I like it and equally hope we sign him. If he is our backup last year Russ probably gets sat a game or two, and we may have squeaked out another win or two along with Russ being healthier for the playoffs.

That's all true, but after biting the bullet to develop a back up for a year, won't it be counter productive to change course? Nick Foles, RG3, and Kaep all had some surprising success early on due to their teams using a college like offense that was unsustainable in the long run. Once these QBs had to try to learn to play in a Pro offense they turned into pumpkins.

It's not how long you've spent investing into a backup QB, it's what did you get within the time of your investment? Pete's motto is always compete, and if you think for one minute that Boykin is even close to the caliber of QB than that of Kap I suggest you watch some film. There's a reason Russ went out there game after game as a liability, and that's because Boykin was the white flag in any game. Don't think for a minute his off the field issues are the only reason we are looking outside, if Kap lowers his demands he signs. All just my opinion, but equally seems pretty obvious.

Colin Kaepernick (G, GS, REC, Comp/Att Yard TD/INT Rating Rush-Yard-TD):

Against Seattle:

9, 8, 1-7-0, 118/211 1300 4/9 62.9 54-357-0

Against All Others:

66, 56, 31-25-0, 987/1643 12345 75/26 92.1 372-2450-17

If Kaep could've played better against Seattle he may be held in higher regard (even with his political stances). He actually put up decent numbers with little help from his running game, no receivers and a horrible defense. He's no Russell Wilson, but he's a better talent and more experienced than Boykin.

Lol with stats like that you would think Seattle would hope he signs elsewhere:hope:

Does look like the Seahawks feel they need a QB with more game time experience.

I think you can go a lot bigger than that. Had he played better against the Hawks, he may never have lost his job in SF. He may be a SB Champ. Instead, a few inches off the mark and "the tip" is more or less the beginning of the end for him. Sports is funny like that sometimes.

I encouraged another poster to go watch the game again on youtube (it's even in 720), because Kaep WAS the offence in that game. Their D balled for most of the game, but the O was nonexistent outside of Kaepernick.

Yeah, and the 9ers failure to continue to use him as a running threat in the second half has always baffled me. 7 for 100 yards in the first half (including taking a knee) and 4 for 30 in the second. The 9ers have been in free fall ever since that pass to Crabtree.

Now, I don't mind bringing in Kaep as a veteran back up - and his skillset would give Seattle a QB who plays a similar game to Russell's. Yes, the offense wouldn't be as effective and the entire playbook wouldn't be available, but I think we could win a game with Kaep at QB if needed. Depending on qualifiers, the Hawks could pay Kaep around $1 million on a one year contract and the cap hit would only cost us about $100,000 more than what we currently have (veteran cap discount + cutting Boykin), if he makes the team. I am finding it difficult what all the qualifications are for the veteran cap discount for this season (the only ones I know for cerain are 2 years experience or more and signing a 1 year contract), but it is being used for Arthur Brown (1yr./$775,000 but cap hit only $615,000).

I'd take Kaepernick. RGKnee is a lost cause. He's just another injury waiting to happen and you're on your 3rd QB.

Kaep will probably a) behave himself because it's obvious his bullshit kneeling in San Fran hurt his FA cause, b) know he will be a backup, c) has starting/playoff/Super Bowl experience, d) succeeded on a team that VERY much mirrors Seattle currently. Was obvious Harbaugh mailed it in his final year and after that the team was run by complete morons.

Currently, I'm basically writing our season off if Wilson gets injured. I would NOT be writing it off if he got injured and Kaepernick was the backup.

To me it's a completely obvious signing. Kaep never really had bad blood with Seattle. It was Crabtree and Harbaugh so I can't imagine the team would have some huge issue with him (outside of maybe the kneeling thing, but I think some Seahawks were kneeling too lol). I remember Wilson/Kaep even had that lol eyebrow shave thing going on. I think he'd fit in fine here.

Seattle is also completely attractive for a style of living at this point. The weather is similar to SF and the market there is insane thanks to Google/Amazon/Facebook.

I would prefer Kaep over RG3 as well, RG3 is just way too injury prone... As far as the weather being like San Fran's here, Seattle is way colder, our winters might mild compared to other northern States because of the water affect, but we get zapped by cold air from the North at times and we freeze up ... San Fran is way more mild in that regard...

True, but it's nothing like Minnesota, Chicago, Green Bay, etc. And he's not going from like San Diego or Miami here. But yah I get what you're saying.

I lived in Wash for nearly 30 years (10 in Eastlake/Queen Anne) so I have a pretty good idea :)

Bringing in Kaepernick as the backup sort of would be the epilogue to the story of how the Hawks vanquished their arch enemy. After crushing them on the battlefield and destroying their empire, we take in their best warrior to be a mere apprentice in our ranks. Each time we play them, their fans have a symbolic reminder of who was the big dog in that 2 or 3 year stretch where the best rivalry in the league was Seattle vs SF.....and the only reason why it still isn't is because we broke them.

Been to Leavenworth a few times. Yes I agree. Washington is no picnic either. I definitely agree with your post on SF vs. Washington, but Kaep could choose a lot worse destinations (in terms of cold).

In any event, no news on his signing. Maybe he wants way too much? Guess we'll see after the holiday weekend. Cheers to the 3 day weekend! :suds:
