2015:
ND LOSS
Rice win
Cal win
OSUs LOSS
TCU LOSS
OU LOSS
KSU LOSS
ISU win
KU win
WVU win
TTU win [6]
Baylor LOSS [6]
2015:
The 13th game was the EXACT same as the first few last year: lights out D until they tired and gave out, horrible play calling and offensive execution with no leadership, and special teams that left jaws dropped all over the 40 Acres and the great state of Tejas. And has ANYTHING changed in the off-season? No.
6-6 is generous.

8-4

So, in 2015, I complained that the last game was prosecuted the same as the first few, and that we had no real offensive identity. I fucking see, actually, no change in that YET AGAIN. This past year, we saw no movement at all toward a cohesive offensive identity. We installed the 18-wheeler package, though. Homers seem to think this is a good idea. It's not. What we should have been doing the last two years is MAKING these quarterbacks throw the damned ball over and over to get that part of the offense going, but we didn't. So, where do we stand at the end of two years? At the EXACT same spot as September, 2014: WE CAN'T THROW THE BALL. This has been a complete failure by Charlie Strong.

Applewhite had Derp and our shitty 2013 team one half of one game away from winning the conference. Why? Because he pushed the team to learn and be better than they were, and he took appropriate chances at the right times. Charlie Strong has done NONE of that.

As far as the defense, we're at the same place again: Players fighting their ass off to hold on for dear life and a victory. The secondary looked really weak at the beginning, but did come together toward the end a bit. I'm going to forgive this last game, where the defensive play calling looked like a dunce was calling it.

The good news? Just by sheer experience, the young players are going to be 20-30% better next year. There'll be half as many outright stupid mistakes in the secondary; the OLine will be twice as good... it has to be just from experience. Also, there is NO WAY ON EARTH that we can be as unlucky as we were this year... so it can only get better on that front.

I predict an 8-4 season just because we'll win those close games vs. weaker opponents. I don't know if that's enough to keep Strong's job.

If they land Cumbie, I think he fixes the QB problem fast. He'll have 5 QB's on campus in the spring to work with, surely he can get 1 or 2 of them up to par with the big 12. Running game will be really good with Warren and Foreman. Back 7 of the D should be lights out, my concern is lack of pass rush and no depth at DT. 8-4 sounds about right.

Hell, I'll take 8-4 right now. The fact that we have no qb to date, bothers the hell out of me. NOT Charlie Strong's fault, but it will be with time if he doesn't recruit one. I said it back in the summer. The fact that Heard didn't come out of the spring as the #1 qb scared the hell out of me. Swoops was and still is HORRIBLE! I think Heard will continue to develop, but clearly we have to find a good qb because he can't throw worth a crap. Maybe one of the two new guys, I don't know. What I do know is that even if we get Sonny Combie, it won't matter if we have no talent at qb. Once again, I'll say it. Combie or anybody else can't coach a jackass to win the Kentucky Derby! You have to have talent!

We have to focus on February. We have to continue to get some talent. I have full confidence in Strong's ability to develop it. I still think he will clean house with coaches. Texas should go after the best in the business. It's not like we can't afford it. That's all we can do. Strong finishes 8-4 next year, I can assure you he will keep his job. 8-4 would be a great step forward after this year.

Strong's big mistake: starting with a weak staff. He brought the staff that worked at Louisville and thought it would work here. Nope.

He comes with an SEC mentality, SEC experience. He admitted he was shocked/surprised/WTF'd that his template does not work in the Big12. It's just a different animal.

If he gets the right people in to run the offense, a Big12 style offense, things will get better. He can adjust on defense, using faster more adaptable players who can run with Big12 offenses.

Jefe, a head coach isn't just a corporate consultant.
I mean, what would it mean if s head coach was hired but didn't bring his staff? That we view head coaches as some kind of baseball manager, or more to the point, like the bobs in Offuce Space?

I mean, really, what would it mean to hire s head coach and not staff? That head coaches are some kind of yogis or something? Makes little sense.

Phantom, the talent argument only goes so far, and, to be truthful, not that far. There is no way Texas has such little talent, that we had to luck into a 5-7 record at the end of the season.

