Preseason Week 2: vs. Falcons

Offense... Looking forward to seeing Dobbs get the start again. He didn't blow our socks off last week, but he displayed some good traits worthy of the backup position. He should get better! But I'm most looking forward to seeing James Conner & Martavis Bryant in action. Conner was limited in camp this week but he & Tomlin both stated he would play and get "all the work he can handle". Would love to see what all the fuss is about, but I don't want him risking further injury. Davis, Toussaint & Watson should see the bulk of the work. Marty B didn't look rusty in camp so I'm hoping we won't see any rust on the field today. Also worthy of our attention will be Coates, Hunter, DHB & Hamilton. They are all battling for the last WR roster spot. Should be an exciting game for them.

Defense... As Tomlin would say, "obviously" Watt will garner most of the attention. I expect more of the same playing beside that beastly D-line. Want to see Chickillo get in on the action as well. The Walton/McCullers battle is drawing to a close. Walton seems to have a firm lead. We might be seeing Big Dan's last few games in the B&G. Excited to see Hilton play again. I really hope he sticks around. Also read from numerous sources at PennLive & the Post-Gazette that Coty Sensabaugh has emerged as the clear CB3 or CB4. Need to see that on the field before I believe it. Also want to see Brian Allen get some extended work as well.

Also looking forward to seeing one of our draft favorites, Takk McKinley, make his debut...

1st O series...

1st & 10: WR screen to Bryant. Complete but tackled behind LOS.
2nd & 13: Quick pass to the left to Toussaint. Complete but limited gain.
3rd & 5: Pressure from behind. Ball knocked from Dobbs. Matt Feiler starting at LG. He & Villanueva had a bad block pass-off (twist).

Result: 3 & out.

1st D series...

Jesus. Secondary getting picked apart. Falcons already on the 5 yard line.

Matakevich gets run over... TD Falcons.

10 plays, 91 yds... Ryan picked apart the defense. I hope Tomlin keeps the starters out there for longer if they keep looking that undisciplined.

2nd O-series...

1st & 10: Run up the middle to Toussaint. Gain of 3.
2nd & 7: Run up the middle again to Toussaint. Gain of 2. Finney got owned.
3rd & 4: Pass dumped off to Rodgers for 2yds.

3 & out again.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Another disastrous series for the defense. This time the backup QB was picking them apart. Secondary bleeding yards. Luckily the backup QB stalled the drive out in the RZ, and a WR dropped an easy TD (Cockrell in coverage, let his guy get inside release in RZ??? WTF?)

3rd O series:

1st & 10: Run delay up the middle for Conner. Tripped up for a gain of 3.
2nd & 7: Play-action, incomplete to DHB. Ball bounced off his hip (could have had that). Pass Interference penalty on the defense. 1st down.

1st & 10: Reverse to Bryant. Bryant tripped but it was snuffed out. Fumbled the ball out of bounds.
2nd & 11: Run up the middle for Conner. Good cuts inside. Gain of 5.
3rd & 6: Shotgun formation. Pass to Bryant, underthrown but good recovery by Bryant. Complete.

1st & 10: Low pass to DHB running a post formation. DHB didn't go after it? He limped off the field.
2nd & 10: Run to the left for Conner. Swallowed up immediately in the backfield. Loss of 6.
3rd & 16: Shotgun. Dump to Jesse James. Gain of 12. Penalty on PIT for ineligible man downfield (DeCastro).
3rd & 16: Draw to Conner. Gain of 11.

42yd FG by Boswell. Drilled it.

Summary: 1 gifted 1st down, and 1 legit 1st down. Drive stalled midway to the RZ. FG good.
