These young guys aren't going to command huge dollars in their first contracts after their entry level deals anyway. They will sign bridge deals for 3-4 seasons and less money, then theoretically get their big paydays.

Patrick and Provorov could be different in that respect, but I still don't see Provorov getting $7 million per season right away in 2019, even if he is actually worth it at the time. $5-6 million is a better estimate, which basically just has him taking MacDonald's money.

This is why home grown talent is best. Building your team via the draft. You get several good/great years of players while they are very inexpensive and they may even take a hometown discount by the time they are really getting paid.
I wish everything that you believe happens because it does sound nice when you write it. I wish all of our young players not only Prov took less than they are worth. Problem is it doesn't happen to often.

It does happen often for home grown talent. We're building a powerhouse team here slowly but surely and guys are going to take less to be a part of it. Ghost could've probably gotten a lot more than $4.5 million if he really wanted it, especially considering that was not a bridge deal. He's put up 85 points in only two seasons while missing a bunch of games too. Not many defensemen do that right out of the gate.

Again it does sound good. As far as Ghost "a lot" more is a bit of a stretch dont you think.

He probably could've easily made $6 or 8 million more over the full length of his deal. That's what I mean by "a lot."

If he finds the elite level of his rookie season and keeps it, $4.5 million will be a true bargain for him for many years to come, really.

Like Giroux, it's been admitted that his offseason surgery lingered on into the season and slowed him down, so I'm betting on him rebounding.

We need all of the young guns to step up if we are going to make the playoffs this season and get these kids some playoff experience.

Three of the top 9 forward may be Koneckny, Patrick and Lindblom. Defense could have Ghost, Morin, Hagg, Sanheim or Myers. Couts is 24 and Weal 25. Go young guys!!

Provorov and to a lesser extent Vecchione too.

Who's next: 4 young duos that could get paid like McDavid-Draisaitl

A lot of articles saying the young stars are going to get paid because of the Draisaitl contract. This article brings up Zach Werenski and we all know Prov is every bit as good if not better.

To me, Draisaitl got paid in the same way for almost the same amount that Voracek did. One good season of roughly a point per game at the perfect time and then a huge $8 million and change per season contract. Hopefully Voracek backs that contract up this coming season and is worth every penny of it. He's an incredible skater, but he needs to score more goals and make more plays, at even strength and on the power play.

Provorov is right there with Werenski, but not yet statistically, only because he wasn't put in as many solid offensive situations.

I sure hope we don't have to pay anyone else north of $8 million, but you just never know. Maybe Provorov with his 3rd contract or Patrick.

August being August!

But we're getting close to preseason. 4 weeks to the day away from the first preseason game!
