I credit Clemson's defense. Bama was moving on them effectively in the first half, but the Tigers made some effective halftime adjustments and all but forced Bama into being one-dimensional in the second half, resulting in multiple three-and-outs. Doesn't matter how good Bama's defense is - if you keep them on the field too long, they get worn down and vulnerable.

I was going to say the same thing. Every time Alabama looked to be taking the game over with consecutive stops or a fumble recovery Clemson's defense kept them in the game.

Sucks but yeah...if ya gotta go to work it's best not to look like I did this morning. I'm glad I hung in there.

I just meant, it was an awful day today that I wish I called out. But yeah you are right not the best to show up looking hung-over and like you haven't slept in days

14 points off illegal pick plays.
SMFH!!! Damn quit your crying. It wasn't an illegal pick play. It's not illegal, unless the refs call it. Did you have the time to dissect every play of the game and see how many penalties coulda, shoulda or woulda been called. There was holding going on all night that was never called.

woud've been a better game if they called the 2 illegal picks.
Did you notice the holding (that wasn't called) during Hurts' TD with 2 minute to go?

Uhhh, just because they missed it doesn't mean it wasn't illegal.

And I'm the guy who wants them to call holding way more in the NFL and NCAA levels.

But they won't, because it would not only hurt offenses, it would get QBs hit way more than they already are.

So they give them this mythical rule that you can hold inside the shoulder pads, even though it's actually holding.

Teams and players would adjust eventually. But you'd have some very ugly, laundry ridden games early on.

Well this is Dabo Swinney's view of the play you are talking about.

"Clemson coach Dabo Swinney wanted to clear up one item from Monday’s 35-31 victory over Alabama in the College Football Playoff championship game.

The game-winning play in the final second, when Tigers wide receiver Hunter Renfrow worked his way open after crossing paths with the outside receiver, should have produced in a flag from the Big 12 crew.

On Alabama.

“It should have been defensive pass interference,” Swinney said on Tuesday. “Yes, it’s a rub play, it’s a pick play.”

The Clemson wide receiver, Artavis Scott, made contact with Tide safety Ronnie Harrison and cornerback Tony Brown didn’t get to Renfrow in time.

“Artavis was actually trying to go pick the guy (Brown), but he couldn’t get there because he got tackled,” Swinney said. “We never really got a chance to rub the guy.”

NCAA rules state that players cannot exhibit "an obvious intent to impede" a defender on a pass play. Here's the rub, though: Officials must decide in an instant whether that intent to impede is obvious or not and do so on a play that can look like it has devolved into disarray. It's a pure judgment call that isn't reviewable, just like holding or defensive pass interference.

Yes. But that just means they missed it. Twice.

And clearly those misses mattered.

Maybe the refs didn't think it was a penalty "twice". "It's a pure judgment call that isn't reviewable, just like holding or defensive pass interference".

Clearly they thought that.

And clearly they were wrong. No question both of those were illegal picks.

LOL, come on you are not a college football referee. It's just your opinion that there should have been two penalties on those supposed pick plays. Hell I could sit here and go through the tape of that game and dissect every play and say there should/could have been several penalties that were not called.

Clemson. The hire: Swinney, who was recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach until Tommy Bowden was whacked in midseason. The grade: D-plus.
Swinney was part and parcel of a failed season, but somehow got a promotion out of the deal. Who knew that beating Duke and Virginia could lead to such ample rewards? Clemson fans loved the fact that the Tigers closed the regular season by beating rival South Carolina. But hey, Bowden beat the Gamecocks seven times in nine tries and look where that got him. Swinney has the same thing going for him that Sarkisian has at Washington: the in-conference competition in the ACC isn't that stiff.

No need to call a pick play...fucking Tony Brown was out of position all night long, no big surprise they picked on him for the win, they were picking on him all night long. Offensive coordinators tend to do that when your the defensive back that is asking everybody on the defense where you are supposed to be on every single fucking play. I have a hard time believing he was our best option on the field...worthless fuck.
