Beta comes out in two weeks. Looks pretty cool so far. Some big changes but still more or less the same game.

I'm getting it.

I think its going to be a really good PVE game and a garbage PVP game at launch, though. My .02 as someone who watches literally every Destiny 2 video that pops up in my youtube feed.

Yeah I agree with you. But I play it primarily for PvE anyway. I only play PvP when I get bored with PvE or I need to gain some sort of loot through PvP.

I did a little bit of everything but they've done 3 really dumb things with PVP:

1. Getting rid of modes that everyone is used to playing
2. Making all PvP 4v4 yet all PvE content is with 1-3 players or 6 players so people wont be switching back and forth
3. Only 1 player gets 'Power Ammo' aka All of the Interesting Weapons. People are going to rage quit left and right when some random stranger takes the Power Ammo every game.

The PVE stuff should be good. Bungie has been sitting on a lot of this content since before Destiny and the fiasco with them changing course a couple of months before Destiny 1. The Kotaku article mentions a lot of the scrapped material and surprise - its a lot of the same stuff thats showing up in Destiny 2 so they've had years to get it right.

You also have the Taken King people working on this and almost all of the good Story content was from the Taken King.

They've also given every Titan a Shield and every Warlock support so in a way there will be a lot more freedom in which subclass you get to pick at high levels if I was to guess.

There are some PVP things I like. Activating your Super gives you more moves than before and in PVP you can't kill another player in a Super in one hit. So you'll have a lot of Super on Super battles where you'll have to outplay the other player. The player maps are also smaller with more sight lines which I think should allow for a variety of strategies now that Sniper Ammo is pushed back to Power Weapons.

Whats the selling point on Overwatch? Character variety?

It doesn't look like it has a whole lot of content

So the beta is interesting. Pretty limited which is probably a better strategy than giving the game away in beta and having everyone have to reset their achievements, ala The Division.

PvP doesn't seem all that much different. The story mission was pretty long and the Strike was fun. I assume that there will be more to them when the full game releases.

I haven't been able to play it yet but reddit is convinced that its the end of the world now that they have to shoot things with primary weapons.

There are also a couple of Supers that aren't in their correct spec so you'll likely have people complaining about the Warlock being underpowered in PVP and Golden Gun not lasting long enough but thats because the beta doesnt have the right perk set unlocked for PVP imo.

Hunter in general looks like its in a weird spot. With Arc Strider you can run through a lot of the content by just spamming Dodge, Melee, Dodge, Melee, Dodge, Melee, Dodge, Melee. It looks really out of place but I guess its not anything game breaking. When Raids come around, though, Arc Strider has zero support abilities and will see zero use I'd imagine.

I think this video shows what I'm talking it with Arc Strider

I think 4v4 PVP isnt too bad due to the map size but I'm hearing solo players are getting totally crushed in PVP as expected.

I'm liking what I'm seeing out of Destiny 2 even if its not reinventing the wheel or anything.

Im glad they aren't reinventing the wheel to be honest. I really loved Destiny and I want an improved version of that game rather than a new game with the same name.

Game play feels largely the same. But there is a lot to learn about the new kits and abilities.

I played the beta yesterday and I was getting some serious Halo flashbacks. It seems okay but I think it would have to be on sale for me to have much interest.

I think thats the best approach for most people who aren't already super in to the Destiny franchise. Destiny 2 will get better and it will get cheaper.

I do think its coming out at a time where it has almost no competition because most of the good games game out at the beginning of the year so I don't have much of an issue getting it right away.

If it's anything like the first one there is a built in expectation to also buy the DLC. I don't want to put $100-$120 into a game I might completely forget about after a couple weeks. If it's $30 in November like most games will be I might get it. I don't expect the DLC to go on sale anytime soon though.

If you can't get a few people to regularly play PvE then Destiny really isn't worth it. The PvE is what makes it great.

