My mom took my brother to therapy today (Nick Easley's mom is my brother's therapist). She said that defender that defended Nick was a teammate of his at Iowa Western Community College and they were really good friends. That missed tackle was that former teammate. Nick told his mom that he went to talk to the defender after the game but the defender was too pissed that he didn't cover Nick very well, he wouldn't talk.

Essentially.... of the 10 suspended Gators, 2 mattered. As you guys already linked, it was the #1 WR and #1 RB.....the other 8 weren't even on the 2-deep.

The real standout stat from the game: Florida finished with only 11 total yards rushing for the day....that's beyond terrible.

Big Ten Week 1 power rankings: Depth shows in solid opening weekend

ESPN B1G Blogger's Power Rankings

1. Ohio State: The Buckeyes put up 49 points on Thursday night and still looked like they weren’t quite in gear. That speaks to their top-end talent – hello there, J.K. Dobbins – and explains why many folks see a playoff bid in this team’s future. The secondary needs to take a step forward this week with Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma coming to town.

2. Penn State: No rust removal necessary in Happy Valley. Saquon Barkley was electric and Trace McSorley was efficient in a blowout of Akron to start the year. The Nittany Lions' defense was equally dominant in giving up only 159 total yards – the second fewest allowed during James Franklin’s tenure.

3. Wisconsin: The receivers had a shaky start to the season and contributed to the 10-0 hole that the Badgers dug against Utah State in the first half. On the plus side, Troy Fumagalli, the Wisconsin running backs and a still-ball-hawking secondary made that hole look like little more than a divot very quickly in the second half.

4. Michigan: Beyond the back-to-back interceptions that Florida returned for touchdowns in the second quarter, Michigan dominated a Power 5 opponent. The fresh-faced defensive front allowed a grand total of 11 rushing yards and sacked the Gators six times. This won’t be a rebuilding year for the Wolverines.

5. Maryland: The most notable upset of the weekend came in Austin, where D.J. Durkin’s Terps ruined Tom Herman’s Texas-sized welcome party. Maryland still has plenty to prove and to improve, but two capable quarterbacks and a physical defensive performance provide reasons to be excited.

6. Iowa: The defense was up to the challenge of stopping Wyoming’s Josh Allen in his first game of the season. Led by 14 tackles from Josey Jewell and a couple of late interceptions, Iowa’s defense looked good enough to carry a heavy load. The offense avoided the kind of mistakes committed by most of the teams below them in this week’s rankings.

7. Northwestern: The Wildcats are off to a better start than a year ago, which is to say they won despite showing some flaws against Nevada on Saturday. Quarterback Clayton Thorson put up impressive numbers, but it wasn’t until his touchdown dive more than halfway through the fourth quarter that Northwestern could feel comfortable about avoiding an 0-1 start.

8. Nebraska: The Cornhuskers are another team that should feel lucky to start the year with a 1-0 record. They won, but giving up nearly 500 yards to Arkansas State while giving the state of Nebraska a free nail-trimming is cause for concern. The newly installed 3-4 defense will face a stiff test next week at Oregon.

9. Michigan State: A rocky start smoothed itself out for a Spartans team that has been looking for a reason to celebrate for almost a full year now. Brian Lewerke appeared to be the steadying presence Michigan State needs at quarterback. We’ll learn a lot more about the talent level in East Lansing next week when Western Michigan visits.

10. Indiana: The passing attack in Bloomington is reason enough to believe the Hoosiers will climb higher in these rankings as the year moves forward. The up-tempo pace remains despite Kevin Wilson’s departure, but as one of only three teams to lose this week, Indiana takes a slight dip.

11. Minnesota: There is work to be done in Minnesota despite starting off with a win against Buffalo. The Gophers’ linemen didn’t look as in control as one might expect on either side of the ball against a weaker opponent, and neither quarterback blew anyone’s hair back. A win, nonetheless, is still a win.

12. Purdue: Jeff Brohm’s debut lacked a fairy-tale ending but should give the Boilermakers plenty of reason to believe change is coming. Quarterback David Blough and his receivers kept pace with a Heisman winner for four quarters, and the Purdue defense made several big plays.

13. Rutgers: The cupboards are not yet stocked in New Jersey, but a handful of impactful transfers (starting with quarterback Kyle Bolin and running back Gus Edwards) helped the Scarlet Knights compete with a top-10 team this weekend. Washington was bigger, faster and stronger. Rutgers didn’t look out of place, which is a step in the right direction.

14. Illinois: Let's start with the positive: Mike Dudek and Mike Epstein are two good offensive weapons for the Illini. The negative: Illinois lost most statistical categories to Ball State, a middle-of-the-pack MAC team, and needed to block a last-second field goal to avoid overtime.

NW 5 seems high

I was actually more impressed by Purdue in a loss than I was by Marylands win. Boilers almost beat a team I know is a top 15-20 team by year's end. Maryland beat a team that could easily go 4-8.

