Dominated the game without much lining up on the other side, getting double and triple-teamed.

I voted yes. But I'm on the fence and probably would have voted no if he was either a worse/more self person, or played for a different team. Top 5 I agree with much more. First ballot HoF I agree with 100%. But top 3?

He's something like 43rd all time in receptions, and somewhere in the 20's for yardage. I think he's first all time for yards per game, but that's kind of expected when he retires in his prime.

#1 All time is obviously Rice. Arguments can be made that he's the single best player regardless of position.
#2-4 For me belong to Moss, Fitzgerald, and Johnson in some order.
Then there's still guys like Owens, Harrison, Holt, Largent, Brown, Carter, etc. I'm sure I'm missing some guys.
plus guys like AJ Green, Jones, Brown, and Beckham are already making their mark.

Megatron may be top 3 most talented, or top 3 most dominant. Maybe even top 3 best in their prime. But as I think about it more even as a Lions Homer who loves his and Barry's "act like you've been there" attitude I can't put him top 3.

CJ is a HOFer but not top 3 of all time

Off the top of my head

Jerry Rice
James Lofton
Don Hutson
Art Monk
Steve Largent

CJ with more longevity than what he has might have gotten in the discussion for top 3.

Art Monk? C'mon man. I could see Largent, or even Hutson. I would have been fine with Larry Fitzgerald or Randy Moss. I could even accept people ranking Terrell Owens or Chris Carter higher. But Art Monk was a career compiler and nothing more.

I think if he could had played a few more years, he definitely would be top 3 but I am on the fence right. His ability went beyond stats so stats are only a part of the decision IMO. I would say he is top 5 but not quite top 3.

My top 3 are Rice, Largent, Carter, I don't know if CJ is even in my top 5, and he is far from a lock for the HOF.

I wouldn't even put Johnson ahead of T.O. Hell Owens might even be Top 3 because he has better numbers than a lot of supposed great names.

No Randy Moss? :L

I thought about him and C Carter. Then left them off my list. Moss was great in his early career, then had a couple of down years in Minnesota. Before going to Oakland and falling in a black hole. After being traded to NE he was back to the receiver he was early in Minnesota.

Now let me go check his stats and see how many idiots I will get for my memory.

Ok 1 bad year in Minnesota and surprise to me he had a 1000 yard year in Oakland.

Yes after looking I would put Moss ahead of CJ.

I'm a homer but I think Moss is the GOAT, he changed how teams drafted, teams set up entire game plans to try and stop him with all due respect to Jerry Rice he didn't scare teams like the Freak did.

Scouts were asking corners if they thought they could cover Jerry Rice at the combines. I don't know how long you watched Rice, but before that shitbag Sapp wrecked his knee he was as good of a deep threat as anybody and once he got a step on someone they didn't get it back.

Said teammate Ronnie Lott, the 49ers' Pro Bowl safety from USC: "Fifi has deceptive speed. He may be 4.6 on Tuesday and Wednesday, but he's 4.2 on Sundays."

Moss retired at 33. Rice put up 8000+ yards after his 33rd birthday. Comparing Moss to Rice is ridiculous. Comparng Rice to anybody is ridiculous. He's clearly head and shoulders above the rest.

I am surprised at the love for Steve Largent. Of course, I love Largent, but I didn't think that love would transfer outside of Seattle, being so "out of the typical mold" for a great receiver.

Rice, Moss, Owens, then Fitzgerald (he's awesome).
CJ is/was great too. Top 10 for sure.
Steve Smith, Largent, Harrison, Bruce, Carter. Not doubt All-Studs.

Fun argument.
