Great guy to mentor the young players, but there's just not enough space for him, whether it be cap room or actual bodies on the roster. Even if you can get past his age and work around his price tag, there are some rookies that we'd probably much rather have on the ice instead of him.
I think we should hire him as a coach being that it looks like hes done playing.

50/50 Until one of them emerges, then maybe 60/40 and when Neuvy gets hurt midway through the season, call up Stolarz and give him enough starts to keep Elliott fresh.

Altogether, probably 40 starts for Elliott, 30 for Neuvy and 12 for Stolarz/Lyon.
This sounds about right although i hope Lyon/Stolarz get a little more playing time.

Crazy thing is we may actually enough space if he was willing to take $3 mill/year with either Read, Weise, Laughton or Vecchione being sent down. We would still have $500k in space. I don't however see it happening. He did, however play 82 games with 16 -30 - 46 and a +2. That would have been good for 5th on the Flyers and well ahead of Read, Weise and Raffl. Would he go as low as $3 mill? He would not replace a young guy with Read and Weise as options to send down.

Gee did have one of his best years playing the middle with Jagr on the wing.

If it came down to Jagr in the lineup vs. Read or Weise, I think it's Jagr.

I would do it if he agreed to around $2.5 million or less and playing on the third line with Couturier.

Based on this article, he seems to be fine with the third line. He could still get a bunch of power play time on one of the units. I just don't really want him taking minutes from Patrick, Lindblom or Konecny.

Jagr still in NHL limbo, may play in Europe

Afternoon folks! Speaking of Kane, I believe I just saw him out the other day around Canalside in Buffalo. Surprisingly he was staying out of trouble.
Hows it going Mall hope your'e enjoying the summer!
A couple of things to notice about this list. Kane is the number 1 winger in the league 10 years after being drafted and JVR no where to be found on the list.Patty Kane the one that got away. Very disappointing to have no current Flyers on the list.

Everything is good. Been very busy traveling and next trip out is to Paris and Iceland in November. I check in to see what you guys are writing now and then.

Going from drafting 13 to drafting in the 2 hole gave us the best ranking possible now we need it to pay off not as potential but as actual results.

Maybe so, but we were already top five in the rankings (that I've seen) even before we got the windfall of drafting 2nd overall. Since 2016, we've had several prospects show us another gear, many of which are arguably ready for the Nhl now.

As long as these players are able to adjust to the Nhl game fairly seamlessly, the payoff and actual results should start coming this season. That's why I'm confident that we're going to score more goals, give up fewer goals and have a better overall standing too. There may be some mistakes early on, but these young guys are resilient and they will bounce back quickly.

If we come along quicker than expected, Filppula, Read, Umberger and Manning all come off the books next season, so there will be some cap space to acquire scoring help. Potentially $10-12 million even.

The 10-12 million will have to be saved so that we can pay all the young defenseman that we have and Patrick in a few years so its not like we can spend it.

It can be spent as far as I'm concerned. Why? Lehtera, Raffl, Elliott, Neuvy and more all come off the books the following season. That's another $12 million and change. MacDonald and Gudas the season after that.

Whether it is spent on short term help that pushes us into Cup competition or younger players that have more long term value, the space is there.

These young guys aren't going to command huge dollars in their first contracts after their entry level deals anyway. They will sign bridge deals for 3-4 seasons and less money, then theoretically get their big paydays.

Patrick and Provorov could be different in that respect, but I still don't see Provorov getting $7 million per season right away in 2019, even if he is actually worth it at the time. $5-6 million is a better estimate, which basically just has him taking MacDonald's money.

This is why home grown talent is best. Building your team via the draft. You get several good/great years of players while they are very inexpensive and they may even take a hometown discount by the time they are really getting paid.
