Well as we all know... and probably all thankful that it's the offseason. I thought it would be a good idea to have a official off-season thread for all things news, staff, and just general updates.

Not sure if you guys want this but I thought it would be a good idea!

I wont be on as much guys. Its been fun talking to you guys but I just lost a lot of respect for this site. There are some good Admin and some bad ones. I got banned for 6 days because I had a disagreement with one of them. I got no reason why I got banned when the admin was cursing or name calling at me. So I just wanted to say bye and its been fun. Again not talking bad about this site. Its a fun site but some ruin it for others. I like this site but lost respect for it.

Yeah but I go on the NBA board and 49ers board. Im all over the place on this site. I think I will stay off the main boards just go to the team boards. I will finish up the game stat. I will post once in awhile. I enjoyed talking football with you guys. Even if we disagree or agree its usually good talk. This ND board is one of the best. U dont see much name calling and people flipping out.

The ignore button is a powerful tool. I realized that a long time ago when I came back. I ignored a certain Admin, ignored a bunch of clueless trolls. I hardly use main boards. Give it a shot before you take off. I'll miss your recruiting threads....

No kidding I wonder who we will get... well knowing Kelly we keep the Interim
Here's my thoughts on Kelly. It seems that since its been put out there that he's been looking for somewhere else, and its been an ongoing thing over a couple of years, I don't know how he begins to rehabilitate himself with the fans. Even if he puts on a good show and says how committed he is to winning at ND, deep down we all know he wants out.

We'll know just how committed he is by how much he steps up in recruiting. It seems over the last couple of years, he's had less direct involvement with that. I suppose its a good sign he's on the road doing in homes, etc., but he needs to stay on some of these guys and get some hits, otherwise if he's just going through the motions he should go.

Also, if the staff remains almost entirely intact, that's another bad sign. Its obvious things need to change, but nobody's going to change who they are, so you need to bring in those with a different philosophy.

I always thought the criticism of Longo was overblown, until I learned that McFlinchy, er I mean McGlinchey, was below 300 lbs. Our 6'8" AA prospect Left Tackle was less than 300 lbs. Unacceptable. McGovern lost weight during the year too. This should never happen, especially to your offensive line and certainly not to your marquee OL players.

Then I hear guys like Will Fuller specifically crediting Longo for making them faster. We all know how that turned out for Fuller. But it seems there are serious problems with our S & C program (all the injuries over the last 2-3 years too). But this is another Kelly choosing loyalty over winning situation. Longo's his guy, just like BVG was.

So, I think the DC had better come from outside. That DC should also be allowed to choose his staff as well, which unfortunately means some of our position coaches may end up going. I'd like to see Lyght and Gilmore stay, I couldn't care less about the rest of the defensive staff. On offense, I'd like Heistand, Denson and Sanford to stay. Again, couldn't care less about the rest of them. I'd prefer Sanford get full control of OC, and Denbrock handle WR's. Denbrock does well at that position and is a hell of a recruiter. As for the rest of the offense, don't really care.

I won't lie I honestly think Kelly is a good coach... just not for Notre Dame. I could see him going anywhere else and being decent. He is a good recruiter (just not anymore at ND). I agree on the DC needing to choose the staff but I highly doubt that would happen.

I think he's been punching above his weight class since Cincinnati. A mid-major Div. 1 program is probably his ceiling. He can get them to overachieve. I don't think he can coach at a major Div. 1 program.

His inability to self-assess and adapt on the fly keeps him from succeeding at the highest levels of the sport.

That said, I think he'll leave the program more stable than when he found it, but the longer he stays, the more diminishing those returns will be.

For all we know he could still be gone by this offseason. The AD for Notre Dame has repeatedly said he has confidence in Kelly. Which we all know is a bad sign for a coach.

I can't imagine they'd allow him to do in-homes (or that he'd waste his own time doing them) if he was in any danger of being fired.

The problem is, and this is why we won't know who the DC is until probably mid-January, is that the top candidates are all still coaching in bowl games. They're not going to leave to interview at ND, nor tip their hands to their current employer that they're looking elsewhere. We're going to have to wait until the bowl games are over before anything for certain will happen. Which also means that recruits will be languishing for that result as well, and by the time this gets sorted out, we're into the dead period, so the new guy won't be able to recruit directly.

think Kelly is a good coach but not at the level ND needs. ND isnt cincy where u can have 1-2 ok to bad season with in a 4 year span. I can live with 1 avg season every 4 years. 2 needs to be in playoff talks and 1 in main bowl talks. Thats how I see it at ND. He is struggling to be consistent at ND year in and year out.

Well from some of what I've been reading Notre Dame could be adding two 4 star Defensive players soon in Simmons and Paschal. I've also read that Notre Dame is very high on another 4 star CB Thomas Graham Jr list of teams and considering the other finalists are suppose to be Arizona (DB coach was either fired or left) and Oregon (fired coach) Notre Dame is much more stable as surprising as that is and with a better DC it should only help.

Wake Forest DC maybe not too too bad, if the guy can coach and get the most out of the the players it doesn't have to be a splash hire.
