Who is your X? The go-to and split end, your Z, the quick speedy player, and Y, the slot.

There's a overhaul now, but I assumed Woods was slot and Goodwin and Watkins outsides, with Watkins X.

Watkins and Goodwin missed a ton of games. Woods was the main target. Hunter was the RZ "threat". Brandon Tate was the WR1 at one point. Walter Powell was the target leader for a few games.

Bottom line, even when all healthy, there will not be 3 receivers to trust for fantasy every week. Sammy was not used inside much, if at all last year... but last year has nothing to do with this year. New HC, new OC, and an entirely new WR group.

When Watkins is healthy, he's the deep threat, the main target, the RZ threat.
Philly Brown and Andre Holmes were brought in. I would assume Brown will be more utilized out of the slot, and Holmes as an outside guy.
Zay Jones is the rookie who can legitimately be expected to be WR2 in September.
Listenbee would be the 5th guy who has wheels, but that's about it.

I do not expect to see a 3-set receiver package on the field very often. I can only assume to see some kind of combination of a Panthers/Broncos/Texans/Ravens hybrid offense. The signing of two FB kind of confirms that.

X - Watkins
Z - Zay Jones
Slot - I'm not sure how often the Bills will use a slot. Could be some combination of Davis, Powell, and Tate )(for typical slot-style receivers), unless they decide to go big with Holmes (who otherwise will compete with Lewis and Listenbee for 4th/5th WR roles).

Holmes will probably take the Justin Hunter role of only being used in the redzone

question is what will happen when injuries hit?

Well, we might as well run some sort of triple option offense and never throw the football

Well, Rod Streater is now in the mix as well. Cut Kouandjio to make room for him today.

Streater is a decent receiver

we have a solid group of receivers now at least when all of them are healthy.

Kouandijo was another Whaley bust

Disagree on Cyrus; he was really showing improvement last year. That odd offseason event with him half-naked in a field had to be the reason for the move. Not ideal for a 2nd round pick to take that much development, but he was dinged up previously and finally healthy last year.

He still wasn't able to crack the starting lineup and when you're a 2nd round pick that makes you a bust.

Chiefs surprisingly released Jeremy Maclin yesterday

if we could sign him to a 1 year "prove it" deal we could get ahead of the curve and have more good receivers for when others get hurt, plus when all are healthy we will have 3 good receivers on the roster.

This was my immediate thought. Get Maclin in here to play the slot, where he excelled for the Eagles. Watkins/Jones/Maclin would be a huge improvement over whomever they are looking to throw out there as the slot this year. He will likely find better offers though, especially considering how little the Bills threw the ball last year.

McCoy is doing us some favors by trying to recruit him here, hopefully they are good enough friends that he comes here

McDermott is familiar is Maclin too

Another quality receiver is now available: Decker will either be traded or released this summer.

Maclin to the Ravens for 2 years, undisclosed.

So, maybe Decker then? Will the Bills deal with the Jets, or wait for his release?

He will be released

in the end I think Maclin preferred the Ravens because he would be the main receiver there and they will pass more than us

Hopefully we can find a way to sign Decker, he was pretty good before getting hurt last year

Decker is looking at surgery isn't he?

From June 6th:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Eric Decker has been medically cleared from his hip and shoulder surgeries.

It's quite the recovery. Decker had extensive hip and shoulder operations when he was injured in Week 3 last season. He was expected to face a rehab deep into summer, but Decker participated fully at OTAs. Now healthy, the Jets are looking to trade him in the next 72 hours or they will cut him. Decker likely prefers the latter so that he can pick his own destination, though he may not get the $14.75 million in salary he's due the next two years if that happens. The Titans and Ravens have been speculated as options.

Ravens reportedly don't have much cap space left for him after signing Maclin, but are still interested. Bills have the cap space to get a deal done, but do they want Decker?

Healthy in June and healthy in November are two very different realities.