I liked the beta.Certainly an evolutionary step from D1. But that's fine with me. I loved the first one. If they make the Raid great I will be more than happy.

Just curious but do you say that as someone who plays a lot of PVP in other games or just someone who doesn't like the PVP?

As far as I can tell, the PVP and PVE in Destiny 2 are both going to have the same issue - massive, massive skill gap.

I think the emphasis on clans will help PVE or at least the 50% that are actually competent. A big question for Destiny 2 is whether or not all of those 'silent mic, please carry me' players are going to actually be able to learn the game. Applying for clans is going to be like a job interview now so for people who are actually into Destiny 2, they'll be able to cull the bad players out of the Raids. It sounds cruel and its probably really bad for Destiny 2 but it will likely make the PVE experience a lot better. You still have the whole Raid issue that exists in every MMO where you'll be mixing people who have never played it before with people who have but the expectation gap is something that can be overcome. Its the effort gap that most clans arent going to put up with. Possibly a skills gap, too.

The PVP is only going to be playable in clans. Like I'm not even going to PVP with my friends because only 1 of them is any good and Destiny 2's PVP is a lot more skill based than Destiny 1. In Destiny 1, you could actually forge your own way in the PVP but now its more team based. You actually need to have teammates you know so you won't be fighting your own team for power ammo drops and if someone rage quits or drops in 4v4 you pretty much automatically lose.

I actually think eventually the PVP could be quite good but only after they add ranked play, a casual free for all mode and/or a Mayhem mode and eventually teams start forming that are serious. The reason why I think Destiny 2 might have a PVP with legs is because the FPS multiplayer scene is coming into view and Destiny 2 doesn't have much direct competition in what its trying to do.

Overwatch is currently lacking new content
Call of Duty Sci Fi (relatively) bombed and they are going back to basics
Battlefield went retro and epic
Titanfall 2 really bombed
Halo isnt on PS4
Lawbreakers went way into mobility to the point of being Unreal and itll likely bomb

So Destiny 2 actually has its own niche with slow time to kills, skill based combat and small team objective PVP. Its just not there yet and likely wont be great at first because of the lack of content. Thats something that could change in 3 months or 2 years depending on what Bungie has planned but it'll change.

I do think they've alienated a silent majority of Destiny 1 PVP players who liked all of the cheesy overpowered things in Destiny 1 so the PVP could lose a lot of its 'middle class' that relied on some crutches to make players look better than they actually are. That said, I think all of those players have and will move to Overwatch which is the Madden/Magic the Gathering/World of Warcraft behemoth that will squash all games similar to it and I think thats why you see other games changing directions.

With Mass Effect and No Man's Sky crashing and burning then its not hard to see Destiny 2 PVE being able to carry the game even if Destiny 2 PVP ends up boring. I just don't think that is going to happen.

I loved Destiny 1 for about a month or two. That first month or two it was one of my all tinne favorite games. But it was like they accidentally built a game I liked, and every conscious design decision they made moved it further away from what I wanted. It looks to me like Destiny 2 continued that trend.

Besides I'm having too much fun on Fortnite right now.

How is Fortnite? It seems like an alright game from some of the videos ive seen but generally I avoid Free to play games like the plague due to production values, needed money transactions ("pay to win"), etc.

I'm actually playing Salt and Sanctuary which was super cheap in a recent PSN sale and its the perfect blend of Castlevania and Dark Souls without some of the issues I have with Dark Souls.

I got a free copy of the game. But right now it's $40 for what feels like a very f2p game. And it's very pay to win. Very, very, VERY pay to win. It's also super grindy. You need to grind a bunch of different stuff.

But so far I like it, and don't mind grinding. The grinding is still fun to me. I can honestly say though if I hadn't gotten so lucky on a couplke pure rng loot rolls i wouldn't be having nearly as much fun.

Apparently you can down load the full game right now in preparation of the release in 2 weeks.

Getting pretty excited to play it.
