Heading to Cincy....I am not sure I like this, I imagine he wanted more, but with Wickline there did not get it. I think he has done a real good job for us, Cincy is getting a good coach.

Not sure Wickline is worth it...

Maybe they bring in a full time special teams coach??

Crook was on the way out once Wickline was hired, no sense having two Oline coaches. I hope Crook does well but Wickline has produced good run games at several stops now and is a better asset right now than Crook (again not bashing RC, I think his time will come).

We need a ST coach and preferably one that can recruit like some of our other staff members.
Anyone know if the NCAA changed a rule where every program can add one more coach on the staff now if they wish? I thought I read that somewhere but may be mistaken.

I didn't understand the Wickline hire in the first place. To me, it seemed like a message was being sent to Crook. As an outsider, I thought Crook did a good job with his band of misfits. He brought in some really good recruits too. He did a great recruiting job in Ohio competing with the likes of tOSU and PSU.

Pass protection has been an ongoing issue. IMO, that is why Wickline is at WVU. He had some really strong OL's at Okie St. WVU could not pass pro out of its zone blocking scheme under Crook. He was a power guy.

I'm no expert, but if the OL's footwork or gap control tips off the DL on what kind of play is coming... it hurts. Under Crook, the offense had to abandon zone pass pro.

How many passing attempts did WVU have in the Texas game in '15? Prior to the game, Dana said he would not test the Texas pass rush. The OU game saw Skyler nearly decapitated like Clint the previous year.

Apparently, this has been in the works for awhile.

I'm reading a lot of speculation that Dana will hire a QB coach.

Jake Spavital may be available soon...

Experience and an OC are the biggest differences, and Dana being familiar with him too. I think Cincy got a good one in Crook too but we still have the better of the two at this point... on paper anyway.

I thought he was named interim coach at Cal?

On paper we did not show much improvement on offense, so I still am not sure he is worth the trade off. We will see.

Yea but at the same time we had a NFL RB in the backfield last year and avoided some injuries too, our RB's got bit early and often by the injury bug this year so... :noidea:might be the difference, might not.

Wickline has been a part of some very good offenses and has the better bio than Crook for sure but Crook is solid and was a good fit at/for WVU imo so I agree, time will tell but at the same time its exciting thinking about what a guy like this paired with Dana's offensive mind can possibly do with the weapons we have moving forward (cant help but think about their Okie State days together) on that side of the ball. The move also frees up a spot for a possible QB coach, one that wouldn't need to be the OC, one that is a good recruiter of the position as well preferably.Football - WVU Athletics
