Well that GPA hasn't hurt Stanford has it?

Yes and no. It definitely hasn't stopped them from the longest period of sustained success in their history, but I believe they have also maxed out their success. So, from that standpoint, it has hurt them in that they aren't able to land those 2 or 3 difference makers that could make NC contenders.

Oregon is not a football school. The "rabid fan base" has already decreased to the point where they really aren't even the semi-nuesence they used to be. It takes longer than a decade of above average play to create a true culture.
Do you just close your eyes and type on the keyboard?

Haven't you heard?

Football is life at Oregon.

I'll be the first to admit at this point no one knows where Kelly will go (except no more pro), so anything anyone including me is a crapshoot. I also admit he could sit on his ass for a year or two and pick and choose.

But the man DOES have something to prove. he screwed up big time with both pro jobs and before his name becomes an asterick in college football history, he'd be wise to get something while the goings good. And I don't see him going anywhere except the PAC. And while northern California isn't the exact same area for recruiting as Oregon was, it's close enough and he'd do well. Keely's forte is recruiting lesser talent and making them better. Granted, he got an occasional 5 star recruit, he by and large took lesser talent and coached them to be great talent. He could get a better school in the PAC if he sat on his ass and waited, but that's a huge crapshoot. Waiting too long and the recruits will start going Chip who?

Not sure the goings that good for him right now. He's been fired from his last 2 jobs and from the sound of it, everyone hated him at both places. Apparently, even his players.

Pete Carroll has said that the year he took off between getting fired by the Patriots and hired by USC was the best thing he ever did. It gave him a chance to take a look at his coaching philosophy and approach future jobs with a little different perspective.

The pros don't ever give you the control that college does---just ask Jim Harbaugh. BOTH the Arizona teams may be in the hunt for a new HC after next year BUT he'd be better off going with CAL now assuming the money's right

Working out the bonuses for winning the CFP. Cal offered $26.50 and a 6 month lease on a 2009 Chevy Cruze.

Chips people are looking it over.

Natty on a platter.

I'm all for him going to Cal. If for no other reason than the epic OD meltdown that would ensue. :dhd:

One of 2 things happens.
Chip succeeds and OD tells us how he told us so and how Oregon messed up letting him get away.
Chip fails but its because he is at Cal (or other school) and not Oregon

Chip isn't sneaking up on people with his shtick anymore. He can still do his up tempo stuff, but he can't push it like he did before and catch people off guard so defense wasn't even a thought. Oregon couldn't win it all with Chip and they couldnt win it with a Heisman QB using that type of play. The issue is Chips offense is a detriment to his defense and he still has yet to figure out the right balance. Some school will hire him but it will be more experimenting and probably more losing. You've got plenty of options now if you're a player who excels in an up tempo offense.

The main reason Chip wouldn't be as successful is not only has the better elements of his offense been copied and so it just doesn't have the same impact on catching defenses off guard, but now so many of those previously passed up smaller speedsters they were building a team around are far more popular and being picked up more by bigger programs. Add that a lot of their ability to load up with depth was due to USC, UW, and the other programs capable of drawing off some of that regional talent were down while they were building that up and now they have a LOT more competition for west coast talent. They really only had Stanford opposing them and now they still have Stanford AND UW/USC are back to drawing high level talent.

I honestly think Chip was the right guy at the right time with the perfect storm and none of that would be valid today if he went back there, more or less can he duplicate it at another program.

But at the same time he did it for 4 years. you would think by the 4th year the opponents would have figured it out

I know UW was slow to adapt to it and so were quite a few others. Didn't face it enough to dedicate the resources needed to get your defense to be able to deal with that light speed personnel changes and the rest of it. It actually took Sark employing some of the HUNH for his own offense to start to make headway.

Now so many run elements of the HUNH that whether your team does or not you still have to spend time in practice working on it because you will see it quite a few times every season.

And again, this was at a time when USC and UW were down programs. If both had the level of athlete they do today those scores wouldn't have been so lopsided. It wasn't just adapting to it. Oregon had superior athletes because those other two were not pulling in the same caliber of players.

Hell, for that same time frame both zona schools were kicking UW's ass as well and they weren't running exotic offenses.

He should hold out for a Volt

Oh, a counter-offer. That's what we Hooplans - I'm a Hooplan - we Hooplans call that a counter-offer.
This is a tough decision here. Hold out for a Volt. Let me think... I could use a good Volt, I'll be very honest with you... nah, I think I'll just go with the Cruze.
