2 playoff wins in 20 years and the last two posts show why the Cowboys are almost as relevant as they were when they played in 8 of the first 27 Super Bowls. It's not the number of cowboy fans nationwide, not after 20 years of next to nothing and it's not the media. It's NFL football fans in general and that's always been the best part of being a longtime Cowboy fan for me. Eight Super Bowls, 20 consecutive winning seasons seems like a lifetime away to cowboy fans but not necessary NFL football fans.

I will honorably offer my shoulder for them to cry on and do my best to help the difficult survival transition they face becoming Houston fans
if it didn't happen after Dave Campo and three consecutive 5-11 seasons then I don't think Dallas fans have anything to worry about with regards to becoming Houston Fans.

The issue is why they are or were relevant. The Cowboys were relevant eons ago because of their results on the playing field.
These Cowboys gain notoriety due to their results in the courtrooms, the league suspension office, and for having Jerrah as the team leader.

really...then you should have stats that back this claim. Dallas leads the league for off field courtroom appearances and suspensions is news to me....and you say darn near yearly. huh,

Now jerry is an attention seeking, strut in your face kinda guy...like you on the cowboy board the one year seattle won it all. That was a bad season for Dallas fans and there you were...attention seeking and strutting all over the place. All those team boards and there you sat for a few weeks at of all places, the Dallas Cowboy forum. Funny!

lol, you sure thought they were relevant in 2014 when they fell behind by 10 in the most unwinnable stadium in pro football for visiting teams against the Legion. It was funny you running over to the Dallas board to tell us how well the boys played and how you looked forward to a playoff rematch. I don't know Uhsplit, maybe you haven't a clue and just serve as an example of why Dallas remains NFL relevant in today's game.

Lead the league in suspensions? Who the hell said that?
That is why Dallas is relevant now...because of all of the suspensions that have recently piled up. Don't you see that?
If not, it's ok.

Yep and only getting worse. It's amazing how some of these guys just don't get the right support group behind them with finances and other daily stuff that might or will happen as an NFL player.

IT's true...I can't imagine what live woulda been like for me if at 23/24 years of age I had millions and a posse telling me how great I am.

that's bull shit. They have no more off the field problems than the average NFL team. last year was a lost year no doubt because of injuries. the year before they were likely one confusing NFL rule from playing to see who goes to the SB against a team they already beat. No idea how this year shakes out, but they are likely in the playoff mix and that and every other team's fans talking about them is what keeps them relevant

I would say there are many reasons they are relevant...

1) Large market--Not only do they play in a major city but they play in probably the state most obsessed with football in the country. When you throw in the fact that Houston hasn't always had a team that means the entire state and region for a long time was devoted to the Cowboys. Then you throw in because they were winning when the NFL was seeing some of its best growth that meant great national attention to spread Cowboy Nation or whatever you guys call yourselves.

2) Personality--The Cowboys have always been a team with a lot of personality. They have players that have been pretty much of celebrity status and an owner that is probably more out in the public than almost all other figures in the NFL.

3) Fanbase size--Media folks know that in order to get the clicks or eyes on the screen you need to reach the largest audience. No disrespect to Bills fans but there just are not as many out there as there are Cowboys fans. Heck I would say the Cowboys have the largest fanbase in the country. So obviously you talk about the Cowboys and even when they are a terrible team people still tune in.

4) Winning Tradition--Even though this has been one of the worst stretches in the franchises history they still have done decent. I mean not like the early 90's good but still there are a lot of teams in the league that would kill for the success the Cowboys have had. They have still made the playoffs 4 of the last 10 years. While not great like I said I bet the Browns, Bills, Raiders, Dolphins, and so many other teams in this league would love to have had that kind of success. Because of that they haven't really lost fans. We have seen other teams that have been down right terrible for a while begin to lose the fanbase. I look at teams like the Jaguars and Raiders where they are having to close off entire sections in their stadiums because they can't hardly give away tickets these days.

Well and see this is the other part of it. Not many fans that sit in the middle of love or hate towards the Cowboys. So plenty love to hear the media talk about the Cowboys in the hopes they say something terrible about them. So win/win for the media whether you are a fan or not of the Cowboys.

The cowboys were a 4-12 team last year and still had the three highest rated games. Hate them all you want they are the most popular team. :heh:

Here's a look at the three highest-rated regular season games of the 2015 season.

1. Panthers at Cowboys (Thanksgiving Day) -- 32.5M (CBS)
2. Seahawks at Cowboys (Nov. 1, 2015) -- 29.4M (Fox)
3. Cowboys at Packers (Dec. 13, 2015) -- 28.9M (Fox)

Key reason Cowboys are relevant is everyone seems to care about them as the ratings and other posts show. Relevant doesn't mean everyone loves them. As CD pointed out many just like to laugh at them during the tough times and root against during better times. But love 'em or hate 'em they are still aware of what is going on. That is why they are indeed relevant and why the original post about suspensions and Jerry and something else was BS or at best disingenuous because it only covered a small part of the reason
