I thought DeNiro was very funny, as well as scary, in The King Of Comedy.
Hilarious in Midnight Run, and also excellent when he played straight man to Grodin.
It wasn't a very good movie and Penn sucked in it, but DeNiro had some great comic scenes in We're No Angels, too.
I can't think of similar good comic work by Pacino, but I haven't seen as many of his movies...

I think the diversity is what separates them in favor of De Niro..., he's run the gamut from mobster, drama, comedy...but both are very good.

Another guy that had played a wide range of characters, and I never really appreciated his work until late was Robin Williams...RIP.

This is a tough one, but I have to say DeNiro. With performances as varied as what was seen in Awakenings, Godfather II and Raging Bull, I think DeNiro has shown greater acting range.

Williams and DeNiro were great together in Awakenings...

I know a lot of people here crap on that movie, but I thought Williams was incredible in Good Will Hunting.

I like them both. DeNiro has played more diverse roles.. Personally, Deniro in Godfather II as the Young Vito Corleone was probably the best acting ever. Seeing him today, one would never know he was Vito. I've watched that movie at least 30 times and I never get bored with it......I have to admit, I do fast forward through the Las Vegas scenes.

I know De Niro and Pacino are forever linked via Godfather, however I actually think a closer competition would be De Niro vs Nicholson. Both well ahead of Pacino IMO.

Don't like Godfather or (especially) Scarface (which I found awful), but I have come to appreciate Pacino in Heat, Donnie Brasco, and especially Insomnia. De Niro I largely cannot stand.

Part 2 was good, but not a fan of the original. Also, don't like Apocalypse Now, nor No Country For Old Men- movies everyone loves.

Both have been terrific in their good roles but Pacino has been laughably terrible in a few. Bad De Niro is when he just half-asses it. Bad Pacino is unwatchable.

I kinda think Apocalypse Now is good but overrated. Like the end with Brando.. What was that about anyways??

HBO has the Godfather epic which has both films melded together into one film in chronological order. Which is good for me since I think DeNiro's performance as the young Corleone is one of the best things about GodFather II. Still think Godfather I is one of the best of all time. I also thought No Country for Old Men was very good.

Everyone can have different tastes. I guess.

In your world Analyze This is better than The Godfather, Jack and Jill (the Adam Sandler movie?) Was as good as Casino, American Hustle was equal to Raging Bull, Insomnia was better than Goodfellas, and just about everything was better than Scarface? Do I have that all correct?

What was the best movie of all time then? Let me guess... Hanna Montana the movie? Maybe the Square Bob Sponge Head movie was more your style?

Nope. I've given seven movies 5/5:

The Dark Knight
The Departed
Training Day
Spider-Man 2
Batman Begins
Gran Torino
End of Watch

All beloved movies. Scarface was horrible overacting.
