I'm happy Seattle is a top 10 during the time referenced in the article.
It wasn't that long ago it would have been "no way" Seattle is a top 10 anything.

With the amount of smack talk by the 12s I would've thought they would've been much much higher. Thank goodness for ties otherwise they may not have cracked top 10.

In your head.

Seattle has owned the NFCW since the realignment - four teams have really crushed their divisions in that time-frame: Patriots, Packers, Colts and Seahawks.

Parity is for commies.

I read the entire thread. I noticed you commented on the Jets and the AFCE. Based on your comments it appeared you were trying to degrade the level of comp in the division. I was just letting you and the other posters know there really isn't that big of a difference:suds:

I was referring back to post #3 from the OP and point #2

Jeff Fisher helped inflate those no#s. They prob would have had only 45 with an average to below coach
Fisher went 31-45-1 as Rams coach. The other coaches went 15-68.... that actually makes me think a shit ton better of Fisher lol

Atlanta has 2 4-12 seasons in the last 10 years and still finished 10th. A little higher than I would've thought

true then I would have to get off the Bandwagon and make Alabama my only team. No wait I used to watch them when they were 1-15 and 2-14. They probably had the worst record in the 70's and 80's and middle in 90's
70s: 14th
80s: 13th
90s: 23rd

And if you meant "70s and 80s combined", from 1970-1989 they are ranked 13th.

In the Super Bowl era, the Pats have gone from 26th overall from 1966-2000 to 6th overall from 1966-2016.

A few things that stood out to me:
  • The AFC East really does suck, outside of the Patriots. The Jets were the second best team, and they finished 21st.
Average wins for the bottom 3 teams in each division in that 10 year period:

NFC East: 79.33
NFC South: 78.00
AFC North: 73.67
NFC North: 72.33
AFC West: 71.67
AFC East: 70.33
AFC South: 69.33
NFC West: 69.67

But if you take those same teams, and average their wins outside of the division, here are the average wins:

NFC East: 51.00
NFC South: 49.50
AFC North: 47.83
NFC North: 47.00
AFC East: 46.00
AFC South: 44.00
AFC West: 43.67
NFC West: 42.33

Tom Brady and Chad Pennington own the AFC East.

I knew that comment about the AFC East would trigger all the Patriots fans. Guys it's ok to admit that your divisional competition sucked, outside of the Jets a couple of years.

And yet the Patriots have a better record outside the division than in it.:thumb:

But then the Jets still suck the rest of the season as well after those 2 games. This means the talent may not be abundant on the Jets ranked 21 or the other 2 teams in the conference ranked lower than the 21st ranked Jets.

Another way to look at it would be one reason the Pats have a few more wins would be because they are in the AFCE

But that doesn't explain why their record is better outiside the division.

Good thing you have google. I watched all the games and went to them, so my memory is different than facts
