John McEnroe Won’t Apologize for His Serena Williams Ranking

John McEnroe refused to apologize Tuesday for his controversial comments about Serena Williams, but begrudgingly placed the tennis star in his personal list of the best pros in the sport.

McEnroe — who’s best known for his outbursts on the court during his tennis career — sparked outrage over the weekend when called Williams one of the best “female players” and said she would rank “700th in the world” if she played tennis against men.

In an interview with “CBS This Morning,” host Norah O'Donnell asked the 58-year-old tennis star if he wanted to apologize for the comments. He responded simply, "No."

I know he's just trying to sell his book but is McEnroe ranked #699 in the world and maybe angling for a PPV payday for a match against Serena. A match in which I fully expect Serena would beat McEnroe easily if they ever played each other. So, maybe he's channeling his inner Bobby Rigs???

I think Mac would beat Serena handily if they played (and Serena wasn't in the family way). Mac still has game.

How many great Tennis male players are there right now? The Williams sisters played in better shape than 95%+ of all men so I suspect they'd be able to compete for sure. I think they'd have a hard time hitting the top but Im guessing they'd be somewhere between 10-30th in the men's bracket just making a ballpark guess based on nothing.

Mac is in way better shape than Bobby was back in the day. Bobby obliterated Margaret Court in an earlier match and there have always been rumors that he threw the match at the behest of gamblers to whom he owed money.

I've seen Mac play recently. He's still got plenty of game. As a matter of fact, with the sad state of doubles these days, he could still make a living playing on the tour if he were so inclined.

riggs was 55 years old at the time, and king was in the prime of her career.

it was a great moment, for sure, but has zero application to how serena would do against ATP pros in the top 500-700.
