Wow! was not expecting that. I actually dared to watch a few of the last points! Nole lost against Kyrgios. The draw just folded loaded half and unloaded one.

3 in a row for Fed. I hope he makes it 20 or so.

the thing about this one is that Federer actually rolled him.

Feds new approach, taking the ball inside the baseline, is such an amazing concept. He is cutting the ball off so quickly and taking away precious seconds from his opponent. I have been trying it on the court lately and it is so damn hard to get the ball on the rise like that. You have to live in no-man's land, and that is a damn hard concept to get over.

I didn't get to see the match. Fed rolled the buttpicker a couple of times. The worst was at the Master's Cup a few years ago. That was my favorite match between the two.

Roger should have done this a long time ago. He was a little quicker on his feet and it would have worked better for him. He's still one of the only guys who can make the SABR work.

people forget that when roger and rafa were #1/#2 for a couple of years in a row, they could only ever play in finals. that's where the bulk of their matches came, as #1 and #2.

on his own weakest surface, roger was ALWAYS getting to finals against rafa, and rafa won the majority of those.

but rafa failed time and time and time again to make hard court finals against roger, losing to the likes of Youzhny and Blake as Roger waited for him at the US Open final for years.

if rafa had ever been good enough to consistently make finals on his worst surface to meet #1 on the opposite side of the draw, the current h2h might look very different.

Rafa on clay was impossible when he was at his best. He never matched up to Feds on other surfaces and therefore isn't considered one of the best. He was a terrific thorn in Roger's side for many years and I appreciate him for that.

If Roger puts together a season for the ages, I would be happy. I still want the regulars to challenge him. I want a healthy Rafa, Djokovic, Wawrinka. I want to see a good tennis season unfold with Roger leading the way.

Yep. This win should leave the Fed-hating commentating company of Mats, Brad, The Mac Bros scratching their heads.

I don't hate Rafa the way @Vegas does. I like competitive tennis and I don't care who brings it.

also, I don't know if it was my shorts or my boxers last night, but I was doing my best Nadal impression and constantly picking a wedgie while on the court last night. The shorts were not as baggy as some of my other pairs, but they were still comfy outside of the wedgie part.

Did you sniff your fingers after picking?

Agree.

I haven't played in a while, but I know that when I try it, my reaction to the shot coming back isn't fast enough.

I also couldn't hit shots at 80-90mph like the pros could, so of course it was easier to get the balls I hit, back.

Yeah, but Rafa still beat Roger on outdoor hard courts too at non-majors.

Nadal is 8-4 on outdoor hard courts.

Agree with you about the USO in terms of majors, how it never happened.

Where do you think the USO ranks for Rafa as a surface between it and the AO, in terms of his desirability?

Pretty crazy in 2 of the 3 biggest tournaments during the first 3 months of the season, we get Fed/Rafa in the finals
