I watched some video of McGregor sparring. the interesting thing I noticed was connor blocking shots with his forearms, you usually see boxers hiding behind their gloves. The odd part of it is it looks like he is throwing an elbow to the hand, and everyone knows that Floyd's hands are pretty brittle.

Both fighters are counter fighters and Floyds superior speed should be noticeable right away so Connor needs to be extra careful throwing that heavy left hand. Floyd just may be waiting for it.

Also, McGregor is not going to have the gas tank to go 12 rounds. My guess is he will start gassing after 2 rounds before Mayweather goes to work. I can see Floyd playing it safe until McGregor tries to catch his breath before he starts backing Connor into the corner and letting loose in round 3 or 4 before the ref stops the fight.

:noidea:
While I 100% agree with you that Conor doesn't have the stamina to go 12, if I do the math, I think it might play out a little differently than his MMA stuff. In boxing, he'll get a break after 3 minutes instead of 5. He won't be dancing around like a goddamn monkey, either. That might help him go a bit longer. No chance on 12 rounds, but maybe he doesn't get gassed until the 6th or so. I think his bigger challenge will be not being overly hyped and trying to go for the KO too early, thus expending all his energy trying to throw a haymaker.

My flight lands in Vegas around 5. Pregaming in the airport and on the plane should have me feeling pretty good by the time I touch down.

I think that is what Connor will do to cause him to gas. Punch himself out before Floyd can get his timing down. I don't see a better/more realistic way for Connor to win and certainly doubt his chances increase the deeper the fight goes. Especially since he is the heavier fighter of the 2.

I was in vegas for McGregor/Aldo. It was a blast. I figured Conor's following was a bunch of Americans who are Irish. No, it was all crazy Irishmen. They shut down the MGM grand casino after the fight. Dancing on blackjack tables, singing Irish songs. It was hilarious. Half of them probably missed the fight though. A lot of them could barely walk at noon.

Yeah, but 154 is way under his walking around weight (170+) so I don't think it's big disadvantage. If anything, the lighter weight makes him quicker because his frame is used to supporting more. I don't know how to explain what I'm trying to say :dhd:

I was planning on watching this fight, but then realized it interferes with college football, so I'll pass unless they agree to at least have the fight under kickboxing rules.

Yeah, I expect it to be Vegas². Which means I probably won't remember most of it and I'm glad I'm taking Monday and Tuesday off of work!

I get what you are saying. I am basing most of my opinion on how he has gotten gassed in the UFC even at the lower weight fights but to be fair, he has only had 2 MMA fights go longer than 2 rounds so that's not a very good sample size to know how his tank will be in a boxing match.

Pretty cool story. The song is number 1 on iTunes and the kid is donating all the money to a children's hospital in Ireland. Mcgregor got the kid a flight, hotel, frontvrow seats after hearing the song.

Here are some random Vegas odds... my reaction I'm parentheses.

McGregor does not land a punch: 20-1 (WOW)
Mayweather KO McGregor in 60 seconds: 40-1 (meh)
Both fighters to be knocked out simultaneously: 250-1 (LOL)
