Well it is good to see the feud between BB and WVUDAD is still alive. I hope all you posters are well this season. So, 20-6 ranked in the top 10 3 different times during the year and we blow a 14 pt. lead. Big deal? Not really, in fact, probably the best thing that could have happened at this point in the year. Now you know that you have to finish the goddamn game. That means protecting the ball and making free throws. It certainly didn't help that we got 3.5 seconds to throw the ball in and they got 6 did it? Or the moving screens in OT? Or the phantom foul calls when a KU players strolled thru the lane? Again, it ain't no big deal because this is the crap you deal with on the road in the big 12. I am sure we will give them another nice healthy ass whoopin at home next year as well. Been so damn busy I have been able to breathe from work but found a moment to pop on here and spout off! God bless all of you and your families!

Good to see you on here, we have missed your post on the games.

Most of what is being said negative about Huggins is just throwing shit at Dad for more reaction.

DAD,

Here is a preview of the KU game in 2013...

West Virginia Football: Kansas game preview | isportsweb

Of note...

"West Virginia has 15 injured players on defense, including 10 who are out for the season according to defensive coordinator Keith Patterson."

"Quarterback Paul Millard replaced Clint Trickett after he was knocked out of the game last week. Millard went on to complete 16-of-32 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown. He turned the ball over four times (two fumbles, two interceptions)."

Dana was down to 1 QB. Paul Millard...

Paul was brought to WVU by Dana as a walk-on due to the critical shortage of QB's he was facing after he became WVU's OC. Geno Smith had no experience behind him. Billy recruited Brian Athey at QB... who never played a down at this position after HS.

Ford was gone for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. Clint was out of the KU game because of a concussion he suffered in the Texas loss.

Ineffective coaching...

Paul Millard was going to be WVU's savior? He was never supposed to be the starter. He had great limitations.

The kid was a TO machine... was going to somehow rise to occasion?

After replacing Clint in the Texas gm, I guess the 4 TO's he caused would help boost his confidence...

Why do you defend a coach who lost to Stephen F. Austin but crucify a coach who lost to Kansas?
SFA had a pretty damn good basketball team, they were much better than their seed, take a look at their season, rather than just the name on their jerseys, on the other hand Kansas is a HORRIBLE football team.

You might want to ask Charlie Strong what he would have to say about your BS assertion regarding losses to KU... or the need to win at season's end with a winning season or bowl on the line.
yup, fired for losing to Kansas, here we make excuses for it.

Don't forget about Brunetti and Johnson who were gone before DH took over.

With Holgs, I think there are several reasons why his "failure" to recruit a QB is so frustrating to fans. This is my thoughts on the matter.

Look, DH had a few QB recruits that didn't pan out in Childress, Crest, Sills...can't deny that. I believe that Crest was the biggest miss because he just wasn't better than Howard. Childress had the pedigree, tools, and size to be great but liked his social life better than school and football. Sills has battled lofty expectations since puberty and I read somewhere that he had some mechanics issues that caused him to never see the field as a QB at WVU. I think Holgs basically said, unless you fix this problem, you won't be my QB and that's when he made the decision to transfer. If he turns out to be a productive WR, I can forgive him for this one. I feel that, to an extent, Holgs has taken some unfair heat on this matter for a combination of reasons. First of all, being a first time head coach that was thrust into the spotlight unexpectedly. The FUTURE (not current...Geno was awesome) QB situation was a complete nightmare for any HC, let alone first time HC. There were no QB's ready to step in for Geno...literally...none. Brunetti, Athey, and Johnson all transferred out before he took over. He had to scramble to find a starter AND depth at the same time. Millard was just a warm body IMO. He was never supposed to be "the guy". He then had to rely on a D1 transfer and a JUCO transfer after Childress was injured and then eventually checked out. We all know that there are hundreds of hits and misses on recruits and always will be. The problem was, the QB situation had such little room for error that DH couldn't afford to make mistakes and he did to an extent and because he's the HC, he took all of the blame...whether fully warranted or not.

In all fairness, the crappy QB situation should've ended when Howard graduated. I think he should be the final product of the "bare QB cupboard" left behind by HCBS. Getting Grier was an ABSOLUTE Godsend for Holgs. Not only will it buy him time to groom Chugs and Saunders, but if Grier is a stud like so many predict he will be, success on the field breeds success on the recruiting trail. What this team does over the next two seasons coupled with hiring of Spatival, we should see some solid QB's signing on with the good guys.

And finally, Dad will like this part...I've been a Holgs sympathizer for a long time but as far as the QB situation goes, there should be no more excuses. With Grier onboard, he will have ample time to develop the talent on the current roster or find another gem over the next couple recruiting cycles.

I don't see anyone making excuses for losing to KU? I've never seen anyone make an excuse for the loss.

Charlie was an effective coach at UofL before he got to Texas. He won the powerful BE, defeated #3 UF in the Sugar Bowl, and now has a great gig at USF.

Ineffective coaches don't get hired as quickly as he did.

Yeah... you're spot on!!

Add to the QB quagmire the recruitment of Chavas Rawlins for the '13 class who enrolled at WVU early, then left after the spring semester... similar to Athey. He cited the loss of his lead recruiter... Jake Spavital... the QB coach at the time... as the main reason for leaving the WVU football program. However, it was later mentioned he was going to become a new daddy and wanted to be closer to home. Dana recruited him to be an athlete, and told him he'd give him the opportunity to compete for QB time... similar to Sills.

I've read many reports claiming Sills throwing mechanics caused severe accuracy issues. I also read Dana told Sills and his daddy he would not play QB at WVU; however, he told him he had a great chance to play in the NFL at WR. Both player and father wanted to keep the QB dream alive... hence the transfer to JUCO.

Obviously, they have decided to give up the dream of playing QB... and hope Dana can continue to develop his WR skills to keep the dream of becoming an NFL player alive.

That is a complete joke!

SFA was better than their seed? Really?

Look at SFA's regular season results... like you request. Note the losses.

42 points to Baylor.
10 pt loss to N. Iowa (#79 BPI, #73 RPI).
7 pt loss to Arizona St (#114 BPI, #98 RPI).

In 2013, WVU was a horrible football team. It was one of the youngest teams in FBS, and decimated by injury.

WVU finished 2-7 IC. KU finished 1-8.

SFA was a champion of a weak low major. They played a SOS ranked #275.

Based on the seeding, we had the better team. A #14 seed beating a #3 seed. Isn't WVU the better team? What gives?

Don't forget, bb, he is one of the ones that believe WVU was an elite program that could get a head coach at the drop of a hat. I gues we could have fired Dana and bring in Urban Meyers or a MAC coach. The other guy wants Doc back. No Balls could have gotten rid of Dana and brought in Les Miles at the end of this season which should have satisfied both Poppy and Rusher. Wonder what No Balls sees in Dana?

I'm assuming DH knew this when he offered Sills and maybe it was something that he thought he could correct but couldn't? His upside was tremendous with his size, athleticism, and football IQ and maybe he took a chance. I've read several times that even though QB's fix there mechanics during practice but they tend to revert back to their old habits in live action
