Yea running off some his best recruiters cause he hired his buddies didn't have a thing to do with it right? I bet had Lonnie still had been on staff all year as the OC our rating would have been higher but no.. we had Wickline and now transition again in Spav, now I DO like those guys but there is a price to pay with transition and we paid a little, that's all it is , It will prob get better next year, another 30's to 45ish range. We need to hire a great recruiter with the extra coaching spot, 30-45 ish is ok but that's not going to win the Big12.

You bet Lonnie could have done better recruiting for a lame duck HC? He must be a hell of a recruiter!

Price to pay for coaching changes in Dec/Jan? You obviously don't know how recruiting works.

That is like reading Another's take on how the extension didn't seem to help recruiting for this year's class. Funny stuff...

This class looks alot like the classes of the past few years less a couple of 4 star recruits. Heavy on Wide Receivers and defensive backfield and light up front where we need more help.

Feel free to blame Lyons all you want, but throughout his tenure, Holgs has not produced a class worthy of the top 30 in 247 sports. With the JC transfers we have, this years roster will not be greatly affected. However, in the next couple of years, we will have to make up for the #38, #35, #39 and #55 ranked classes. Holgs will need to scour the JC ranks to get more players ready to step in the next couple of years.

The contract situation did hurt. I am sure the assistant coach turnover hurt us too. A great recruiter can overcome these obstacles. We see what Baylor did. We see what Maryland did in recruiting grounds that we have mined in the past. Holgs could sell his top 25 season, 10 wins, new contract and WVU to recruits. Baylor was able to do it with a sex scandal, new coach and potential NCAA sanctions on the horizon.

Holgs does more with less talent and has become a great game day coach, what he has never been is a great recruiter. We have a good base of players and could well end up in the top 3 of the conference again this year. If we want to do better, we need to attract better talent.

At least we have a really good basketball team we can follow.

Pretty thick bullshit right here.

You'll have to read the ESPN piece on reranking the 2013 class for the Big 12. Where did WVU finish?

You don't reap rewards in recruiting in this year's class with this year's 10 win season, or a recent contract extension. Those rewards won't be seen until the 2018 class. Relationships with this year's recruiting class started when these kids were sophomores and juniors in high school. By the time Dana received his extension... by the time WVU cemented its 10th win... most of these kids were already committed.

That's how the real world works for anyone who didn't know... looks like you are one who doesn't. Sorry...

Might want to tell Baylor and their new coach that came from Philly to Waco Texas how that "real world" bullcrap you spew works. They walked in and out recruited Dana in about a month .

Face it bb there is an art to recruiting and your boy aint no Picasso.

This is a great point to discuss. BU is located where? BU overcame some great odds to get 27 recruits in the midst of such bad times that are only getting worse. With the news that broke this week... right after NSD... how many of those recruits regret their recent decision? How many will ask to be released from their LOI like the '16 class?

We'll have to wait and see...

BU could offer early PT.

Just so we're clear that you understand, Dana doesn't recruit... his staff recruits. Dana closes... he's allowed 1 contact visit with a PSA.

Thanks to Shane, Dana's staff was given a monumental task. Hell... a new staff at WVU could have pulled a class nearly as good as this year's. No way to justify having a class ranked 57 now by 247.

You can't scream Dana ain't winning enough games... then say this class was per usual. Don't work that way...

Well First of all Baylor signed the majority of the scraps of what was left to recruit in Texas...

And you need to keep it in perspective if you put a lot of stock into these rankings...the National Champions had the #26th rated class...

What was more eye opening is that 20 of the top 50 kids in Texas went outside of the Big12..

that is the point the relationships that have gone on since kids were sophomores and juniors were gone with the assistant coaches recruiting the kids. I don't know if our turnover is because so Shane or other reasons. Money and contract length matter, but what is most important is job satisfaction. Being passed over for someone new, being the target of a temper tantrum on national TV can have an effect on the job you do. My guess is that if Seider Knew he was staying, Harley and two other 3 stars would be at WVU and we would be ranked in the mid 30s which is par for Holgerson and WVU.

Assistant coach retention is big for recruiting. These are the guys who are in the high schools making the contacts. When they change, kids get lost. I may be in some alternate reality to you, but that is the way I see it. The revolving door of assistants is quite concerning.

You're talking about two coaches. Galloway was a really good recruiter. Mitchell was not as important in this area.

Speaking of temper tantrums, have you watched Huggins, Saban, Brian Kelly, RichRod, or Coach K, just to name a few, coach during a game?

There's a bigger list than that...you can watch a few Meyer tantrums in the sidelines especially when he was at Florida..but you can go up and down the line in the SEC and find fiery coaches...

I like when DANA goes off..its well timed for the most part..and if he needs to get into a coaches grill..like when you send a player in the game when you know he's hurt and he immediately fumbles the ball...I would be disappointed if he didn't go off the deep end!

Kind of lost its effectiveness after taking 2-1/2 months to reply.