I agree. Other than Illinois, there wasn't a bottom feeder B1G team that I wasn't impressed with. Purdue, Rutgers, Indiana, and Maryland exceeded my expectations. I wasn't sure what to expect from Michigan State, still don't. They had one bad season. Was it just quicksand for them last season and they are out now, or is that football team the same as last season.

The Maryland game is exhibit A in why it really does not benefit P5 teams ( who are not blue bloods ) to schedule P5 teams that are. In nearly every instance when a team the traditional I'll of Maryland beats a traditional power early in the year the discussion is almost solely based around how overrated the blue blood must have been. Credit is rarely given to the team who won. We all just assume the losing team blew it it was ranked far too high. Maryland may receive a few top 25 votes this week but that's it. Hardly a just reward for scheduling a game you're going to lose 8 times out of 10

Some teams will weasel their way into the top 25 to start the season no matter what year after year. Florida and Texas are good examples of this.

My B1G Power Rankings after Week 2

1. Michigan (2-0)- Last Week: 3 - I feel that Michigan has looked the most impressive the first two weeks. Florida is still a ranked opponent and Cincinnati is still a quality opponent. They also did great in both games. Michigan had over 400 yards of total offense and Cincinnati had 200 yards

2. Penn State (2-0) - Last Week: 1 - Scoreboard reads the Nittany Lions dominated. Looking at the stats, the Panthers had 10 more 1st downs, 40 more total yards, 23 more passing yards, and 7 more rushing yards. But what counts is what it shows on the scoreboard.

3. Ohio State (1-1, 1-1) - Last Week: 2 - The Sooners looked really good against the Buckeyes, especially in the final quarter. Ohio State has the toughest opponent among B1G teams, but they looked bad against them. Ohio State did get over 350 yards.

4. Wisconsin (2-0)- Last Week: 4 - Jonathan Taylor rushed 223 rushing yards and three TDs and Chris James rushed 101 yards as the Badgers ran over FAU. Alex Hornibrook had a strong passing game with 201 passing yards. Wisconsin also had 20 more first downs than FAU.

5. Maryland (2-0) - Last Week: 5 - The Terps totally dominated Towson. They had, what seemed, the biggest upset in week 1 for the B1G and they dominated Towson. Kasim Hill threw 13/16 for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Five different running backs also reached the endzone on the ground.

6. Michigan State (2-0) - Last Week: 6 - Got to give WMU props on their OOC schedule. USC and MSU are big games, especially when they scheduled it. They did a fairly good job at not getting blown out. So, I think WMU will be a MAC team to watch. But look at the stats and you will see that the score is misleading. MSU stayed consistent throughout the game.

7. Indiana (1-1, 0-1) - Last Week: 11 - Last week, the Hoosiers showed they have talent, but just couldn't hang with the Buckeyes. This week, they dominated Virginia on the road. Given who they lost to, their dominance this week brings them up to #7.

8. Purdue (1-1)- Last Week: 9 - Purdue hung with Louisville until the end, but just fell short. This week, Blought passed 11/13 for 235 yards and 3 TDs, and Fuller rushed 142 yards with a touchdown.

9. Iowa (2-0) - Last Week: 7 - I have Indiana and Purdue above Iowa even though Iowa is 2-0. Those two looked good over teams much tougher than Wyoming and ISU and dominated this week vs weaker opponent. Iowa's offense looked good as they had over 450 yards. Their defense struggled which created an entertaining shootout that Iowa won in OT.

10. Minnesota (2-0) - Last Week: 12 - A week ago, Gophers did not look impressive against Buffalo. This week, they dominated Oregon State. Third down was not good for the Beavers as they converted 3 of 11 third downs, where Minnesota converted 9 of 13. Minnesota's QB passed 7/8 for 158. Three RBs had a TD and two had over 90 yards rushing.

11. Nebraska (1-1) - Last Week: 8 - If you look at the final score, you think Huskers had a pretty close game. If you watched the game, or turned it on at halftime, you know it was not. The Ducks had a 42-14 lead at the break. Nebraska came within a TD with under 3 minutes left. They lost this week, and last week OT slipped through Arkansas State's hands on one of the final plays, Nebraska has not looked that impressive.

12. Illinois (2-0) - Last Week: 14 - The Fighting Illini squeaked by Ball State last week and did not look good at all. This week, they looked really good against Western Kentucky. They entered the final quarter with a 17-3 lead.

13. Northwestern (1-1)- Last Week: 10 - Two weeks ago, I had the Wildcats in my Top 5 and thinking they are a darkhorse to win the West. Duke totally dominated them in Week 2 and they didn't look all that impressive vs Nevada. They still could win the West, but they need to play a lot better than they are playing.

14. Rutgers (0-2) - Last Week: 13 - The Scarlot Knights looked like it had some promise of improvement when they started strong against Washington. However, losing to EMU puts them last place.

Hornibrook didn't have a strong passing game. He undertrew multiple wide open bombs for tds, had a terrible int and held onto the ball too long. Taylor is a good at RB and the defense only seems to relinquish points after the offense turns the ball over and gives them a very short field.
