Do you guys think that the Big 10 being strong this year is just a yearly trend or will this trend last for awhile? Guys like Meyer, Dantonio, Chryst and Harbaugh seem to be making this conference more competitive. I look on reddit/cfb and I see that a lot of people linking articles about this. I know recruiting isn't fully there yet with the entire conference, but do you feel like that is on the uptick as well? What I mean by this is will the Wisconsins and MSUs of the world start consistently landing top 10/15 classes like the Georgia and Tennessee used to if the latter programs trend downward?

This Big 10 was much better in the 90s than they were in the early to mid 2000s so I was just wondering that maybe it can go back to that era?

I also see other factors like FSU and Clemson being strong along with better B1G programs as being the reason the coaching and talent has been cannibalized a bit from the SEC(particularly the east)

The Big 10 being strong this year is really helping Ohio State as far as possibly getting in the playoff with a loss and no conf championship. If that trend continues, I sure hope it continues

However, it's been a couple years now I've noticed people talking about the conference trending up. Some great coaching hires have been made, a lot of facility upgrades and money is flowing. Also, competition, started with Meyer and now Harbaugh. They are forcing other programs to keep up which IMO is why you saw/see the lower tier SEC schools be so good

Yeah Harbaugh and Meyer is not the only reason I brought this up. I feel like other programs are stepping it up as well. Meyer going to OSU was huge and I felt like other programs decided to take a cue from Ohio State. I also feel like these are the same reasons the SEC is suffering with Saban. A lot of programs there are fumbling around trying to one up Bama, but are missing with some of their hires whereas it seems like a lot of the B1G is hitting with theirs. Dantonio at MSU helps as well because they are starting to step up recruiting. It just looks like a lot of schools are building a solid foundation granted all the coaching won't help as much unless you step up the recruitment trail. I know OSU has(Meyer is destroying Tressell's recruiting), Michigan seems to be on par with the Carr years if not better, and Penn State could be trending upwards as well along with previously mentioning MSU.

Long term I just don't see the B1G competing on a recruiting level. The best players still come from the south, Texas, and Cali. The SEC, PAC, and Big12 all being down has helped boost our perception as well.

I hope we do continue to be near the top and we keep the good coaches around while lesser schools like Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois build up something at least respectable.

Do you think a third school in the B1G could eventually compete with OSU and Michigan in recruiting? Penn State or Wisconsin?

I'd think Penn State would have the best chance, at least historically. But you'd have to pay me good money to go play for the pedsters.

Maryland is shockingly having a good recruiting class as well. They are in a great talent bed but Durkin didn't do anything special this year.

Penn State or Nebraska probably have the best shot.

Nebraska did have 1 monster recruiting class under Bill Callahan back when Rivals was still available. It was on par with FSU or USC. I can only imagine what Osborne did when Oklahoma was down in the 90s.

If you look back at Nebraska's history they have had some pretty bad periods of football, then all of a sudden they bounce back and dominate for a period. I think bc of their history, they could compete with the current elite of college football
