I saw that you posted this on your boards, but I had to comment.

HOLY CRAP!!

I am not exactly sure how many of the Power 5 are with one or the other, I don't care to look it up, but I will say more than 70% of the Power 5 are with them. I know the article says 70% of Division I, but just about every Power 5 team I have ever looked at over the last ten years has either been IMG or Learfield.

I wonder what the end game here is? it would definitely be a monopoly, IMHO.

I only see one reason, merge them, fire the duplicate staff(that would be roughly 40% of the merger) and no longer outbid each other for deals. Massive cost savings for the merged company, shit deals for the colleges.

I am against this merger.

edit: we need a different emoji/smiley icon for "WOW, Shocked" so I gave you a like I like the poster, but I actually dislike the news. Strongly dislike the news.

If these two companies are allowed to merge, then I have no idea why the Sherman Antitrust Act would need to exist.

Exactly... how could this be an advantage to the schools? Is a small company like that under contract with UK ready to invest big time with current IMG/Learfield schools? If not, WVU will not have much choice but to accept the contract given... or go back to John Raese and ask him if he's interested. LOL!!

This is a lot bigger than just WVU news.

This is potentially landscape changing.

Who they gonna sell that to?

Well..that is a good point obviously...but at least they can setup potential subscription service to offset revenue loss or they will need to setup a team to sell commercial adds ..and take the remaining revenue streams like merchandising and bring it back in house again...I am just spit balling, but I think they can form a Plan A, B and C

Is Texas leaving? It would be interesting to see what they would do with the Longhorn Network should this happen or if they would go to the Big 10, SEC, or PAC 12.

Well...that is also a great point...they are losing money on the network so maybe if they read the tea leaves as they should they abandon the network for the good of the conference..and if that happens..the league maybe more attractive to teams that left the conference..I can't help thinking that Nebraska is ripe for a return to the Big 12..they are as out of place in the Big10 as Wv is in the Big12 and Mizzou is in the SEC..