And whatever one thinks of Swoopes or Heard, it is a cold fact that Strong did not instruct his staff to take chances and develop the passing game. Instead, he played it safe, didn't develop at all, and still lost anyway. That is not leadership. So, we now sit in the same place we were at the beginning of his tenure: no real qb, no offensive identity, and no clear plan going forward.

Texas is filled with competent QB's.
The problem isn't getting a good QB.
They are literally all over the place.

Maybe it's both. I have to ask. Don't you think it's odd that Alabama who has gotten a ton of 5 star players over the last 6 or 7 years have been one of the top teams in the country for a while now? Clemson, a few years ago kicked ass in recruiting, and now look at them. We have basically no 5 star players and stink up the place. Remember Mack Brown's 2002 class(the only truly great class he had btw) He got one 10 star(VY) and four 5 star players. It produced a national championship in 2005. I understand there's more to it, but it really helps to have superstars.

On the other side, USC has recruited very well and hasn't done much with it. Again, maybe the coaches have been horrible, I honestly don't know for sure, but still think they don't have much to work with. What I do know is that your truly talented players don't need to be coached too much when it comes to ability. They either have it or not. Trust me, no one coached VY. We are in a situation where you have to coaches coaching around some one inability to be able to do something. That's really bad. Heard and Swoops couldn't hit the side of a barn from 10 feet with a football. Therefore, we run. Defenses know that. When you are one dimensional, you're done! Even an average defenses can shut down a one dimensional offense, and god help you if you play a good defense.

I still think Strong will get us there if he can recruit.

This is a coaching issue, not a lack of talent issue. The talent is there, as we saw when this team bitch slapped the current #4 team in the country (and that game wasn't close). Strong continually said he would like to see the team who whipped OU show up every week. Well, NO FUCKING SHIT! That's your job, guy.

I've said this so many times: a great head coach surrounds himself with great assistant coaches. This is where Strong failed miserably. Jefe hit the nail on the head. This isn't Mack's fault, this isn't a lack of talent issue, this isn't a "being young issue". This is a COACHING ISSUE. For fuck's sake, you now have a player's parent tweeting out how Bedford should have been fired after the Baylor game. Speaking of Bedford, will some of you people please stop giving him a pass. His defense this year went down as the worst in UT history. Yes, the terrible offense going 3 & out doesn't help, but even when the offense did its, his schemes and game plans still sucked on an epic level (refer to Cal, TTECH. Didn't TTECH roll almost 700 yds of offense?). Rice rolled almost 500 yds, running for 240 yds and even KU had their best offensive outing vs. Bedford's defense and KU has one of the worst scoring and total offenses in the country. Baylor ran the fucking single wing in the 2nd half and his dumbass couldn't stop it. THE SINGLE WING!!!! Bedford has no business returning as DC. If he does, this team loses 4-6 games next year, GUARANTEED.

Then you have Norvell. I know he was promoted to OC b/c of Watson, but this goes back to Strong failing big time on his coaching staff. Watson was fired everywhere he's been an OC at; he got lucky at L'ville b/c of Bridgewater. So you replace a shitty OC whose been fired everywhere with an even shittier OC in Norvell whose been fired everywhere he's been an OC at (Nebraska, UCLA, OU).

Strong without a doubt, must fire several coaches. Norvell has no business being an OC, Bedford has no business being a DC. Wickline, Haley and the S&C must also go. Once again, this is a coaching issue and this coaching staff is mediocre at best. Strong can save this program, BUT HE MUST REVAMP THIS COACHING STAFF!!

Tyson Helton or Eric Morris get my vote. I don't think either are even being considered though.

I'm totally ok with this. We all saw how Bryan Harsin worked out. These guys coming from these little schools who don't face top talent every week scare the hell out of me.

Cumbie is coming from TCU, not from some mid major school. This one hurt, but I don't want an OC who wouldn't be able to handle the pressure and expectations that are demanded at Texas. At TCU, there is no pressure and zero expectations so he took the easy way out. Fuck his Techtard ass....
