We had five opponents on our schedule that won at least 9 games this year. Any yall know if that's ever happened before at WVU in football?

Good article, but not great, seemed to sum it up rather well.

In '93, WVU played four 9-3 teams in the regular season... beat all 4. Lost to UF (11-2) in the Sugar.

WVU finished 4-1 vs. year end ranked teams that season. Defeated #13 BC, #15 Miami, #22 VT and #24 UL.

Last year WVU played 9-4 Georgia Southern, 11-2 OU, 10-3 Okie St, 10-3 BU and 11-2 TCU.

My best guess is that WVU is a 7-8 win max team unless the challenges of the schedule are lined up favorably like this past year.

WVU 70 Clemson 33. 5 years have passed and look at how those two programs have progressed. That year holes had his best class at 26 Clemson pulled in at 12.

Holgerson looked like the better coach that day.

I'll take 10 wins any year, but will always want more.

Ill take the 10 wins too but I also know that we had some very fortunate breaks for that to happen but again, Ill take it, those things happen to all teams that have good years...and bad too when it goes south.

Clemson has some advantages over us but they made a strong commitment to recruiting and it has paid off.
IMO WVU be it coach, administration or a combo of both havn't made the kind of commitment that they should to get WVU to the next level, at least not yet.

What kind of commitment should they make that they haven't made or not on list to address? just curious...

To start with, keep the same coaches for a few years, that one year coach contract thing is stupid......

How many different coaches have we had since Holgerson has been here? There have been 4 different D coordinators.

Signing asst coaches long term is a two edged sword, look at Efore, we paid him his last year at a DC rate to keep the water jugs full....asst coach turnover isnt a deal killer, and isnt a team detriment, look at the asst coach turnover at Alabama and Ohio State, where BTW, most assts are on a two year deal. Asst football coaches move around a ton, the guys who hitch themselves to a particular HC or school are pretty rare, Fraud has his crew that followed him around, and a few others, but it is the exception.

When you're a Myers or Saban, you can handpick your assistants. Kids spend more time with their position and assistant coaches but if there isn't support for the HC, then chances are the assistants are in jeapordy. I agree with you in some respects, the assistants should not be signed any longer than the the HC which could be something already addressed in the assistant coaches contract.

Mad, asst coaches are very fluid at nearly all schools, regardless of who the HC is, I doubt that many want long term contracts, in case a better gig comes along. Many position coaches move to a different school every year, for many different reasons, some lateral moves, some with better pay, some real promotions. Two years is the right contract for assts, IMO. I could make an exception for a guy who was your HCIW, or was an absolute key to your offense, had been there for years, etc, I would also say that young unproven guys should be year to year.

Has this not been addressed...searching for right mix is ok and the exodus last year can be pointed to contracts. I have not seen anything that concerns me that they are not committed to recruiting. EX...they have not let Sieder go anywhere. Gibson has been locked up.

Its just funny how everyone here just misses the the NEON SIGN that was stated in that article and just dismisses it....It's the 9th time in PROGRAM HISTORY that the team has posted a 10 win season...9 TIMES!!!!...in 100 PLUS YEARS OF THE PROGRAM!...news flash...West Virginia is a nice program...its never going to be an elite program!...and I've got over 100 years of historical data to support that comment..this program will do what it has always done..have a big season every 5 years or so...its reality...to think there is ever a coach that could come in here and consistently have this program challenge for a title year in and year out is just nonsense..remember...Bobby Bowden couldn't even get it done..you need talent...you need elite talent...that's what beat Wv on Wednesday...it was a cold dose of reality of what Miami can get on campus and what Wv can recruit..

You check the math on their paychecks recently brother?...nothing wrong with a high 6 figure salary in Morgantown Wv..why would they look to move if they have stability...maybe a grad assistant or a AC that has a chance at a coordinators job...but not a lateral..

Spend more money overall imho on assistants (special teams hire was a joke) for one thing, hire a good recruiter/coach for the QB position, or I think it would be a good move to move Seider to that spot and hire another RB coach. Just a stronger commitment overall financially but Id start with a stronger staff around Dana and that would take money.
Personally Id change the defense to a more conventional defense to help recruiting, not saying we would have to get rid of Gibby but I think he could coach a conventional defense just as well as the 3-3-5. Its hard enough to recruit at WVU, we don't need to thin the pool even more by running the gimmick defense that kids aren't familiar with. I know that would take some balls as far as a commitment by the staff and AD/fan base because we would have to develop some kids for a few years but imo it would be worth it in the long run.

I don't think we missed the point that it was a good season,it absolutely was. I think (at least I do) that we see the potential to be even better. I read an article earlier in the season when Dana was being mentioned for the LSU job and one of their people mentioned him and ask "what could he do with better (LSU type of) talent around him (every program should be so lucky right now right?)?"
It got me thinking, good point, what could he do with better talent here and how can we go about getting them? Guy won 10 games with a lot of negativity going on, now that its over what can he do with a full commitment from the AD/school and a talented/experienced staff in place around him? I think we can get to another level, now does that mean I think that we can get to what LSU has been bringing in every year no, I understand that we wont be doing that but I DO think that we can be better in the recruiting area and after seeing Dana win 10 with a QB that didn't have any D1 offers as a QB at all and prob wouldn't have started at any other Big12 team other than maybe KU, a RB in Shell that many thought was just a talented head case when he came here that didn't fit our offense, a LB playing NT in the defense ect. ect..... I think we can do even better but, maybe its just me:noidea:
