Well my league starts tomorrow and I haven't quite gotten things smoothed out yet but I feel like I'm close. They posted the schedule and handicaps this week and I don't know WTF scores they used. I was playing very well to close the year and whatever fuckin' program they use only holds the last few scores but I'm listed at a 1.8!!!!

For fuck's sake, none of the other 31 players are under 4.

I'm gonna get spanked the first few weeks~

Talk about giving the field the edge. Very kind of you. I don't care what anyone around here says about you... this proves you are a gentlemen!

I usually pay no attention to the strokes. We play at match and on some holes they don't even come into play during a match. The biggest drag is that they count toward the aggregate point and that's where they can sting ya.

League play...it's not the swiftest that always wins...I have a feeling you'll be right in the mix coming down the stretch if your index is that much lower than the field. I think even with USGA the last 10 scores might weigh the most.

Yeah, like I say the match stroke doesn't even count if someone makes a double. It's the aggregate point that gets tough.

We have one sandbagger who is a good player and won it the past two years. I'd love to see his scores over the season on the last two holes. He never seems to putt as well when he has a match put away.

Sack of shit.

Question...kinda rhetorical now, but in case it comes up again.

I try to hit a slight cut around a tree on a mound on my approach on a par 4....I over cut it and it was heading towards trees and hazard...like I said, there was a mound between me and the green so I couldn't see where the ball might have last crossed the margin of the hzd.

So...I decided to walk to the green and look along the right side. I didn't put a stopwatch on, but I did note the time when I started looking...5 mins past w/o finding the ball, so I declared my ball lost in the hzd and dropped in a reasonable area where I thought it should have gone in the hzd. I played a great 4th about 5' from the pin, made the putt.

After I played from the drop, this other guy finds my ball in the woods (but not in the hzd) about 20' or so ahead of where I actually dropped.

What's the ruling here?

Without Googling anything, I'm inclined to answer that the 5 minutes to look for it had expired so the hole is concluded but there's the lingering question, why did he continue to search for it?

The guy that found it was not my cart partner. He was just helping out to look. He was in the woods and apparently didn't hear me say, my 5 mins is up so I'm going to take a lateral drop and play. He found it within a min. or so of me hitting.

Long story short, I carded a 5 on the hole, citing 5 mins had expired. One guy (my cart partner) tried to challenge it stating my ball was found. He did hear me say my 5 mins was up and I was dropping, but somehow felt I should still have played the original ball. Didn't know what he was talking about.

I did research it yesterday and by rule...after 5 mins has elapsed, the original ball is to be abandoned if found.

I believe that's correct and you acted properly.

...and if you had a good lie and a clear shot, those guys wouldn't have been so insistent!

I knew I was covered on the 5 min rule. The shot I hit was probably 30 yds to a short sided pin...maybe 3 out of 50 chance to get it that close. imo that was his real motivation. Even playing 3 from where he found my original ball...that's a 6 every day of the week, and twice on Sunday for the avg. 12 hdcp player unless you make a 20-30' putt.

But on to the more important stuff.

How did you fare last evening?

It was 48 degrees and we had a downpour roll through so they cancelled. So I fared very welll having a few Stella drafts and catching up with all my buds I haven't seen since last fall.

Well I was pleasantly surprised by my opening week performance. I may have stated elsewhere that I closed very strong last year and so my opening handicap is a two. I've been hitting so many balls that I was getting all twisted up with swing changes. I made progress here and there but ultimately, I just have to stay out of my own way. I've played this 9 hole course about 6 times and only broke 40 once.

On the lengthy uphill par three third, I've worm-burned it into the creek 3 FUCKING TIMES!

Last night there was the usual back up on 3 and this time I clipped a smooth 5 wood to the center of the green with about 12 guys watching. I bogeyed that last hole which is always disappointing but all night I let all the swing thoughts go and I scored a 38 and won my match. The best part though...

We have a closest-to-the-pin on the par 3 5th. I was on the tee 140 out with a mild helping breeze. A perfect 9 iron for me. Well while waiting for the group on the green the wind shifted 180 into our faces. How many times do you skip walking back to the cart to change clubs? I went for my 8 iron and just smoothed it to 2' 5" to win the 34 bucks.

Dinner and drinks on the house so a good start to the year.

To golf or not to golf, that is the question.

It's 39 degrees, wind at 10-15 mph gusting to 30, and drizzle with rain in the immediate forecast.. But I'm bored and don't fell like going to the gym.

I like to shoot under 40 but not play when it's under 40!

You're a brave man to consider it.

Teed off at 8:04 a.m. this morning and it was just over 40 degrees. It warmed up to almost 60 by 10 a.m. when the sun finally peaked out, but never got any warmer.

Had a couple screwy holes on the front that cost me dearly, but played very well on the back and finished 47-40-87. Not bad for my 2nd full round.

I had a two weeks off after a weekend road trip with the wife and DNP the week prior so I was chomping at the bit this past weekend...2 guys from my reg. group went out of town to play in a two-man tourney and our 4th couldn't play...I walked on at one of the local tracks and got paired with 3 older (60+) guys...good players...44-44, a total mixed bag out there but a birdie, par, par finish saved a decent round.

This course has 3 par 5s, par 4s, and par 3s on the back...2 of the par 5s are short, you should have a decent birdie putt 90% of the time...I butchered both of them with bad drives and bogey and dbl. Made par on a 218 par 3, 14th, the 435 yd par 4 16th, and the 546 yd par 5 18th...3 of the hardest holes on the course...golf, you just never know.

So we had to play in brutal conditions on Wednesday. Temps in the 40s with HOWLING 20+ mph winds.

I played well and although I bogeyed the last hole to shoot 40, I canned a 12 footer to make nothing worse than a bogey all day so that was an accomplishment in that crap. I couldn't feel my fingers.

One amazing shot. Our par 4 6th was into the teeth of the wind. I got a drive out there and had about 165 left as did my partner. He took a 4 iron and came up short! So I aimed off 30+ yds left of the green with my 5 wood. I killed it into the wind and it soared up and got blown to the right.....friggin' thing was almost falling back toward us when it landed right smack in the middle of the green! Shit, I can't hit that green with a 9 iron and it would have taken dozens of balls to repeat that feat.

So I'm not sure 'cause there was a sub without a number so I think we took all three. I'm still a two and had to give 4 to a pretty decent player and was able to eek out a +1 win.

Good playing...sometimes the bad weather makes you focus just a tad more if you don't tap out and give in mentally.

I broke 80 (79) for the 1st time in 20 mph sustained winds....playing in a tourney, final round. Hit 6i approach into the wind from about 140 to birdie the 18th for the score.

Sub 50 deg though? Shot 40...that's golfing your ball there.

Played Sat. home course...nippy weather to start (52 deg) made worse because of a stiff wind (10-12) and gusty (17-18).

Front 40, back 46...not bad, but when I noted the charting this morning I left a lot out there.

Driving...13 holes...7 hit fairway or were in the rough. 2 were playable, one of those was helped by a tree, and the other was encumbered by trees forcing a low approach. So, 9 of 14 could be advanced.

3 balls lost in hazards, 1 one was a worm burner lost in an area of long grass not marked...all of these holes were dbl or worse except 1...The worst was back to back snow men to close out the round.

Approach...hit 5 GIR plus 8 AGIR (around with reasonable u&d chance)...of the 8 AGIR, 1 chip in birdie, 3 pars, the rest bogeys..so 50%.

Putting...14 front, 19 back included three 3 jacks.

Life of the weekend hack....still fun.
