More positive Kelly said Elko will pick his staff. Elston and light look to be the only locks to come back on the D side of coaches

But seriously do you guys think Notre Dame landed this guy because of what is going on at Wake Forest, Louisville and VT? Just wondering...?

Not sure what you mean, do you mean the only reason he left Wake is because of what's happening?

Hell no, he left Wake because Wake is Wake and Notre Dame is Notre Dame. el oh el

EDIT: 7,000!

That's too bad. Gilmore is a good DL coach.

Info
Elko: Defense: 4-2-5 Scheme with a sprinkle of 3-4
Elko relies on movement and aggressive play. The advantage is Elko’s ability to use false flags almost every down, making it difficult for opposing quarterbacks to reach which player is going to drop and which are going to blitz. Making it even harder to attack is Elko’s use of hybrid players that are able to fit into multiple roles. ND has multiple guys that fit this. Elko’s concepts create a simplistic, aggressive approach with conservative principles.
The 4-2-5 fits with what Notre Dame returns next season and with recent recruiting trends. Inexperience at the defensive line, but huge numbers returning at defensive back and linebacker. The scheme has the ability to hide deficiencies at the defensive line.

With five defensive backs, guys like Troy Pride, Jalen Elliott, Devin Studstill, Julian Love, Nick Watkins, Shaun Crawford, and Donte Vaughn, and others will be the focal point. Best two cover corners will play outside. Hybrid backers like Spencer Perry, Drue Tranquill, and DJ Morgan will benefit playing around the line of scrimmage instead of in coverage. There will be lanes for Morgan, and he must deliver. Tevon Coney and Asmar Bilal will be in the mix as well, but their minutes will depend on the front and personnel. In true 4-2-5 situations, only one other will play alongside Morgan

Get comfortable with an array of pressure on 3rd down. Expect an overloaded gap by the defensive line, or a Mike/Sam twist. Elko’s goal is to get it down with 5 or 6 man rush, occasionally bring a secondary blitzer. Versatility within the scheme allows Elko to still play 4-3 personnel if needed. Combos of both man to man coverage and zone concepts.

Overall Outlook: I think his scheme will work at ND because we do have a lot of Hybrid players. The Positive is we have more athletes on the field to make plays. The negative I see is we will get frustrated at times because we are going to be giving up yards and our Run D wont be great in a 4-2-5 package. I think our Run D will be good in the red zone because his scheme easily can change into a 4-3. I think ND Players are going to like this but Dline will struggle a little and LBs wont be happy because there are only 2-4 man rotation instead of a 4-6 man rotation.

Player most Important to the D next Year: N. Morgan MLB. If he Has a big year I think ND D will be ok if he struggles the D will struggle. Everything I read said the main MLB is very important in this D. He needs a season like this: 98 total tackles, 19 for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles.

Rumors of New Coaches and Old Coaches.
-Light looks like he is staying
-Elston looks like he will stay and coach Dline.
- Biggest News we are hearing ND will land Brian Polian returns as Special Teams Coach. This is Big for ND. 1st off he is really good special teams coach and a very good recruiter. (He landed Manti Teo)
- Elko will bring Clark Lea and coach the LB's.
-Gilmore is out
-Look for ND to go after Vince Marrow as TE coach
-Kelly taking on full duty of the Offense. Will look into a QB/OC type coach. Some one he can groom as OC.
