For some reason I keep feeling that a surprise cut from this team could be Michael Johnson. The guy is just old looking, slow, and could be replaced IF someone can show they will step up. He's already a 0 in pass rush.

I had thought about that, but I like him so I kept him there. However, that wouldn't surprise me. I have a feeling there are going to be many surprise cuts after looking over the roster to get down to 56 men.

With that said, we have no depth at OL at all, and our starters are not that great. Need a full rebuild there probably. Hopefully some of these backups we haven't got to see much of can really step up because I am looking at that crew and I am am like, "Oh boy, that isn't good at all."

I can't see us keeping 4 tight ends.... Three is plenty, considering we also have Hewitt.

I say the same thing every year - Cutting Peerman would be silly. He's too valuable as a ST guy and your 4th running back isn't carrying the ball anyway. We did okay without Peerman last year, but that was largely due to Burkhead stepping up.

Haven't paid enough attention to comment on the rest.... Though I will say that the DTs are very inexperienced under this scenario.

I understand about the 4 TE's with Hewitt also on the team. I can see that happening with 3 and 1 of the new TE's going to practice squad for when Eifert gets hurt.

I agree about Peerman, which is why ideally I would like to see Hill traded for a 4th round pick, which is the best we could expect from him with only 1 year left on his contract and a couple rough seasons although trending up again.

After looking at the DT's again, you may be right. I see Sims as more of a potential keeper for the experience reason alone, which would eliminate Williams.

We will have to see I guess.

I think we could see a shift away from the usual way of doing things this year. So many young guys, and so many guys who are only a year away from really being about done in the NFL. Do you risk losing those younger guys for 1 more year of guys who are simply hanging on?

That being said...Sims makes it (you have him out). Hardison just doesn't do enough to fill that role, either as a starter or a backup NT to Billings. With other guys at DT and DE, I just think he ends up the odd man out, unfortunately.

MJ could be gone unless they really value his ability to play the run, which is something the younger guys don't have any real track of doing yet.

Gilberry was cut last year, and came back. Had a positive impact on the DL with his ability to move inside and out. Could he battle MJ for a roster spot? Especially with his ability to move inside and out.

Clark....can we just say it. Dude was a bad pick. Time to move on. He's this years' Margus Hunt of high draft picks that should just be let go. Instead, we'll have about 14 articles from Hobson on how this being his final contract year pushing him into finally becoming the player everyone (only the bengals) thought he'd be.

Also, word is they are looking to keep Williams on the active roster at safety through his injury....Cox would be out. Could keep him for game 1 with Pacman out, but he'd most likely be inactive anyway. Could be a PS candidate as well.

Don't think we are keeping 4 TE's either. Most likely the draft pick goes to the PS.

I don't speculate trades, but it's safe to assume that Hill is the starting RB on opening day. I think you see a good dose of him and Mixon mixing in on 1st and 2nd downs, and Gio in on 3rd downs. Would love to see the old pro-set with Gio and Mixon both at RB on 3rd downs, as both have the ability to catch and run on mismatches, and yet you have to account for them being able to run the ball as well. Anyway, Carson to the PS.

Yeah, I was thinking, this is a lot of damn players. I wonder if 56 is right. So after I went and saw your post here, I looked it up. My bad man. DOH!

I just really like the undrafted safety Cox. He seems like a player that goes out and gets it. Plays fast, and physical. Seems to have a nose for the ball, a true centerfielder.

Yeah, probably cut down the 4th TE, mostly because we need to cut 3 more damn players from this list..haha.

Probably lose a good young LB in that mix, and you have to consider someone else on offense, as the offense was already sporting the most personnel.

Not going to be our QB's (2), our RB's (5), WR's (7)...we are already running low on quality offensive lineman and I went short there anyways (9). Almost certainly has to be defense.

The last two cuts besides Schreck has to be Bell and Cox to widdle it down to 53. Then you can replace Hardison with Gilberry I guess as a inside or outside player, but then you lose the youth, and Hardison is being groomed to be an inside and outside player. They said he looked great in spring drills. Even beginning of training camp. Not sure why he is not being mentioned anymore.

Maybe Michael Johnson gets cut, and Willis or Smith get starting nods.

I wouldn't have much of an issue with cutting MJ and giving Willis a shot at the full-time starting DE. Especially if you keep a guy like Gilberry around who can help spell him on some of those running downs. But, I love the way Willis looks, and would rather know now, rather than later, if he's going to be able to step up against the run or if they will need to look to add a younger run stopping DE down the line either via draft or free agency.

Although, it wouldn't be the end of the world if they kept him, either. The guys who are pushing for the real playing time there are guys who will be on the roster regardless.

MJ is the new Geathers.... I suspect Marvin will keep rolling him out there until the wheels come completely off.

Easily the most impressive players in exhibition season have been Jordan Willis and Joe Mixon.

Therefore, Marv will trot MJ and Jeremy Hill out there week after week and drive everyone bonkers.

Seniority over productivity. The Marvin Lewis philosophy.

Don't forget mentioning how bad we were before Lewis. We should be grateful to have him.

Lewis did change things for the better. but instead of bringing a bottle of nitro, he needed a nuke.

not his fault I guess. He's still regarded as one of the top minds in football as far as linebacking and defense goes.

Things have gotten static, but we used to be as hapless as the browns are now. Still, the goal is to get to the superbowl again and win it. obviously, not winning a single playoff game is not acceptable in this business. but, it is just a business, and we have one of the best business men in the game in Mike Brown. He's good at leading us on just enough to support this monstrosity.

Flowers traded to NE for 7th round pick.

Peerman to IR.

I would wager that opens the door for Nickerson, maybe.

And of course, Tra will now be the 4th RB behind Hill, Bernard, Mixon.
