Latest mock draft has Bacon going #55. Should have stayed in school kid.

DraftExpress - 2017 Mock Draft

Kennard and Donovan Mitchell have soared. JC has remained steady in the late lottery range.

Going to assume a big reason why Bacon left was because he would have been a 22 year old Junior.

Frank Jackson is currently #39. If he can sneak into the end of round 1 then that would be huge

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Geno Thorpe, a graduate transfer from South Florida, has committed to Syracuse University.

"It's official,'' Thorpe said in a telephone interview on Friday. "I'm going to do my fifth-year at Syracuse.''

Thorpe, a 6-foot-4 guard, visited Syracuse on Thursday and Friday. He chose the Orange after also considering Pittsburgh and Seton Hall. He has one year of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately next season.

Thorpe was South Florida's leading scorer last season at 15.1 points per game. He also led the Bulls in assists with 4.6 per game.

SU was in a good position to pick up Thorpe so this was expected. But I'm burned out on transfers. They struggle with the zone nuances and it takes most of the season to get used to it.

It's painful watching good players struggle while JB loses his mind.

I didn't see this posted anywhere, but this is a pretty significant pick up IMO:

Pretty weird decision.

It is weird especially if he wants to get to the tournament. But Boston College should be alot better next year. Robinson, Bowman and now Hawkins is a pretty good 1, 2, 3 punch.

Lose AJ Turner, though. I do agree that they should be better, but that isn't really saying much. BC the past two years have been embarrassingly bad.

Simple solution to this IMO is allow players to go from High School to the NBA but if you go to college then you must stay 2 or 3 years.

Agreed. I also feel like this could be a good opportunity to build up the G-League.

Recruiting News:

John Newman commits to Clemson. Newman's been climbing up the rankings recently with pretty good showings. He's from Greensboro Day, which is an elite HS program in the state of NC.

Newman visited Wake a bunch of times, but it appears that Wake wanted him to wait until they see what happens with Jaylen Hoard and Isaiah Mucius.

Pretty sure Wake is perceived to be the favorite to land Hoard right now and is one of the favorites for Mucius. You never know with recruiting though.

At the end of the day, solid pickup from Clemson. Will be interested to see if Brownell makes it to the end of next season, though. Have to figure that his seat is getting pretty warm.

Wow, what a contrast after playing one of the toughest OOC schedules in the country last year. I honestly don't think Wake will play a tournament team in the OOC. My guess is they'll play Houston in the Paradise Jam final, but I don't think they'll be a tournament team either. I would say UNCG has the chance to be the auto bid winner in the So. Con, but my guess is that'll still be a team hovering around 100 or so in the RPI, so would that be a "quality" win in the committee's eyes? Although I will say Illinois and Tennessee could both be surprise tournament teams. I don't think either will get there, personally, but both should be in contention, I'd guess, so it won't look awful on the resume.

These were the RPI's of Wake's opponents last year:

Georgia Southern - 128
Liberty - 176
Drake - 314
Colorado(assuming) - 98
Houston(assuming) - 57
UNCG - 95
Illinois - 64
Richmond - 80
Charlotte - 243
Army - 266
Coastal Carolina - 185
Tennessee - 83

I think this OOC will set Wake up to be a pretty interesting case come Selection Sunday next year. My guess this will put them in the 230-260 range as far as OOC SOS(using RPI). With this type of schedule they can really only afford 1 loss max.

OOC schedule has been tough during Manning's first three years, this is a clear step back in that regard. When Wake was on the bubble last year, I never heard the "They played a great OOC schedule, so let's reward them" talking point. It was all about the Top 50 wins statistic and the "they play in the ACC, so let's reward them" talking point. It was pretty weird.

It would be nice to see Wake go undefeated through the OOC schedule next year. Its definitely manageable, but who knows.

Think if one of the bigs step up next year, then Wake's going to have a solid squad.

These rankings could become a general consensus among the media, but I still think its wrong.

Would be great if Miami was indeed the best team in the ACC. Would be a nice win for the Gophers in the B1G/ACC Challenge, if they get it.
