With everything that has come out recently, I believe Hurts will be our starter. He may not start against USC, but he'll earn the job in that game.

He has made it really hard for Saban not to start him. The kid lives and breathes football, he is very mature for his age, and already one of the top weightlifters. According to those who get to watch the scrimmages, he is far and away the most talented of the three, and the offense runs much more fluidly with him in.

Based on what I heard about the scrimmage this weekend and if that stays consistent outside the scrimmages, then it's going to be Hurts. But I wouldn't count Bateman.

Outside Barnett having something click in his head and just being flawless in his decision making for the next 2 weeks, I think he's out of the competition.

But I think Barnett should serve as a bit of a warning as well. This time last year people were talking about how great it would be if Barnett started as a true freshman, how he looked the part so well and such. Everyone loves the backup because none of them are going to be prefect.

Seems like Bateman has the better decision making skills right now and that goes a long way with Saban. So I'm not counting him out and I'm going to assume he'll be starting until I hear otherwise.

I think we all want to see someone that's NOT a senior start, and outside of that, just win baby.

On a more serious note, I loved what Blake brought to us when he committed, but man I keep hearing great things about Hurts, and it just leads me to think that if Saban really wants to shock Southern Cal, bring out a dual threat QB, which we haven't had since Sims and before that was maybe Watts or Zow? Allow him to mesh well with Bo and Calvin, and let's win another N.C. with a bunch of underclassmen.

I wonder how many QB's transfer once the Starting and Backup are announced.

Watts, Zow was a pocket passer. And I'm not sure I would consider Watts a dual threat. You put Watts and Zow together and then you might have a poor mans Dak.

The talent differences at QB from back then and now are night and day.

School started already, so transfers won't happen until after the season is over now.

Yeah - I remember Zow with some scrambles, and Watts definitely could 'run' the ball, in fact he was about as good as Coker this year running the ball (or at least from what I remember). Point is, we haven't had a true dual threat, so it would be a nice change of pace to be able to add that dynamic to the offense.

And I think Bateman is gone, and Cromwell also, after this year.
