Howie....don't forget....a lot of fans were excited over the addition (and early results) of Simons and Greene. There was great expectations for the 2015 club. Many fans predicted an easy AL Central win over a weak division.
And there is no reason why Greene still can't be a useful pitcher. He was injured... Nothing is stopping him from being a valuable pitcher this year. Last year matters nothing.

Um.. No...

The Tigers have 9 new players on the 25 man roster. They have 3 new relievers to form a completely rebuilt bullpen. They have way more pitching depth. Health is going to dictate what happens.. clearly.. but to say its basically zimmerman for price and upton for cespedes is not true in the slightest. The bullpen was the biggest issue last year.. and it is completely rebuilt.

blah, blah, blah. ....and the Royals won't win anything. Same old, same old.

"The bullpen is completely rebuilt" - this negates my remark that it is still a question mark?

every bullpen is a question mark right now.. the season hasn't started.. none of them are guaranteed to be good.

On good days, he's disabled. On bad days, he's a full blown vegetable.
wouldn't this mean I wouldn't be able to post at all... being that a person in a vegetative state doesn't move?

Bullpen looks better, just with Nathan being gone. But it is still a question mark.

Nathan pitched one inning last year, so I don't even count him. So basically the bullpens are (using the RPs with the most innings in 2015):

2015
Hardy
A. Wilson
Soria
Rondon
Alburquerque
Feliz (garbage)
Gorzelanny (puke)
Krol (atrocious)

2016
F. Rodriguez
J. Wilson
Lowe
Hardy
A. Wilson
Rondon
Verhagen
Ryan/Farmer/M. Robertson

2016 has to be better, only because 2015 was such unbelievable crap.

If Nathan was in a Tigers uniform last year.. the bullpen would have been better for it. Its called depth. Without Nathan they were forced to rotate through a bunch of inexperienced pitchers and have Bruce Rondon close. Plus... If Nathan was healthy he could have been traded at the deadline like Soria and add talent. In no way did the Tigers benefit from Nathan being injured.

(1) I liked the Greene signing, and also liked the Gorzelanny signing (BOY, was I wrong!)

(2) I was one who warned that Simon had little history as a starter, and sucked in the second half for the Reds in 2014. I had no expectation of him being more than an innings-eater with the occasional good start.

(3) My predictions for 2015 were (you can look 'em up on the 2015 thread): 1st-White Sox, 2nd-Royals, 3rd-Tigers. It was based mainly on the Tigers losing Scherzer and Porcello, and Verlander getting hurt.

Greene was a trade... ( Ray ) which looks like crap right now. But to say its completely out of the realm that he ends up being useful is wrong.

If the Tigers team stays healthy its really just a question of if they are a playoff team or if they are a ws team. The only reason projections are not favorable for them is because of injury concerns... which while valid are not as extreme as people would like to think. I am not going to put a ton of money on Sanchez or Vmart to be all stars.. but its really not that far fetched for either to have great seasons either.

My bad ... I liked the Greene ACQUISITION at the time.
Tigers gave up on Ray way to soon. Greene's upside is no where near Ray's... I understand why it was done.. but it ended up being a complete shit trade... that can only get worse as Ray gets better with time.

The worst part of that trade wasn't just giving up on Ray.. but they gave the Diamondbacks a legit SS prospect too in Leyba.

Howie...my point was looking at the two teams from a spring training few point. I think you are taking the poor results of the 2015 Tigers and comparing them to the ''hope'' of the 2016 team. At this time last year, we did not know that Krol was going to be bad. And for all we know...Rondon may blow up, literally, in April.

Just having F-Rod close all year would be a blessing, because it means considerably different roles for the likes of Alex Wilson, Hardy, Verhagen and even Rondon ... roles in which I think they are better suited to succeed. If Lowe is a decent setup guy and LHP Justin Wilson is the multi-purpose guy he looks to be (actually better versus RH batters in his career), I can't see the bullpen NOT being better than last year's. Of course there are questions as to whether or not they will be GOOD ... but I'd settle for mediocre at this point.
