UGA 2014 was better than Michigan 2016. UGA 2016 was better than Michigan 2014. Michigan 2015 was better than UGA 2015.
That's a dramatic stretching of statistics. If you wanna cherry pick like that, you can make any team look better than any team. michigan has been clearly better the last two years, they're the better team in the CFP era.

I'm not stretching at all. Out of the 6 seasons between the 2 UGA has the best "best" season and the best "worst" season. No doubt Michigan has been better the last 2 seasons, but they still didn't finish either season as good as UGA did in 2014. Is winning 2 more games in those seasons make up for the 5 win differential in 2014, I'd say no.

The fact that you have to go to these lengths to explain your point pretty much says it all.

michigan went UR, 12th, 10th.
Georgia went 9th, UR, UR.

That you went so far as to separate them by 5 spots makes it even worse.

I'm not going out of my way at all. You have to take into account every season. Which I'm doing. I mean all the numbers back up my opinion. Did you even know Michigan is 33rd in winning % in the CFP era? When you have 3 data points and one of those data points is awful(Michigan 2014 season) that weighs down what has been accomplished since then.

You're also ignoring the fact that michigan has faced 7 top 10 teams (3 top 5, another finished 6th) while Georgia has faced 2 top 10 teams (1 top 5). One season doesn't sink two very good seasons. Two bad seasons sinks one very good season. michigan has been a top team for 2/3 of the CFP. Georgia has been a top team 1/3, while facing far fewer elite opponents.

According to Massey averaging out the 3 season's SOS's these are the numbers:

Michigan's Average SOS = 27
Georgia's Average SOS = 29

Both teams have essentially played the same schedule. Again, I haven't ignored schedule. It's why Boise State and Houston are where they are.

So despite playing a tougher schedule (with FAR more elite teams on it), michigan has finished ranked twice while Georgia has finished ranked once? Where have I heard that before? Hmm...

Sure, never said otherwise. But again, I'm including every season.

So am I. The difference is that you think finishing unranked twice in 3 years facing a weaker schedule involving less than 1/3 of the elite teams on it is a better resume than finishing unranked once in 3 years facing a stronger schedule with far more elite teams on it.

The SOS is minimal. UGA has more wins, a better winning %, has the best season, and hasn't finished below .500. We can't even quantify how bad Michigan's season was in 2014, because they weren't even in other receiving votes that season, something UGA is included in all 3 years.

Since you seem to be fine with me using Massey's SOS, I'm sure you'll be fine with me mentioning that if you average out the ranking of each of the season's, Michigan's comes to 27 and UGA's comes to 18.

Two seasons of work > one season of work.

Double digit win seasons? Tie.
Wins over top 10 teams? michigan
Wins over ranked teams? Tie.
Top 10 finishes? Tie.
Top 15 finishes? michigan
Top 25 finishes? michigan
SOS? michigan
Elite opponents faced? michigan by a complete landslide

You say the SOS is marginal, but UGA's "Best season" is 1 spot ahead of michigan's. That was BY FAR Georgia's best year, while michigan had another 12th ranked finish.

Wisconsin should be no where near the top 10.

That is all.

Yes, Michigan's last two seasons have been better than UGA's. Michigan's 2014 season isn't even quantifiable, it was that bad, they don't show up in ORV in either poll. UGA doesn't have a season that bad. Not even remotely close to it. That's why Michigan is 33rd in winning %, and UGA is tied for 15th, interestingly enough with Utah and Baylor, who have also had worse seasons the last 2 years compared to Michigan.

Considering you omitted Utah from your rankings entirely, I'd say it speaks to how much winning % actually means.

If Georgia played the amount of elite teams michigan played, they'd be nowhere near the conversation. I don't disagree necessarily with Baylor, though it seems they're headed in the wrong direction. In the end, I just can't understand why valuing one season over two makes sense to you.

We were only good the first year of this, I don't think that warrants 17th place

I didn't omit Utah.

I'm valuing 3 seasons.

Hahaha I missed you had them in since you put them at 10th. How absurd. A team that has finished no higher than 17th in the rankings, is tied for 15th in winning percentage, and has only played in the Las Vegas Bowl vs G5 teams (x2) and the Foster Farms Bowl is 10th.

You're valuing them in a convoluted, subjective way. That much is clear.

I like your order and reasoning, I didn't realize Florida St got beat that badly for some reason. Moving them down to the bottom and then moving the rest up is about perfect.
That is, until FSU wins the national championship this year, starting with a long overdue beat down of AL.

I don't know how you do it. Don't you get nauseated arguing for Michigan?
