Speight lost the game. 2 ints, pick 6, fumble at the goal line. I think the suckeye fans should praise Speight for his contributions towards their win..

Not that I'm a big defender of his, but Speight did things to help us win and things that contributed to the loss. What I'm more angry about is the officiating. They missed call after call that should have gone against the home team. Some of the big ones came in OT. They missed a PI on a 3rd down pass. Missed a holding call on 3rd and long that set up 4th and 1. And, I'm still saying he was short of the first.

Honestly, I'm more concerned about the OL that was left to us. Kalis was beat like a red-headed step child nearly all game. He failed to pick up 5McMillan on the blitz that caused the pick 6 and hasn't been very good at opening holes to run. Once again, we have a chance to ice the game with a few first downs and failed to do so.

We got 1 5 star and 4 high 4 star players in our favor through recruiting on the OL along with several from last class. I think we will be fine. Hoke didn't get many good offensive linemen except Kalis whom was a bust.

I hope you're right. Bad plays at the QB position could be irrelevant in our two losses if we just run the ball effectively (and don't give up a sack on 3rd down) and kill the clock. I'm looking forward to the day when out offense is getting first downs and running out the clock.

It was the kid's first year as starter, and he was playing hurt. Not mention not everything was on Speight. Consider the pick-six, he was rushed as Smith missed picking up the block on a blitzing line-backer. And best of all, he was able to shrug off the mistake and drive down for a score, that is something that cannot be taught.

What pisses me off more is the line judge coming from the other side of the field to overrule the line judge who had the better vantage point and spotted the ball damn near a half yard past what they needed. He did that a couple other times in the game. Theye just went ahead and gave them the first with no need to measure.
TBH there was no way those refs were going to reverse that call and end OSUs season on their field. They wanted no part of the shit show that would have caused

There should be an open competition for the QB job next year and not just given to Speight. I am not sold at all on this stiff.

And I wouldn't disagree on that. Honestly, there should ALWAYS been an open competition, for every position.

Football should be a meritocracy, and the players that give the team the best chance to win should get the snaps. And I have faith that's how Harbaugh runs things.

I'm just saying don't be surprised if Speight is still the starting QB next year.

Yeah I get it but, I think there should just be turnover. Too many upperclassmen not playing up to their ability. Speight(I guess he just sucked), Kalis, Smith and even at times Chesson and Darboh. I assume the younger guys will be developed more than the Hoke players. I do like that he righted the ship on a lot of them though because they looked really soft and terrible in Hoke's final years. Captain No set really whiffed on developing players.

And let me further add, when I talk about which QB gives the team the best chance to win, we should also talk about the intangibles.

For example, let's go back to 2012 and Denard Robinson's senior year. There was a lot of talk pre, during, and post-season that Denard should have been moved to slot/RB and Gardner made the starting QB. My problem with that talk is that it ignores the fact that Robinson had just lead the team to a 11-2, Sugar Bowl winning season. Robinson had the leadership and Robinson had the chemistry. Thus removed any senior QB in that position for any other QB would have been a killer in those intangibles and even though Gardner might have been the better QB, it still would have been a net negative to the team.

Which back to today, Speight has the chemistry with the receivers right now, will lead them to a good (if not great) season, and......as mentioned, he has the underrated ability to forget about a bad play one drive and have a great series next time he has the ball.

Yeah.......one of the areas Hoke really failed was in development of players. So for the upperclassmen, there was only so much Harbaugh could do to make up for lost time. Which don't get me wrong, he has done a phenomenal job with that, but it shows when they play a team that has had better development.

And again, don't forget, as to Speight, this is his first year as starter and since he redshirted, has plenty of time to improve. One shouldn't be judged on just what is their worst day (and that goes for more than football), look at the whole body of work. And with Speight, there is a lot to be hopeful with.

I'm kinda more hopeful that Peters is the bomb.

Agreed. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "[the refs] needed to get out of Columbus alive." Which only became more odd considering what actually happened later today on campus.

Honestly, even though we are going to lose many key players, I think we'll still have a good team again next year. Our young receivers are going to have to step up to replace Darboh, Chessen and Butt. With any luck, all the garbage of this game may make Peppers decide to come back for one more year.

There are a few seniors (or likely leaving players) I'm worried about replacing.

1. Ryan Glasgow - Remember our defense after he went down last year?
2. Jourdan Lewis
3. Jabrill Peppers
4. Amara Darboh
5. Jake Butt
6. Taco Charlton
7. Maurice Hurst
8. Jehu Chesson
9. Chris Wormley

Lucky for us, we've got young talent at WR and TE that can replace some of this... oh yeah, and the #1 recruit in last year's class!!!!!!!
