Yeah, the Zajac injury is going to impact the Devils season. Wonder if Hischier will step up in Zajac's absence.

@Comeds Lots of big races this weekend, old and young, boys and girls, even one up in Canada. Any thoughts? The Alabama Stakes would obviously be a lot more interesting with either Abel Tasman or Unique Bella entered but it's still a big deal.

The Travers could be fun next weekend too, the Haskell certainly was.

Report: Rangers among ‘final two or three teams’ in running to sign Kerfoot

Honestly, if this guy signs with the Rangers fuck him. If you're not going to sign with the team that drafted you there better be a valid reason. Want to be close to family, don't want to play in a certain area, etc. But to burn the team that drafted you and play 10 minutes away? That's scummy.

Shouldn't be too sad about losing out on a shittier version of an already shitty player, Jimmy Vesey.

Teams draft players and end up exercising their option to not sign them all the time. I'm not sure why so many people get so upset when it happens the other way (I will make an exception for fans of the "spurned" team, I understand why they're upset, it's an emotional thing for them)

I think it depends on whether or not the player is being forthright with his intentions regarding signing with the team that drafted him and that's where you need your GM to be astute in making that call. Flames got burned with Tim Erixon being wooed away by the Rangers a few years back when he looked like a shoo-in to make the team (of course, that was when Jay Feaster was GM of the Flames). This past off-season as part of the Mike Smith trade with Arizona, the Flames sent the rights to unsigned Brandon Hickey to the Coyotes. I think Brad Treliving was reading the tea leaves and determined that Hickey likely wasn't going to sign with Calgary.

It's happened to the Jackets recently, and while I hope Mike Reilly fails spectacularly and want him to play at least one game where we bring back Jody Shelley and Jared Boll for just that game, my over-arching feeling is fuck Mike Reilly. If he doesn't want to play here, I don't want him to be here.

You need to rely on your GM to get those answers out of the kid in interviews. In Reilly's case he was a 4th rounder, so you can't expect GMs to be that detailed, but for anyone you plan to take in the first two rounds, you need to have seriously had discussions with anyone who could potentially be there at your pick.

How about we just abolish the draft and let grown men decide for themselves where they want to be employed like the rest of society does?

That Kerfoot guy could be good for the Rangers, be interesting to see where he ends up.
