Overrated Actors/Actresses

Anyone brought up Harrison Ford yet.

His acting is ok I guess but he just happens to be in 3 of the best movies/series of all time.

He was also in the movie Witness which is a real hidden gem in my mind. Great chick flick and great story in general. Kelly McGinnis as the hot Amish girl is really scrumptious.

Jerry Maguire is not a movie that ages well. I saw it for the first time last year and thought it was bland and hokey. Mission Impossible was great even two, until Hollywood said, lets run this shit into the ground and give Fast and the Furious ideas on how to make unnecessary sequels.

Yeah on Jerry Macquire. I lost interest with the second MI but Cruise has been solid for a while now. Someone mentioned Jack Reacher which is a real underrated action flick.

I feel Pitt may be underrated actually. He is very good at different character styles and owns the roles. Many of the other actors mentioned seemingly have one character that they use in every single movie. Like De Niro for example. He's the same in every movie.

I think he's appreciated now as a decent actor especially after the 12 Monkeys. He was great in that.

I will go with Tom Cruise, because he is fucking horrible in the fact that he plays the same smarmy idiot in every movie. The fact that he as been nominated for 3 Oscars is pathetic.
He has acted really good in ONE role (Born on the Fourth of July), was decent in a handful of others (for example: Jerry Macguire, Valkyre, Magnolia), and has sucked the life out of most other roles (shit like Jack Reacher, any Mission Impossible piece of shit, War of the Worlds, Knight and Day, and, yes, even Top Gun).
Even then he would get a pass except for his trend of the last 12 years or so of trying to convince me that this grinning midget is some sort of action star.
On the plus side he has been in some other good movies (besides the ones already positively mentioned), but I always find myself thinking of the movies according to what I refer to as the "Keanu Reeves affect" in which I say "Gee, that movie was good despite the fact that it had Keanu Reeves (or in this case Tom Cruise) in it!" Minority Report, A Few Good Men, The Firm, Edge of Tomorrow, etc. are good examples of movies that were good but would have been better with another (ie: good) actor in Tom's place!

Cruise is still revered by some as a good actor, and is therefore (IMO overrated).

He is a car guy who does do all his own stunts and put the car on two wheels on Top Gear, while setting fastest lap. He gets a pass for all his mind numbing action flicks for that.

I'd say worst who never seemed to have trouble getting work is Jason Lee. I've always thought Jennifer Aniston was pretty terrible as far as actresses go.

I think they're all overrated. They all kind of do the same thing each movie with the exception of everyone once in a while one of them steps up and owns a role. It would be easier to name performances that stood out than it would jackass actors/actresses that don't suck.

There's a HUGE difference between an actor who sucks and an actor that doesn't have a lot of range.

And some actors DO just mail in performances for the money. Doesn't change what they CAN do, if they're given a good script and a good director.

The best example of this the last 15 years is Bruce Willis. He's in every low budget action movie out there, playing essentially the same guy, but it doesn't change what he did in the past with some of his roles.

Guys like Keanu or Arnold have ZERO range, but they CAN do really really well if they're given something that's written specifically for them.

Stallone fits this too.

He can be excellent is stuff that is a vehicle FOR him.



Some of the comments on women actors are puzzling too. Just because you don't want to fuck her, doesn't make Julia Roberts a bad actress.

Denise Richards can't hold Roberts thong, but most of us would fuck her.

If I had to put someone on an over-rated list, it would probably be Johnny Depp. He's chewing up scenery and just doing improvisational riffs on his 'persona' and getting paid A list money for it.

He's done some good stuff in the past, and certainly isn't 'mailing it in' like Willis lately, but tries way too hard to be 'actory.' Yeah, I made that word up.

And he probably makes lots of people's favorite actor lists.
