A few reasons. One, I think the first game was so well done it did not need to be watered down by a sequel. Two, I felt like RDR was a horse riding simulator at times, how are they going to change up the second game to make it feel fresh, including the story?

I'll end up buying it I am sure, I just would have loved to see a new experience from Rockstar (or another Max Payne)

RDR was already a "sequel"(not story wise) to Red Dead Revolver...

These companies are becoming more and more careful about not rushing stuff out too soon. LOTS of well respected AAA titles have blown their companies up lately, and future installments canceled or put in indefinite mothballs.

Deus Ex - dead
Dishonored - dead
Mass Effect - on hold indefinitely

I read yesterday that the announcement of the delay on RDR sent stock tumbling, but that it had recovered by today (may have my dates wrong, but you get the idea). They'd rather have the stock take a hit and recover, than what EA had happen with Bioware's M.E.

In all three, the sequels weren't horrible games, imo, but they just suffered from incredibly high expectations. The original Deus ex, Dishonored, and the first ME trilogy (other than the end of 3) were all considered top flight titles.

I don't think Rockstar wants any part of that. The expectations for RDR 2 are sky high.

Bioware is just now talking about a sequel to Dragon Age Inquisition and that game came out in 2014, it's way too early for them to even think about mentioning a sequel to Andromeda.

Their plans from jump were to do another trilogy in the Andromeda sandbox. They've hinted strongly that the title is shelved indefinitely (as in no sequel in another 3-4 years).

I definitely don't expect companies to put out new games every year, then you end up with shit like most of the Assassin's Creed games.

But Bioware (EA) definitely planned on at least a trilogy in the ME universe. And why not, since the original was a cash cow.

But they screwed the pooch by going cheap on it.

Sales are weird to me. Lots of selective outrage.

I have no idea how Street Fighter V is still going, for example. That game is bad and when it came out it was terrible. Certainly worse than the ones you listed and I like fighting games.

Batman Arkham Knight was also worse than the games you listed. The driving sections honestly feel like no one at all playtested the game and its maybe the worst open world sandbox game Ive ever played. But its Batman and its story is rock solid so....it gets a pass?

RDR2 will be fine. I didnt even expect it to come out this year, to be honest.

Heh. Yeah, there's always tons of outliers. I guess some genres have more 'passionate?' fans? I find RPG's to be like that more than some other genres. Also, I remember when some of the info on CIV 6 leaked out, and some people lost their minds because the artwork was too 'cartoony.'

I think RDR will be fine too, mostly because EA didn't buy the studio and start meddling in how the game will be created.

I hesitate to agree that I really do like the story and the universe and if the controls were at least average then it could be a top 5 game this gen.

But if I've played 160 vehicle games in my life then that game comes in 160th place in terms of controls.

After playing the first RDR again, I retract my statements.

It sucks. It's boring. It's a fucking horse riding simulator with artificial game time because you have to ride half way across the map to do fetch quests. Undead Nightmare is 3 quest types that you have to repeat over and over and over again. Not fun.

I'll wait to see if improvements are made in 2.

I think a lot of things in the new trailer suggest that they are looking at making the open world more interesting. They showed scenes with hunting, some swamps and some snow.

All games are wait and see with me at this juncture but I have pretty high hopes for this one.

Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad. RDR is one of the best games of the last 10 years

I'd be interested to know what games you consider the best. I thought the story was great but the gameplay is boring and repetitive at times.
Not online, but the SP. Too much redundant horse riding and tasks.

GTA 4 & 5, Bully: Scholarship, LA Noir, Max Payne 3 - are all better games imo from Rockstar alone

Witcher 3, Fallout New Vegas, MGS:V were much better open world games.
Just off the top of my head.

You don't have to ride horses. They had fast travel via the coaches. But riding the horses is a crucial part of the appeal though. They built a Western world and the time it takes to move around makes you really feel apart of it and thus connected to the story. Plus, you really notice a lot of finer details they made in the landscape design. It's not just me. RDR is widely held in high regard. You're an outlier here
