You have to have superior QB play in order to beat Alabama.
It's something Les rarely had.

Didn't Ole Miss do that with the best QB they had in years.
Didn't aTm do it with Johnny Football
Didn't Oklahoma do it with whats his name.
Didn't LSU do it with Jordan Jefferson?

I completely agree with you but still it did happen.

Only way to beat Bama is with a good (and preferably mobile) QB, good receivers, and a very good o-line for protection.

Lets not confuse the difference between "great QB" and "superior QB play"

Trevor night gave us "superior QB play" when we beat Alabama, but he could hardly be considered a great QB

You have to be as good as Bama is up front both offensively and defensively or you don't stand a chance.

Why does everybody think it's sooooooo hard to beat Bama? There is one very simple way to guarantee a victory.

Score at least 1 more point than they do.
You'll win every time.

While it may seem easy to pick on Les, he had one of the very few OLs and DLs to get into a caveman style game with Alabama and slug it out with them for 4 quarters. Bama/LSU had some great games when Les and Saban locked horns. Physical, smashmouth, lets see who is boss kind of games.

Now, for the other 98% of college football who don't have 7 or 8 future NFL players on the OL or DL, they need a QB who can sling it a bit, but more importantly, enough weapons and skill players to spread Bama out and have them cover all 53 1/3 yards of the field horizontally, and then attack them via seams vertically, or create favorable matchups of slots on LBs, etc..

Saban has adjusted on that end, and doesn't lumber out 4 LBs of 235+ anymore, but a 4* slot WR with legit 4.5 speed or less is going to beat a 4* LB 9 times out of 10.

On the other side of the ball, you better have some hosses in your front 7 or they'll just bludgeon you to death.

Les Miles is the kind of guy who figures out a hammer isn't the right tool for the job, so he decides he needs a bigger hammer.

He put a lot of dudes in the NFL man. Won a Natty, and was in the game with a serious chance on some others.

SEC West in the Saban era is a tough sled. And he gave Bama everything they wanted in a number of games.
