayfield missed quite a few reads and looks, it seems the more adrenaline he gets in these "lesser quality" opponents games the poorer decisions he makes. He needs to get WAY more cerebral and WAY less emotional in conference play. His play in this game reminded me of the Houston and Ohio State games last year.

Next.

Should've pounded them with 50 runs and 20 passes. Me thinks in trying to get Mayfield his heisman stats they get cute and start Dickin around to much.

Did you miss the part where they were stuffing the run and run blitzing nearly every play in the first half?

OK, did anyone notice that the Iowa State game unfolded the same way the Baylor game did.???

In control of the game. Up by a good amount. Then, no patience at all. Going for the long ball, the kill shot and not getting it. Then Baylor/Iowa State get some momentum. Then all of a sudden, we go into this Mike Stoops keep everything in front of us, I'm scared to death to do anything defense and BOOM, the game changes entirely.

We're talking about Iowa State and Baylor here. Good teams, sure, maybe, but nothing that should test us.
After watching some replays of the Iowa State game, it appears that we had receivers running open but Mayfield didn't see them, didn't want to throw to them, looking for the long ball. So I'm not sure if it's a Lincoln Riley problem or a Baker Mayfield problem. Maybe both.

If you don't have the patience to march down the field, keep moving the ball, run time off the clock, and go in and score, then we have problems.

It's great that Lincoln had the team ready for Ohio State, but since then, it's slowly gone down hill.
I hope it's just a learning curve but the Baylor and Iowa State games looked to have the same exact problems.

Yeah....a lot of our shit up there applies again.

The only thing that can salvage his job now is a CFP appearance.

...and maybe it's time for Baker to get more "cramps", more often.

Lincoln needs to make a tough decision and realize if he doesn't he's committing career suicide.

today's RRSO presser was uneventful.

he took blame. didn't throw anyone under the bus, except for maybe Kenneth Murray.

asked if any changes to staff or staff responsibilities and he said no.

cross your fingers ladies.

Obviously he wasn't going to come out and say, "Mike's ass is fired." Whatever plan is being enacted will be done so quietly behind the scenes. Hopefully starting with relieving Mike of his play calling duties for the remainder of the season.

Much better effort against Texas.
Thought the offensive play calling was just fine/nothing terrible comes to mind except when the game was close at the end of the 4th and we weren't able to close out the game with the ball in our hands.

The defense looked great really. Texas made some plays, but that's going to happen.

If we take away our stupid penalties, the ticky tacky penalties they called on us, and the no call penalties that Texas committed, this game could have easily been 55-10, and probably should have been.

If we can go up to KSU and not have a "Texas Hangover" then I think we are making progress.
The one thing I am still concerned about is this common thread of getting up by 2 or 3 touchdowns and letting the other team back in the game. Sometimes it happens, but it's become somewhat of a concerning pattern. If Lincoln is progressing, then we will see this come to an end.

Good Job Lincoln Riley and a great effort by the team.
